6,
the two grow up together and fall madly in love and either get
married,
or one of them dies and the other becomes psychotic. Suppose instead
they both grew up together and thought of each other as brother and
sister, with neither of them desiring to actually push their
relationship toward romance."

This has happened in 'Ruler of the Raging Main', one of my favourite
stories (hint hint, finish the next chapter please <g>). Ranma thinks
of
her as a sister, Ukyou wants to marry him but has more or less given
up
hope and sees him as a good friend.

Well, it's debatable as to whether or not she's given up hope. I
actually hope she HASN'T, so that Ranma can start thinking of her as more
than a friend. We'll just have to see what Justin-san decides to do with
it. And yes, that was my not-so-subtle hint that I think Ranma should
forget Akane and her uppity self and stick with Ucchan. She's much
better for him. Also, remember, Ranma's just found out he's engaged to
Ukyou. How's that going to change his image of her? I can guarantee
it's going to be awkward for him (after he calms down and stops/finishes
beating his father) in the beginning, but how's he going to feel after
that? And like Rhialto, I hope the next chapter comes out soon. A great
fic for any of you who are thinking of doing some summer reading. Ja.
