Nihao!
As the new list was going up and down like a yo-yo and hotmail wasn't working, I
decided to repost this. I also found some mistakes that I, hopefully, corrected.
I've been working on this idea for a while now. Just to give you fair and advanced
warning I will be pulling on a lot of Norse mythology for this one. I will also be
drawing in quite a few other anime titles as well including Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Due to AD Vision's slowness I have yet to see the last two tapes. I know generally
what's going to happen, but I'm blank as to the specifics. So please be aware of
that if I make a mistake. C&C of any kind is always wanted. If you don't know that
by know you really haven't been paying attention.
Jusenkyo Guide
In the branches of Yggdrasill a golden yellow cock was sleeping. It had been sleeping
since time began. Gaglvior's only purpose in life was to crow when the dawn of Ragnarok,
the twilight of the Gods and Man came.
As morning came to Asgard, his sleep grew fitful and, finally, after all the long,
long eons, Gaglvior awoke. Shaking himself, he let out a mighty crow.
In the main office of the Yggdrasil Center, Kami-sama awoke as well. He had heard
the crowing of Gaglvior. He sighed, for it was with a heavy heart He went to work.
He knew what was coming.
At NERV HQ in Tokyo-3 the Third Child awoke as well, far below him in Terminal Dogma
something was beginning to stir. Ragnarok had begun.

Asgard:
After the last sound from Gaglvior had faded away, He left his office, He needed
to talk to certain people. As He made his way to Yggdrasill, He noted how quiet it
was, the only sound that could be heard was the creaking of the great tree as Yggdrasill
shuttered.
The house up ahead was something to see. It was built in three parts, each part
representing the owners of the house. One part had the look of a sorcerer's tower
from a fantasy panting. The central part resembled a Japanese Shinto shrine, while
the third part looked like something out of Star Trek. The entire effect suggested
that a starship had somehow crashed into modern day Japan and then knocked itself
and the shrine back in time to come to rest against a tower. In front of the house,
its edges resting up against Yggdrasill, lay a small shallow pool.
They stood in front of that pool, awaiting Him as He walked up. He paused slightly
to consider each of them.
Urd, who was the eldest of the Norns, and the one who causes the most problems.
She had a great heart, and had given up much over the course of time. Now if she
would only think before she gave. He smiled slightly as He remembered when she had
taken His horse to fetch a cure for her sister.
While Urd was a troublemaker, Belldandy made peace. Many were the gods and goddesses
who came to her when they were troubled. She smiled when she caught Him looking at
her. It was good to see her smiling again, Keiichi's death in the Second Impact had
hurt her greatly. As if His thoughts had summoned him, Keiichi came out of the house
as well. He had died trying to save some children in the aftermath of the Second
Impact. Such heroism had earned him a place here. Skuld herself used her long forgotten
title as a Valkiyre to bring him to the Heavens. Of course Kami-sama hadn't objected
to that, He had learned a long time ago it was best not to make Belldandy mad.
Next to Belldandy stood the youngest of the Norns, the little fireball named Skuld.
She had grown over time and now the potential that she had as a child had come into
full bloom. Quite simply she was stunning. Already there were some minor fights among
the Gods to see who would win this lovely goddess's heart. The look she gave her
father was sad though. Urd's domain was the past, Belldandy's the present, but Skuld's
was the future and were she could always see it stretching out before her, now it
ended.
"Lord," all three said bowing. Keiichi also bowed, but not nearly as graceful as
the three sisters.
"My daughters," He said with a heavy sigh, "It is time."
"Must it be so Father?" Belldandy asked.
Kami-sama nodded, "Already the stage is set on Midgard, the wolf Fenrir strains
against his bonds and will soon break free. Loki will soon be out of his chains as
well. You know what he will set free when he does."
They nodded grimly, long ago, before even Yggdrasill had come into being, Kami-sama
had bound a being of pure evil in Hel, when Loki got lose, that being would break
his bonds as well. He had as many names as Kami-sama, Satan, King of Hell, Lord of
Terror, Lucifer, but he was best known as the Lord of Chaos.
Urd, Belldandy, and Skuld moved over to the pool in front of the Tree. Long ago
they had switched over to the computer Yggdrasil, it was much faster than the old
method, but for this, only the old way would do.
At the base of the Tree, at the edge of the Well, three chairs sat. Near one stood
a giant spindle, on the second, a ruler, on the third a golden pair of shears. It
was here that for ages the Norns measured out the fate of men and gods. Urd would
spin the thread, Belldandy measure out it's length, and Skuld cut it when the life
reached it's end.
