Hello there, childrens. How're my little crackers today?
Hi folks, this is to tide a few people over who want me to post
something. The NC stands for "New Character" and he is of my
creation... at least I think he is.
Truth be told, I don't know where I come up with this stuff.
Anyway, this is the first 'bit' of Let me Live my Life. It available on
my webpage
http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Shrine/6648/
When the fic is complete, it will be sent the people who requested to
preread... I think I got 2.
The Prologues for 'Possibilities' and 'Of Gods and Men' are nearly
complete. My muse thinks them more worthy of my attention.
More will be revealed of Koenma's past as time goes by.
(Imagine the worst parts of Tarou, Ukyo and Ranma's pasts. Now roll
them up into one.)

Hinako Ninomiya stood at the front of the classroom, doing her
best to look threatening. As she was an adult at the time, it came
across as more of a sultry, heavy-lidded glance. Half of the males in
the class had already passed out due to severe blood loss. Next to her
stood a young man who looked to be about sixteen or seventeen. He was
holding a pad of paper in one hand and his bookbag in the other. To say
he looked bored would be an understatement.
"Class," Hinako's deep voice broke the silence. "this is Koenma
Hoshi. He transferred here from Juuban and will be joining our class.
Is there anyone who would like to show him around the school?" Seeing a
very low percentage of the class conscious, and only Yuka and Sayuri
with their hands raised, Hinako pointed towards the back of the room.
"Gosunkugi-kun, you may be Koenma's guide for the day."
Koenma headed for the back of the room and sat next to a young man
who, believe it or not, had two lit candles strapped to his head. He
seemed to be daydreaming and Koenma, quickly becoming bored by the
lecture Ms. Hinako was presenting to the class, reached into his bag and
pulled out his lucky pen. Not having anything in mind, he scanned the
classroom, and decided to draw someone at random.
Just as pen touched paper, the door burst open and in ran a boy in
a red silk shirt, and a short haired girl in a school uniform. Both
were breathing heavily, but the girl was still managing to yell at the
boy somehow.
"Ranma, you baka, you made us late again!" The girl managed to
catch her breath during the statement. Ranma, at least that's what
Koenma figured his name was, turned a glare on her and began flinging
insults back. Both were stopped when a piece of chalk impacted on
Ranma's head. A little girl was now standing on the desk at the front
of the room, which surprised Koenma a little, but he'd seen stranger
things.
Ranma and the girl got sent out into the hall by Ms. Hinako, both
were still yelling at each other. Koenma turned to Gosunkugi to see if
he could figure out what the heck was going on. However, Koenma's guide
for the day was busy staring at the door where the two teens had been
sent into the hallway.
Gosunkugi sighed, "Akane-san..."
Koenma looked around and decided that a twelve year-old teacher
might not be such a bad artistic venture after all. He started his
sketch just as she began continuing the lecture that Ranma and Akane had
interupted.
*-*-*-*
About a ten minutes later, the boys in the class had regained
consciousness and Koenma had just about finished his drawing. He'd been
interupted by some loud yelling from the hallway, but otherwise nothing
had gone wrong. Hinako, still her small form, finally noticed what had
kept him occupied for the past thirty minutes. She stalked over to his
desk to demand an explanation.
"Koenma-kun, explain yourself!"
Then she noticed what it was a drawing of. The nearby students
heard her murmur "Kawaii..."
Ms. Hinako grabbed the piece of paper and tore it out of Koenma's
sketchbook, she hugged it to her chest and ran up and stuffed it in one
of the drawers of her desk.
"Now, Koenma-kun, you still have to go stand in the hall."
As Koenma passed the front row of seats he heard whispers. Two of
the kids in the front row were discussing something about him being
drained that he couldn't quite make out.
*-*-*-*
After grabbing two buckets of water, Koenma exited the classroom.
When he opened the door into the hallway, he found a puddle of water and
a bucket that had been sliced in half. Setting one of his own buckets
down, he
moved a stray hair out of his eyes. "Oh yeah, I can tell this is just
gonna be a lot of fun." He sighed as he picked the bucket up again and
began to stand his vigil.
*-*-*-*
Lunchtime came, accompanied by the usual fanfare. A purple haired
amazon here, a blind one there. Koenma sat at a table with two of the
girls from his class, Yuka and Sayuri were their names, he discovered.
