The author does try to give some reasons why the characters are acting the
way they are. Now, not all of the explanations are entirely satisfactory
to me, but the author didn't just have people act weird for no reason.
Not to mention the incongruity with the series itself. To be blunt,
there *is* no "After the Angels" involved where Evangelion is
concerned. Third Impact took care of that. Whether you go by the
original ending, or the End of Evangelion ending, it basically
amounts to the end of humanity as we know it.
Maybe. Given the amount of surreality, we could just about as well assume
the characters all went temporarily insane. Or possibly the animators :)
But yeah, this is the biggest problem.