Urd sat down and spun out a gold thread, the life line of mankind. As she looked
at it she stared to talk.
"The past," she said.
First Impact:
The heard of dinosaurs looked up as a bright streak cut across the night sky. It
didn't seem to be attacking them, nor was it something to eat so they ignored it.
As the Earth reeled from impact and most of the life on the planet was killed, Kami-sama
wept. But sometimes you need to start over.
12,000 Years Ago:
A tear slid down her face as she watched the explosions in the sky above her.
"Why? Why did you leave me?" she cried to the uncaring sky. The last survivor of
the Solinoid starship Star Leaf wept as Chaos burned in the sky.
2,000 Years Ago:
Urd and her sisters looked on in horror as the soldiers nailed their Father to the
tree.
"Couldn't He do something?" Skuld asked, holding onto Belldandy with all her strength,
"Why would Father want to go through this?"
Belldandy shook her head, no one in the heavens knew why Kami-sama would do this
to himself.
The Norns wept as He said, "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit."
"Why?" Skuld demanded, "Why did He die for them?"
Her sisters had no answer for her.
Three Days Later:
The Norns had come out to the Tree again, even if their Father was dead, they still
had a job to do. A surprised awaited them this day, however, the pure white line
that was their Fathers was still there. Skuld had cried when she was forced to cut
it. But now the line was whole, and spinning itself once more.
"How?" Urd asked. A voice behind her made them all spin around.
"Because Urd, if an innocent is ever killed in place of those who had sinned, Death
itself would work backwards and would have no more hold on anyone."
Behind the Norns stood their Father. The shouts of joy rang from one end of Asgard
to another.
700 Years Ago:
Skuld looked on in wonder as two alien starships crashed into the mountains of Japan.
She had never seen such beautiful spaceships. And defiantly not one that miyaaa'd
as it flew. She watched as a great warrior fought with a demon and sealed it in a
cave. These people, Yosho and Ryoko, looked like someone she would have to keep tabs
on.
1970:
The Norns looked into the Well with terror as an evil invaded the world. It called
itself KAIN, but they knew what it really was. Somehow, some way, the Lord of Chaos
had managed to slip his bonds a bit. As the events unfolded two descendants from
the warrior Yosho defeated KAIN and bound the Lord of Chaos again.
12 Years Later:
Skuld cried as she cut the life line of Achika. She ran to her Father for comfort.
Kami-sama held the trembling girl close. He started to explain to her that Lady
Achika wasn't gone. If Skuld looked closely, she would still find her guarding her
son, Tenchi.
"Are you sure?" Skuld asked.
Kami-sama smiled at her, "Yes Skuld. Now dry your eyes. There's something I want
you to try. I just got it from Midgard."
"What is it?" Skuld wanted to know.
"It's called ice-cream," He said.
1987:
"That idiot!" Urd raged.
"What's wrong Urd?" Belldandy asked from her terminal at Yggdrasil.
"That idiot Genma just got his son engaged again!" she said.
Belldandy frowned, "How many does Ranma have now anyway?"
Skuld ran by chasing a bug with her mallet, "Gotcha!" she cried as she clobbered
the bug.
"What are you talking about Onechan?" she asked.
"We were wondering how many fiances' Ranma will have," Belldandy replied.
Skuld accessed the Yggdrasil records. "Um, according to this, about 50 all together.
Including a few who really can't be counted as a fiance," she said. "Who is her
engaged to this time?"
"An okonomiyaki cook named Ukyo," Urd said.
Skuld looked her up, "Yggdrasil says that she'll be his best friend, but not the
one he'll chose."
"Who will her chose?" Urd wanted to know.
"Um Yggdrasil doesn't say, it only has something about an uncute tomboy," Skuld
said puzzled.
In His office, Kami-sama laughed.
1997:
Skuld sat monitoring the events taking place on Midgard. She shook her head. Aliens
landing and playing tag for the planet. Tenchi had managed to unseal that demon from
the cave that Yosho had sealed her in. He was as bad as Ranma she decided. Every
female in that house except for Kiyone was in love with him.
Ranma was having troubles of his own. What possessed his father to take him to Jusenkyo
of all places? There was just so much going on, including someone building an android
with a cat's brain. The phone rang next to her sister. Belldandy smiled with joy
as she picked it up. For some reason her older sister hadn't been too happy after
that trip to Midgard.
