Another neat-o fact about Amazons is that they treat males in the same way 
early cultures treat(ed) their technical elite (blacksmiths) they were
usually hobbled in some way (is there such a thing a gentle maiming?) to
prevent them from running away. I'm guessing Amazons would do this as
well. There might be the occaisional "new blood" which would be kept less
fettered if they had the strenght to put to use.
