Ranma 1/2 never existing? An interesting concept.
The first time I saw Ranma 1/2 was about 3 years ago. I've seen a
lot of anime before then and was rather fond of it. But only Ranma 1/2
has inspired a passion in me.
I really wonder what kind of impact this series has made towards
anime in America. Every person I have shown the first couple of tapes
to has become an anime fan. Tape one they like it. Tape two it get more
interesting. Tape three they are eager for more. Tape four they start
to form a bond with the series. Tape five they're collecting Ranma
tapes, manga, and merchandise.
As for authors being known for thier work if not for Ranma. Hard
to say. It would depend on how much Ranma sparked that initial
inspirtation. Many authors find the courage to finally share their work
because of the "need " to see the story continue.
What type of impact would no Ranma 1/2 have? Who knows. I really
don't want to know. All I can say is Rumiko Takahashi has given many of
us a gift we can keep for as long as we wish. For that I am eternally
grateful.
Finally let me take this time to thank ALL of the authors who have
shared their vision with me. Your stories give me an escape from the
daily grind at the office and the busy routine of raising a family. For
that I thank you.

"Good, now can we go bury him?" replied Ranma Bear.