"Hello, you have reached the Goddess Relief Office. I'll be right there for a personal
consultation," she said. Then Belldandy walked to a mirror and was gone.
A few minutes latter, a wish made its way to Yggdrasil. Skuld looked at it. "She
has to WHAT!" echoed a few minutes later from the Tree to the rainbow bridge.
A few weeks later, Skuld left to join her other sisters on Midgard.
Asgard:
Urd passed the golden line to Belldandy who measured it. She cried as she remembered
some of the joyful and sorrowful memories of the past. As Belldandy looked into the
well, she started to remember what had just happened.
"The present," she said.
Second Impact:
No one noted the small group trudging to the South Pole. People were always going
to the bottom of the world. One more group of scientist wouldn't make all that much
of a difference.
A few days later, after the second Angel Adam had released his energy, people took
note of the South Pole again. The world would never be the same.
Belldandy cried as she held the body of her husband, her lover to her. Keiichi had
died trying to save some of the neighborhood children. Kami-sama had allowed them
to get married, but told them that no children would come of it. It didn't really
matter, they had each other and the children of other couples adored them.
"Keiichi!" she wailed. Suddenly Skuld was there.
"Give him to me Onechan," she said.
Belldandy looked at her younger sister.
"Give him to me Belldandy," she repeated, "He has earned a place at our Father's
table."
15 Years Later:
Ikari Gendou smiled as on the screen in Central Dogma, Evangelion Unit-01 tore Unit-03
apart. On the speakers his son, Shinji, begged his father to stop. He pleaded with
him to stop.
"No!" Shinji screamed as EVA-01 crushed the entry plug in its giant hand.
Terminal Dogma, Now:
The third Rei looked about the huge chamber. Above her, far above her, the battle
for NERV raged on. Already Auska had been killed by Seels EVA units. It was time.
Asgard:
Skuld picked up the golden shears. Around her, the groaning of Yggdrasill could
be heard. She could also hear the howl of the wolf Fenrir, the cries of the doomed
souls on the death ship, and above all, the mad laughter of the Lord of Chaos.
"The Future," she cried, "There is no more future."
"Cut the line my child," Kami-sama said, "It is time."
"But," Skuld started. In a flash she remembered times of long ago, and not so long
ago. People whom she liked and admired, and yes, loved. Here at the Well of Urd,
beneath the World Tree Yggdrasill, Skuld, goddess of a time which had none, finally
found the answer to why her Father died.
"Cut the line my daughter," He repeated.
"Yes Father," she said. Skuld closed the shears and the life line of man snapped.
All that was, all that happened, all that would have been, ended.
"It has ended," Skuld said weeping. Indeed, they all were.
Kami-sama smiled, "And begun again. Look my children."
The line was spinning itself whole.
"As I said, if an innocent was killed in place of someone who sinned, Death will
have no grasp," He said, "I have already paid the price."
Urd looked puzzled, "But why go through this? Why bring Ragnarok?"
"Sometimes my daughter, you have to start again."
With that, He left.
Midgard, Year, 2032:
Priss road along the Bay Shore highway, Sylia had said that they were going to try
the new hardsuits out tonight. The angry young woman was hopping to kick some boomer
ass.
23 Century:
Captain Robert April looked at his first officer and nodded, taking back the gift
he was about to give away.
"This is for you George," he said softly.
Commander George Kirk looked proud as April called over the subspace channel, "Attention
Roseberg. This is the United Federation of Planets Starship Enterprise, prepare for
a transfer of all personal. We've come to take you home."
Asgard:
The future stretches out before them," He said.
"Do you think they'll ever find out about what happened Father?" the young girl
asked.
"They may my child, they may."
Midgard, Year 1998:
The End.
Authors Notes:
Yes I know it got a bit preachy there at the end, sorry I didn't plan for it, it
just happened that way. I also apologize for the Star Trek scene at the end, that,
BTW is a paraphrase of Final Frontier by Diane Carey, a very good book about the
early days if you are interested.
Most of the Norse mythology was gotten out of the books The Well and the Tree, Gods
of the Northmen, Norse Myths, and Goddesses of the World, all of which are, for some
reason, available at the main library at the University of Nevada, Reno. oh, BTW,
I've also changed my email address. It's now jusenkyoguide@mailcity.com Well, C&C
is always wanted.
Ja,
