Episode 2: True Confessions, Kipp's Syrum of Truth
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Three weeks passed since Kipp's first day at the Tendo Dojo. He
now walked with Akane and Ranma to school each morning to join
in with their group of friends. Ever since he joined them, Ranma
made it a ritual to try to get information on Kipp's parents.
It almost became control training, but Kipp had a long way to
go.
From blasting holes in walls, incinerating trees, and blowing
up rocks to giving Ranma close shaves with the raging balls of
energy, Ranma had failed to get the information out of him.
Ranma: What could possibly be so wrong with your parents, Kipp?
Akane: Oh, Ranma, won't you ever give it a rest?
Kipp: I told you before, Ranma, it brings up painful memories.
Ranma: Well, if you talked about them, maybe they wouldn't be as bad.
Surges of dark past trickled into Kipp's consciousness. Kipp
fought them with all his might, but the red aura began to
eminate. Kipp stopped walking exerting full concentration to
blocking the incoming visions.
Akane: Kipp, calm down!
Ranma: Come on, spit it out already.
Akane: Ranma!
Kipp's aura faded as he regained control of his thoughts.
Kipp: When I was five, an opposing martial art school came in to our
home in China and...
Kipp's aura began to flare again. Soon, Kipp was able to simmer
it down again.
Ranma: And...?
Kipp: Murdered them in front of me.
Akane: What? How could they be so cruel?
Kipp: That's who they are. I was brought up by my father's school once
they found me. They initiated me and treated me like family...
that's all I can say right now, but from then on I vowed to
myself to train as hard as possible to defeat them. Any new
technique I found I would not rest until I mastered it. I'm still
like that in a way...
Ranma: No wonder you get so mad.
Akane: Thirteen years of being angry...
Kipp: Martial Arts pushed more of it from my mind... until the
flashbacks started up. There are more scenes then I can willingly
remember that arise from them.
They arrived at school and went about the school day just
talking, and studying in class, of course. Kipp learned much
about Ranma, Akane, and all his fiancees. Shampoo, the Amazon
who turns into a cat, and Mousse her would-be boyfriend, also a
duck, who wants to hurt Ranma so he can get Shampoo. Kipp
thought of a normal relation between a cat and a duck and thought
the circumstances between the two amusing.
After school, Ranma, Akane, and Kipp met up and began to walk
to the dojo for after school training and drills. Ranma and Kipp
had begun to work on several techniques for use together, but
hadn't mastered any, yet.
Kuno: (charging from behind) Ranma Saotome, I shall smite thee!
Ranma: (turning) Huh? Oh, not Kuno again.
Kipp: (to Ranma) Who?
Ranma: I'll tell you later.
Kuno approached Ranma and took a swing at him with his bokken.
Ranma flipped over him and threw several punches at him. Kuno
swirled around, launched an attack, then got launched several
feet into the air by Ranma's foot.
Ranma: He never learns.
Kipp: Now, who was that?
Ranma: He calls himself the "Blue Thunder of Furinkan High". His real
name is Tatewaki Kuno. He's the captian of the school Kendo
Club, but not someone you want to know on a regular basis.
Kipp: I see, but isn't it customary to offer an unarmed opponent a
weapon if you, yourself, are using one?
Ranma: Who taught you that?
Kipp: One of my masters at my martial arts school, and my father.
Kipp walked over to the fallen captain of the Furinkan Kendo
Club.
Kipp: I'd say you need a little work.
Kuno: How dare you insult the flawless Tatewaki Kuno!
Kipp: I can only speak for what I just saw.
Kuno: Then you shall feel the wrath of Tatewaki Kuno.
Kipp: Thanks, but not today. I don't want to have an advantage being
uninjured. How about tomorrow after school?
Kuno: Fine then, we shall meet behind the gym!
Kipp: Deal.
Akane, Ranma, and Kipp walked back to the Tendo Dojo where they
were greeted by Kasumi. As they walked to the dojo area, they
met Genma in the hall.
Genma: So, boy, how has your training with Kipp been going?
Ranma: At least he doesn't run away like SOMEONE I know!
Genma: You don't know what you're saying, boy. I've been holding back
for your own sake.
Ranma: Yeah, sure!
Genma: If you want to test that then why not fight me!
Ranma: Anytime old man!
Genma: Fine then!
Genma and Ranma begin fighting and chasing each other outside
while throwing punches.
Kasumi: I hear you and Dr. Tofu are working on a new herbal remedy.
Kipp: That's right. I have some of it here. It hasn't been tested,
but this herbal mixture is supposed to help ease fatigue, but
we don't know if it will have any side effects or not.
Kipp takes some of the herbs in a tea packet and places them on
the table.
Kasumi: Oh, Kipp. I was wondering if you could help me with some things
from the market. I was going to ask Ranma, but he's training.
Kipp: It would be my pleasure.
Akane: I'll help too!
