Episode 3: Ryoga's Quest: The Search for Victory.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
	In a small cabin somewhere in the mountains of Japan, Ryoga
	Hibiki stared at the paper on his desk. His mind was focused to
	write Ranma a letter of challenge to make his appointment for
	his ultimate defeat. As Ryoga began to write, a knock came upon
	his door.
Ryoga:	(to himself as he walks to the door) Now, who could that be?
	Opening the door, Ryoga saw an old man weak for a reason Ryoga
	did not guess.
Man:	I am in need of assistance.
Ryoga:	(bringing him out of the rain) What sort of assistance?
Man:	I am in search of a student to carry down some of the techniques
	from my school. My son-in-law is no martial artist, and my
	granddaughter hasn't had enough training in the matter. Do you
	know of someone who might be willing to carry on my secrets?
Ryoga:	(thinking) If I can get him to teach me some of his techniques,
	I could easily defeat Ranma, but what would be the price of his
	lessons?
Man:	Well, do you know of someone?
Ryoga:	I might... what would be the price of your training?
Man:	Well, my granddaughter is in need of a future husband...
Ryoga:	(quickly, but uninterested) And if the student is already
	engaged?
Man:	(catching Ryoga's attempts to hide his interest) I suppose I
	could settle for him fetching me a family heirloom that has
	been stolen by a group of theives. It is a ring given to my
	ancestors by the Emperor of the Xing Dynasty of China. Bring
	it to me, and I will train you.
Ryoga:	I never said I would be going!
Man:	Pity... I guess there will be no one to carry on this technique
	then...
	The man tapped his walking stick on the floor of the cabin. A
	loud explosion was heard outside. As Ryoga looked out the
	window behind him, the earth erupted in an explosive blast
	sending land waves out from its center.
Ryoga:	(thinking) If I could master that... defeating Ranma could be
	a snap! (to the man) Very well. I will accept your terms.
	(thinking once more) Ranma... just you wait!
Man:	Very well. The bandits have a hideout somewhere in the southern
	plains. I wish you luck.
	the man hands Ryoga a map of the local area around the place
	he believes the bandits are located. He then leaves and chuckles
	hearily to himself.
Man:	(thinking) Little does that boy know what he's getting himself
	into. I hope Anani breaks her hatred of men when she sees this
	one... that lad may be my only hope in the matter...
	The next morning, Ryoga began his journey to the southern
	plains. Ryoga walked from the cabin and into the forested area
	of the Japanese mountians. After 2 weeks of journeying, he
	finally	began his descent on the opposite side of the mountain.
	As he entered a narrow pass, three men stopped him and blocked
	his way.
Man-1:	Well, well, well. What do we have here?
Man-2:	It looks like somebody wants to use the pass.
Man-3:	(stepping up to Ryoga) If you wanna use the pass, kid, you're
	going to have to pay us the toll.
Ryoga:	Toll? What sort of toll?
Man-2:	5,000 Yen, for tribute to the boss.
Ryoga:	What sort of fool do you take me for? I'm not paying that!
	The men look at each other with wide grins.
Man-3:	Well, if you're not going to pay it, we'll just take it from
	you!
	The men gathered around Ryoga. Ryoga stood still waiting for the
	right moment to initiate his combat. The three men charged him,
	and Ryoga jumped straight up. With one swift motion he grabbed
	his umbrella and swung wildly into the men.
	One by one the men were thrown into the rock walls of the pass.
	Ryoga piled them up and used his Bakusai Tenketsu to cause a
	small pile of rocks to keep them from getting up anytime soon.
Ryoga:	That ought to teach them!
	Ryoga continued down the pass and soon came to the edge of a
	large cliff overlooking the plains below.
Ryoga:	Well, that's where I'm headed...
	Just then a faint rumbling sound came into Ryoga's earshot. The
	noise grew lounder until it became almost a massive roar. Ryoga
	looked behind him to see a landslide bearing down upon him.
	Before he could react, the landslide caught him and sent him
	and the rest of the cliff, rolling swiftly at the mountain's
	bottom, some 4000 feet below. Everything went black as Ryoga
	gradually lost consciousness...
	In the quiet plain village of Yanin, the story of the landslide
	quickly spread. It was a common enough event, but the landslides
	often endangered crops and livestocks of the local farms.
	Fortuantely, this one did not harm either.
	A village girl, always lured to the landslides, played amongst
	the fallen rock debris, merrily skipping from one to another.
	She was sixteen, but this was much more fun than doing the
	chores at the house, and it was good training for her limited
	martial arts abilities.
	After an hour of activity, she noticed something odd in the
	pile of rubble. Upon closer inspection, she discovered a red
	bamboo umbrella. She attempted to lift it but was unsuccessful.
Girl:	(thinking)  That's odd... I wonder if someone was in the
	landslide? I'd better try to dig them out and get them some
	medical attention.
	The girl slowly removed the rocks from the pile of rubble and
	eventually uncovered an unconscious Ryoga. She lifted him out
	of the rubble and set him on the ground flat.