They both seemed nice enough, and were willing to be friends. He idly
doodled a picture of one of the more impressive fighters as he watched
the lunchtime battle. "Go to Nerima, they said. No martial artists
there, they said. I think I've been tricked." He sighed as he realized
that he wouldn't be able to move again for a few months. Unless of
course, his paintings started selling. <Oh well, at least I get to go
to school for free.> He smirked as he remembered the deal he had struck
with the principal.
All it took for him to attend was a few paintings of Hawaii. How
could anyone be so obsessed with anything? Koenma's attention shifted
as the boy in kendo garb fell. He was the last of the opponents to
Ranma, the boy in a red shirt with a pig-tail, who was apparently some
kind of superstar around here. Of course, Ranma was immedeatly pounced
upon by a girl named Akane, all Koenma could make out was something
about picking on a boy named Ryoga.
Koenma turned to Yuka and pointed at the giant mass of people.
"Um... what's going on?" he asked. Yuka turned to Sayuri and they both
began to explain things much to fast for him to understand. "That girl
is Akane, she's our friend. The boy is her fiancee, Ranma Saotome.
The guy in the kendo gear is Tatewaki Kuno, he's in love with Akane.
The boy with the bandanna is Ryoga... um, something, anyway, he's in
love with Akane too. The girl with the giant spatula is Ukyo Kuonji,
she's sorta our friend too but don't tell Akane that. She's Ranmas
other fiancee..."
"Other fiancee?"
At Sayuri and Yuka's look he put his head in his hands and began
mumbling. "Nevermind, I don't wanna know. I mean that."
The two girls shrugged and continued eating their lunches while
prodding at him about his life. "So, what was it like living in
Juuban?"
*-*-*-*
Akane scowled as she tossed Ranma through the air. <How dare he
pick on Ryoga like that!>. She turned towards where her two friends,
Yuka and Sayuri, were sitting and was surprised to see a boy with them.
<I wonder who that is, maybe Yuka or Sayuri got a boyfriend.> She
giggled as she walked over at the possibility of one of her friends
finally finding romance.
She sat down next to Yuka, who was sitting directly across from
the boy, and joined into the idle chatter. It was then that she noticed
that pad of paper on the table, and the picture on it. "Say, what's
this?"
The boy looked up from where he had his head in his hands. "Oh,
hello. Akane, right? Yuka and Sayuri told me a lot about you. I'm
Koenma Hoshi." Koenma did a half-hearted salute with one hand, then he
noticed what she was looking at. "Oh, that's a drawing of that guy with
the long black hair and the glasses." He turned to Yuka, "Didn't you
say his name was Mousse or something?" he asked. Yuka nodded. "It's
actually pronounced 'Mu Tse' or something but everyone just calls him
Mousse."
"Chinese Amazon, right?"
Akane looked up sharply, "Yes, how'd you know?"
"Lucky guess." Koenma turned to the side to avoid Akane's next
question. "Looks like your boyfriend's coming back." he said with a
smirk.
Akane growled as she noticed that Ranma was walking over to sit by
her. "He is NOT my boyfriend." she half-yelled. Koenma smiled a
gentle smile at her, but their was a mischevious twinkle to his eyes.
"Fiancee. My mistake." Akane didn't notice him removing another sheet
of paper from his jacket, and a pencil. She also didn't notice as he
started to draw a picture on the paper. Akane turned blazing eyes on
Yuka and Sayuri, "What did you tell him about me?"
Yuka grabbed Sayuri and pulled her in front of her, it made her
feel safer when answering. "Um... nothing?" She said in a tiny voice.
Ranma sat down next to Akane and tapped her on the shoulder.
"Hey, tomboy, I was wondering..." was all he managed to say, before he
was flying away again. The word 'Baka' reverberating in the air.
Koenma could only stare in amazement as Ranma vanished into the
distance. He looked down at the piece of paper in his hands. His hands
moved the pencil across the paper so quickly that the picture seemed to
draw itself. It was an almost perfect picture of Akane, eyes shining
with evident anger, with a giant wall of flame for a backdrop.
Koenma barely had time to smile at his half-completed work before
a shadow fell over him. He looked up to find a boy who looked to be
about eighteen holding a wooden sword. "Ah, fair Akane, I am truly glad
that you have finally put that cretin Saotome in his place. Now you
need not be ashamed to reveal to the world your true feelings about
me."
Kuno looked down at the piece of paper in Koenma's hands. "But hark!
Who are you foul beast that you would so draw the fair Akane Tendo?"
Koenma looked around briefly, attempting to locate the hidden
camera, before he responded. "Um, I'm new here." he extended his
hand.
"My name is Koenma Hoshi, it's nice to meet you."