Kasumi, Akane, and Kipp leave the house and go to the market.
On the way back...
Kasumi: So what other things have you and Dr. Tofu been working on?
Kipp: There is this other Herbal Essence that we have been looking in
to that seems to cause people to tell the truth. The police
force has asked us to do some work on it for criminal investigations
Akane: Have you gotten it to work?
Kipp: Yeah, I brought some of that along with me to take to Dr. Tofu.
I have a bit more at home to.
Kipp reaches into his pocket and pulls out another tea-packet
shaped envelope. On the front is marked "Herbal Refreshing
Agent".
Kipp: Uh-oh.
Kasumi: What is it?
Kipp: I thought I left this packet at the dojo. It appears it is the
Truth Essence I left there instead!
Back at the Tendo Dojo:
Ranma: (Entering from training) Phew! That made me thirsty! Wonder if
there's any tea made.
Ranma sees the packet of tea and fixes a cup of hot water.
Ranma: Hmm.. here's some. There seems to be enough for a cup.
Ranma fixes the hot water and puts the tea packet in the cup
and takes a long sip. As he puts the cup down, Kasumi, Akane,
and Kipp return from the market.
Kipp: Uh-Oh I recognize that smell.
Ranma: Hey, Kasumi. What kind of tea was on the table? It tastes
pretty good whatever it is.
Akane & Kipp: What?
Kasumi: Oh, that was actually some herbal essence that Kipp and Dr. Tofu
worked up.
Ranma: What kind of essence?
Kipp: It's designed to make people tell the truth.
Ranma: What?
Kipp: Tell me something, how are you feeling?
Ranma: Not too good really, the Old man came at me pretty good and
gave me a scare a couple of times, and the weather was really
a but to hot today. The outfit Ukyo was wearing was pretty
cute...
Ranma covered his mouth, but to late. Whack! Akane hit Ranma
with her school bag that was lying on the table with a
quick motion.
Kipp: Well, I'd say it works.
Ranma: It sure does. How long do you think it'll last?
Kipp: With the amount you drank, I'd say about 24 hours, maybe more.
Ranma: Great, now that I have to tell the truth there are probably
a lot of people who are going to be angry with me.
Kipp: If I were you, Ranma, I would stay away from your other fiancees
Nabiki: (entering) What's that? Ranma has to tell the truth now? This
could be an interesting proposition.
Ranma: Oh no, don't you dare think that!
Nabiki: Why not? What are you going to do about it?
Ranma: Probably nothing because that would...
Ranma's face reddened as he attempted to hold back the words he
was about to say.
Akane: That would what?
Ranma was silent, but obviously holding back, it did not look
like he could hold it in much longer.
Nabiki: Come now, do tell.
Ranma: (quickly) because it would probably make Akane mad at me.
Akane: (becoming red) What?
Nabiki: Really now... (looks at Akane)
Akane: Don't tell me you're thinking on asking him...
Ranma: Oh no, I'm outta here!
Soun and Genma come in having heard some of the comments and
hold Ranma in his seat.
Nabiki: Now come on Ranma, why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel
about Akane?
Ranma: Because I don't want to.
Nabiki: Let me rephrase that. How do you feel about Akane?
Ranma: (straining to withhold) She....is....so....**CUTE!
Ranma slapped his hand to his mouth. Akane's face reddened
profusely. All eyes turned to Akane. Genma and Soun prance
and dance in the background estatic of the confession.
Akane: (Embarrased) I... um... I'm going... to go to bed now, It's
getting rather late.
She runs quickly out of the room.
Kipp: Well, Ranma, it looks like you're going to have a LONG day
tomorrow.
The next day Ranma and Akane walked to school without saying
a word to each other. Akane thought about what Ranma had truely
confessed, and wondered why he had never actually said it
before. She thought if it was because of her, or because of his
other fiancees. Did he like one of them more than her?
When they reached school, they saw Nabiki at a booth with a
line of people in front of it. On a pole on top of the booth
was a sign: "Have Ranma Tell You What He Really Thinks! Only
5000 Yen per question."
Akane: What... is she... doing?!
Ranma: I have a bad feeling about this.
Akane: Why? You don't have to go up there!
Ranma: No, but look who's at the front of the line.
Akane took another look at the line, and sure enough there were
both Ukyo and Shampoo fighting over who got to go first.
Nabiki: (Calling as she sees Ranma) Hey Ranma! Come here for a sec!
Ranma: No, way! I'm not that stupid!
Ukyo: (Calling) Oh come on, Ran-Chan, everybody's waiting!
Shampoo: Ranma! You come NOW!
A group from the line began to run and surround Ranma, soon the
entire line joined in on the attempt to get Ranma to the stand.
Ranma made a break for it and the mass swarmed after him.
Nabiki: Its a good thing that line was for the paid customers...
At lunch, Ranma faced another swarm of people trying to fulfill
their requests. Ranma successfully got away and headed back to
class. In the hallway leading to class he was stopped by Ukyo.