Girl:	(thinking) Oh bother! It's a boy... there's something different
	about him though... he looks so... so... cute.
	The girl dragged Ryoga back to a small home near the edge of the
	village. A gruff looking man with a growing beard emerged from
	the house and saw the girl coming up the road.
Man:	Anani? Is that you, dear?
Anani:	Yes, father. I found this... boy in the rubble from the landslide
	He's been knocked unconscious.
A'sDad:	You'd better get him in here, and to the guest bed! I'll give
	you a hand there.
	Anani and her father brought the unconscious Ryoga into the
	house and to the guest bed. Anani fetched some water and a
	cloth and put a wet cloth over his head.
Anani:	Do you think he'll be ok, father?
A'sDad:	Sure... ah, I see you like this one, eh?
Anani:	(reddening) I, uh, I never said that! I'm just concerned,
	because,... after all he is new around these parts!
A'sDad:	(playing along) I see... well it looks like he might have a
	mild concussion, but he'll probably survive.
	Going to school was never an enjoyable task for Anani. Many of
	the boys teased her, while others followed her around like
	sick little puppies. All Anani wanted was for someone who
	liked her interest in martial arts, and was a strong enough
	martial artist to carry on her grandfather's secrets.
	Walking quickly through the halls to her homeroom class, Anani
	hoped she could avoid the usual routine, but rounding the
	corner she saw the usual gang of boys waiting for her.
Boy1:	(sarcastically) OOOOOOOOH, here comes Anani! We'd best stay out of
	her way before she uses her "martial arts" on us.
Boy2:	(jumping out into Anani's way with sarcasm) Oh, Anani, please
	don't hurt us, we'll be better... if you give us a kiss.
Anani:	(reddening with anger) I'd rather kiss a DOG!
	Anani landed a solid kick square on the boy's jaw sending him
	flying into the wall across the hall on the ohter side. With
	a satisfied, and reassured look on her face, Anani continued
	down the hall.
	As Anani neared the hall she saw here homeroom nearing, but
	still at the end of the hall. She walked quickly, but not quick
	enough.
Boy3:	Hey, Anani! Want me to carry your books today?
	Before she could respond, another boy came up.
Boy4:	No, I'm going to carry Anani's books!
Boy3:	Hey! I was here first!
Boy4:	But, Anani likes me better!
	Anani rolled her eyes as the argument went underway. As she
	turned around she saw another boy carrying a bouquet of roses.
Boy5:	(quietly, and cautiously) Anani... uh, these are for you.
Anani:	It's a nice gesture, but I've told you before... at LEAST a
	hundred times, that I need someone who is a strong martial
	artist to carry on my grandfather's lessons. I'm sorry, but I
	can't accept these.
	Anani walked by and quickly dashed into her class.
	The school day was long, and incredibly stressful for Anani.
	Five boys attempted to hit on her on the way to her second
	class, three more to third, and two to fourth. Lunch was
	another story, as always. Five boys tried to fight their into
	Anani's heart, but in the end Anani flattened them all against
	the side of the school. After more hits and three more classes,
	school finally ended.
	Anani skipped merrily up the road to her house at the edge of
	town. After entering the door she continued right to the guest
	bedroom to tend to her "guest."
A'sDad:	That you Anani?
Anani:	(unusually cheerful) Yes, father.
A'sDad:	(Entering the guest room) How was school?
Anani:	(cleaning Ryoga's bandages) Huh? Oh, uh, It was fine. Why do you
	ask?
A'sDad:	Well, normally you come in grumbling about the boys teasing you
	and the ones chasing after you. I thought you might just have
	forgotten to do so.
Anani:	(still Cheery, Kasumi style cheery) Oh, well... there were a
	lot of guys trying to hit on me, but I got rid of them.
	Just then the door opens and the old man who talked to Ryoga
	enters.
Anani:	(still cheery) Good afternoon, Grandfather!
Grndad: Good Afternoon, Anani dear, you seem in good spirits.
Anani:	I'm just taking care of this traveller caught in a landslide
Grndad: That's nice (seeing Ryoga) Oh... oh my!
Anani:	Something wrong Grandfather?
Grndad: That's the boy I sent after the bandits who stole my ring. He
	 must have fought a lot of them guarding the pass, and caused
	 the landslide. Hope he'll be alright.
Anani:	He... took on some of the bandits?
Grndad:	Yes, I offered to train him in exchange for the task. You
	should have seen his eyes light up when he witnessed the
	Trans-Land Exploding Punch technique...
Anani:	Then he's... a martial artist?
	Anani's face lit up brightly. She glanced elated at her father
	who had a broad smile on his face. He'd never seen Anani so
	happy.
Anani:	Father?
A'sDad: Well, from the look in your eyes, Anani, when this poor boy
	 returns to us, I'll be calling him Son-In-Law
Anani:	(hugging her father, still elated) Oh, father. Thank You!!!
A'sDad: For what? You like him, I'm willing to let you marry someone
	 you love
	Anani hugs her father once more and goes back to Ryoga's wounds.
