Finally, I manage to scrape up some time to comment on not one,
not two, but _three_ parts of SJ! I'm really behind, yes, I know.
First, to get the criticisms out of the way. Somewhat minor thing
is--what happened to Kaji? I haven't seen him at all, I think...but that's
all right. My main concern is that of _time_. Well, not really time, but
more of the feeling that time was somehow compressed. SJ has covered
episodes 18-24, from beginning to chapter 9. I believe, in the anime, that
spanned a few months. Now, I didn't have too much of a problem with that
in the beginning, but for when Kaworu showed up as a pilot (not his cameo
appearance early on) to Kaworu's death, things seemed to go by too
quickly. Relationships formed, changed, improved, etc. in these last few
chapters a little too fast. The two in particular that I wasn't too sure
about was Asuka and Touji starting to like each other, and Shinji's and
Kaworu's friendship. The first one is more easily worked in; given time, I
can imagine it happening (though it would definitely take time). As for
Shinji and Kaworu, however--the reason that Kaworu managed to become so
close to Shinji in the anime was because Shinji had no one else. Asuka was
in her coma, Rei was...different, Touji and the rest of the classmates
moved away for safety's sake, and he couldn't trust any of the
adults--even Misato. In this repainted EVA universe, Shinji still has his
friends and still trusts Misato, and even seems to have a more normal
relationship with his father. Heck, he's even in love. Kaworu might have
become a friend, still, but definitely not Shinji's best friend, as you
say. *wheeze* Gosh, that was a lot, eh?
So, what did I like? Aside from some grammar and spelling
nitpicks, I liked the rest, definitely. I like the way that you've
eliminated the extreme tragedies from the anime without losing an overall
cereberal touch that Evangelion always has had. Chapter 10 especially was
a nice part. Good character interaction for the lull in the action.
Chapter 11...wooh. You shouldn't have done that spoiler bit, man; I
wouldn't have expected anyone to die, other than maybe some UN goons. As
it was, though, when Tomo came up to talk about a death happening, I
immediately knew it had to be either Nodoka (highly unlikely still) or
Seraphim.... Anyway, I'm waiting for the conclusion. :)