Ranma: Hey... Ucchan, what eh... what's up?
Ukyo: Ranma, I want you to answer this honestly.
Ranma: (quickly) Ok...
Ukyo: How do you really see the relationship between us?
Ranma: We have a good relationship between us, Ukyo, with us being
really good friends and all.
The word "friends" pounded at Ukyo like a lead hammer.
Ukyo: (glumly) I see... Excuse me.
Ukyo ran down quickly down the hall. As she just got out of view,
Kipp truned the corner towards class.
Kipp: (looking in the direction Ukyo went) What happened to Ukyo?
Ranma: She, uh... asked how I viewed the relationship between us.
Kipp: Uh-oh. I was afraid something like this would happen. I'd better
go see if I can do anything about that.
Kipp ran down the hallway after Ukyo as Ranma went to class.
Kipp caught a glimpse of Ukyo running into the Girl's bathroom
Kipp: (muttering to himself) Great... looks like I get to flaunt my
other self around for the rest of the school day.
After grabbing a bucket from the Janitor's closet, Kipp went
into the boy's bathroom and filled the bucket up with water.
He poured it onto himself and stared at the strawberry-blonde
girl with two cat ears and a tail. He sighed and walked into
the girl's bathroom making sure no one else was in there, but
Ukyo, first. After a successful search, he closed the door and
locked it.
Ukyo: (muttering softly) Oh, Ran-chan, if only I could really tell
you how I felt...
K-Chan: It's not all his fault, Ukyo.
Ukyo: Huh? Who's that?
Kipp walked forward, and a puzzled Ukyo stared sullen, but
shocked at him.
Ukyo: Who are you?
K-Chan: This may be a little hard to believe, but I'm Kipp. Like Ranma,
I too fell into a cursed pool at Jusenkyo.
Ukyo: Why are you here?
K-Chan: Well, I saw how upset you were, and I thought I'd try to cheer
you up a bit.
Ukyo: Thanks, but I think It'd be better if you left me alone for a
while.
K-Chan: Suit yourself.
Kipp turned to leave, just as he reached the door, Ukyo stopped
him.
Ukyo: Wait. Maybe, it would make me feel better to talk to someone.
Kipp walked back to Ukyo.
K-Chan: Alright then, perhaps you'd prefer to take a walk as opposed to
stay in the bathroom? It sure would make me feel a little
better. I'm not used to this female... business yet.
Ukyo gave a little smirk, and the two exited the bathroom.
Directly after school, Kipp, Ranma, Akane, and other students
waited for the arrival of Kuno to meet his challenge, and were
not disappoineted. Kipp reached into a bag he brought with him
and produced a third bokken. He tossed it to Kuno.
Kuno: What's this?
Kipp: Is it not customary, or at least in good sport, for the
challenger to offer his opponent equal ammouts of equipment?
Kuno: Ha! I Tatewaki Kuno shall defeat you without the extra weapon.
Kipp: Very well, then. As challenger, it is my duty to state my name
first. I am Kipp Hoshiryuu of the Hoshiryuu school of Anything
Goes Martial Arts and Kenjutsu.
Kuno: Don't you mean Kendo?
Kipp: If you would refer to it in the modern terminology, then yes.
Kuno: I would. I am Tatewaki Kuno, of the Kuno School of Kendo, Rising
Star of the Intramural Kendo World, and Captain of this school's
Kendo Club. My very name and presence strikes fear into all who
oppose me.
Ranma: (thinking) Doesn't he wish...
Kipp drew two bokken from their scabbards strapped to his back.
Kuno readied his bokken and the two moved into their fighting
stances.
Kuno: Prepare yourself to be brought to justice!
Kuno charged Kipp and thrusted his bokken several times at him.
Kipp blocked the attacks with both of his bokken and launched
into his own assault landing several hits and knocking Kuno
on his back.
Kuno: (getting up) Hold, for I have just begun!
Kipp: I don't have time for this.
Kuno charged Kipp, but as he did a faint shimmering eminated
from Kipp.
Kipp: Iki no Kazehiryuu!
A translucent image of a winged dragon coiled behind Kipp
pointing its mouth at the charging Kuno, who kept on unfazed.
The dragon took in a breath and exhaled in rising up a windjet
at Kuno, swiping him off of his feet and crashing him into a
nearby wall leaving an imprint.
Kipp: (to Akane and Ranma) Shall we be off?
Ranma: I thought you'd never ask.
Several hours later at the Tendo Dojo...
Soun: So tell us Ranma, do you really love Akane?
Genma: We could have the wedding tonight if you'd like
Ranma: (face completely red from strain) grrrrr.. I'm not going to...
Suddenly, the pressure was taken off Ranma and his face
returned to it's original color.
Ranma: Ha! It wore off!
Genma and Soun droped to the floor, then left moping.
Ranma: (thinking) I don't know if I do or not...
