Because Sailor Moon has the historical (and planetary) scope to 
accomodate that sort of thing.  Because everyone is familiar
with it.  Because it has huge blank spaces in its history that can 
accomodate untold amounts of other material with only moderate 
rearrangement.  Because it is representative of an entire anime
genre, and the only representative of said genre that really made
it over here.  Because it already freely intermixes fantasy and 
science fiction concepts.  Because Wedding Peach would be worse.
