just woke up with this concept, the funny thing is was watching Ranma last
night

The scene starts out with Shinji dissolved in the LCL,
they recover the spirit but not the body,
they use one of Rei's "spares" to the house his soul.

Gendo revises his plans accordingly.

this could be played for laughs, or as a really dark fic.
someone more familiar with Eva than i would be better at doing this,
 i've only seen the English releases and read a synopsis of the End that
 may not be entirely accurate.
for that matter, someone may have already done this as it seems fairly
simple and straightforward.