Kuno batted away Koenma's hand with his bokken, and lowered the
wooden sword at the new student. "I must request that you hand over
that parchment, so that it may be placed alongside my other treasures.
If you will not ye shall pay a most dire price." Unbeknownst to both
Koenma and Kuno, Yuka reached over and snatched the piece of paper from
Koenma's hand, the word 'whoa!' escaped her lips. As Koenma continued
to try and find a peaceful way to settle things with Kuno. Yuka,
Sayuri, and Akane were all staring at the picture that he had drawn.
Koenma was quickly growing angry with the egotistical moron who
was trying to bully him. He jabbed his finger into Kuno's chest as he
started talking back. "Listen, Kuno, those pictures are my private
property. I made them, I own them. I have on occasion given them to
people as presents, I even sell some to make ends meat, but I don't give
them to narrow-minded, overly possesive idiots!"
Kuno stared at the finger lightly imbedded in his chest. He then
slowly raised his bokken. When he spoke, his voice was quiet and full
of determination. "Thou wouldst dare profit off the beauty of Akane
Tendo? You will be punished!" The slash sent the young artist flying
into a nearby wall. Yuka was the first one away from the table,
followed closely by Sayuri. Akane stopped briefly to kick Kuno in the
head, causing him to crumple to the ground.
When Akane reached the fallen form of Koenma, Yuka was already
checking him for injuries. He appeared to be mostly conscious, though
rapidly fading. "You know," he said. "In retrospect that might not
have been the wisest thing to do." Koenma grunted once in pain and
closed his eyes.
Yuka turned to Akane, she appeared greatly worried for her new
friend. "Akane? I think we should take him to that doctor who lives
near here. You know where that is, right?"
Akane nodded, mumbling something that sounded like an affirmative,
as she effortlessly hoisted him over her shoulder. "Come on, let's go."
Sayuri and Yuka followed close behind Akane as they made their way
to Doctor Tofu's. When they stopped so that the two non-martial artists
could rest, Yuka remembered what she was holding in her hand. She
handed the sketch to Akane. "Here, I think you should have this,
Akane." she said.
Akane looked up at her, not even breathing hard from carrying
Koenma. "Why me?" she asked.
Both Yuka and Sayuri rolled their eyes at her, but Sayuri was the
one who answered. "Well, duh, it's a picture of you, why shouldn't you
be the one who gets it."
"Well, I guess..." Akane trailed off as she looked at the picture
she was holding. "I think we should get going." Akane said as she
resumed walking towards Doctor Tofu's. Yuka and Sayuri looked at each
other and shrugged before following Akane again.
*-*-*-*
Ranma was in the classroom looking somewhat worse for wear. There
was a giant imprint on his cheek, and were it not for the icepack there
would be a giant bump visible on his head. Hiroshi and Daisuke sat on
either side of him as he tried to at least pretend to pay attention.
Glancing over towards where Akane usually sat, Ranma noticed that she
wasn't there for some reason. "Hey, Hiroshi." Ranma was careful to
whisper so as not to incur the wrath of Ms. Hinako. "Where'd Akane go?"
Hiroshi whispered back just as quietly. "According to just about
everybody, Akane left with the new kid at lunch."
Ranma did a double-take before whispering back. "What new kid?"
"Some guy named Koenma Hoshi, I think. He was introduced this
morning before you and Akane came barging in."
Ranma looked down at his desk. <Oh... Well, fine then!>
At the sound of the door crashing open, the entire class looked
up. Akane and Sayuri were standing in the doorway, both were breathing
heavily.
"We're sorry..." Akane stopped to catch her breath. "We're
sorry, we're late Ms. Hinako, but we had to take Koenma-kun to see a
doctor."
Hinako nodded, having been informed of Koenma's 'introduction' to
Tatewaki Kuno. "Where is Yuka-chan?"
Sayuri fielded Ms. Hinako's question as both girls made their way
to their desks. "She decided to stay with Koenma-kun until he wakes
up."
That's it so far...
P.S. I considered the following scene, tell me if I should:
Yuka turned to Koenma after examining his sketch of Mousse.
"Koenma-kun?"
Koenma looked up from where he lay on the clinic's bed. "Yeah?"
"Where did you learn to draw so well?"
"All of the people in my family have been great artists. My
great-grandmother was supposedly so talented that her paintings looked
as though they could come to life at any moment. Of course, she also
said she came from another dimension, so you know how we all took that."
"What was her name?"
"Relm."
"You fool, you don't understand."
