Well, perhaps not. At least the Shadowcat of "Hearts of Ice" wouldn't have. Immortal or not, it's a bit too impatient to play with its food for 10 years. In HoI, when it was given the opportunity to snag Ranma with Yuki-onna's help, it jumped at the chance. In the fight between the Shadowcat and Masakazu, SC mentioned its frustration that Ranma had *ever* escaped the Nekoken, since the condition was supposed to be a permanent thing from the training on. The only reason Ranma escaped the Nekoken's influence, once SC had him again, was because of a little demonic decapitation, courtesy Akane. And once SC came back to life, it's top priority was to get Ranma back under its influence. Oh, and to permanently get rid of Akane, so she couldn't interferre again.

But, actually, I don't really mind Gary's interpretation of the Shadowcat. When he first told me of his idea, I got the impression from the start that it would be kind of an alternate-universe take on my own Shadowkitty. In fact, I like "Cat's Prey" a lot, though I will admit that, in my opinion, some of Gary's other dark stories have been stronger in general, such as "Lost" or "Pools of Horror." But still, I though it was good.

Anyway, I can't really complain about the Shadowcat being OOC. After all, who am I to talk, after what I've done to the Ranma cast? If Takahashi and Viz are willing to turn a blind eye towards us fanfic authors, who virtually trample copyright laws left and right, I figure I can let Gary can do whatever he wants with the Shadowcat. ^_^

Ja ne,

Krista
