I became an anime fan through Bubblegum Crisis.

That's fairy recent.  Now...Voltes V...that was mine ^_^  And that started
when? end of the 70's?  Of course I only heard the term "anime" from
Dragonball, which is more than ten years old.  In more recent terms, I
honestly ignored Ranma 1/2 for years, before I finally decided to watch
the local airing.  I guess I got distracted by the local basketball
league.  Anyway, the truth is I always watched the Dragonball episodes
airing but for the life of me, I don't know why I also turned the TV off
when Ranma 1/2 came next.  So...there I was, for years had been a fan of
DB...would get to watch Ranma 1/2 once in a while...but totally ignored
it.  Then I realized why?  I didn't use the stupid betamax.  And for years
the betamax VCR was broke, I only had the heart to watch DB.  Then when we
finally got a VHS recorder, heh...kaboom...I was hooked.

Unfortunately, the stupid local station started airing the OVA's of Ranma
1/2...gee...that got me some ep of Ranma...but that eventually led to its
cancellation.  (Stupid RPN 9)  Anyway, this station is also getting raps
for forcing on our troats Dragonball just when "The Arrival" of Vegeta was
about to play on Dragonball Z.  (Yup, RPN started with DBZ then switched
to Dragonball...call about your major fixer upper)

Anyway, I'm ranting too much.

Hey, this is fun...retelling what series got you hooked on anime. ^_^

My $1.35 I think.

Right now, I love the other channel's "Thunder Jet" series...which I still
don't know it's original Japanese name is.  It's nowhere on the Internet,
nor in Anipike...maybe some of you knows what it is?  It's main character
is a boyish samurai warrior (Rugarai) that gets to lead a whole armada of
ships and eventually defeats everyone and becomes Emperor of "Milky Way"
(Poor English Translation I think?)  He has a huge priest "monk" friend
and a small child that uses a shotgun and grenade launcher (Taski?), he
has two beautiful women, Princess "Simone", a beautiful blonde girl,
demure and quite graceful (eventually gets to be Rugarai's wife but is
"shamefully" killed in the end...and Princess "Ryeila", a Ryoko (Tenchi
Muyo!) look a like, my best description. ^_^

If anyone knows anything about this, please don't hesitate to reply. ^_^

* These names are at best are shameful facsimile of the real japanese
series names...just imagine Lita and/with Makoto of SM. ^_^
