Well, I've recevied a fair number of resposnes to my various Ranma
fanfics, but...
When I did my first EVA fanfic I recieved much more that I ever did
for a single Ranma story. Once Garden of EVA shows up on RAAC I may
even got more.
<chuckle> I was surprised by the amount of feedback I got (and still
get!) for my Ranma/Eva work. Lot of people still haven't seen through
Eva, so that'll just improve...
So, it'll vary...There is a lot of Ranma fanfics so non-Ranma fics >are
sometimes refreshing, but again since Ranma is so popular in >general,
there is likely to be more of a demand for Ranma stories. >Hence why
there are so many Ranma fanfics out there in the first >place.
<nod> I'll be honest... I don't read much of the Ranma fic posted to the
list. There's an awful lot of it, and obviously the newer stuff by
unproven authors just can't compete with some of the older "classics".
(Anybody who was in the Akon Friday night fanfic buffet will remember
this being talked about.)
What DO I read? Stuff by established authors, first. If I see "Leifker"
or "Kleppe" in the "FROM" field, I'm much more likely to look that first
time, instead of hitting <delete> out of hand. (Heaven help me when I
see a "Huang" post.)
I'll look at Ranma posts with a lot of follow-ups... if people talk
about it (and don't say "This sucks"), it's probably worth a read.
Every Eva fic. Every Slayers fic. Other titles get spotty; I'll usually
read a Gundam Wing one, for example. No Nuku-Nuku, and no FY, inasmuch
as they sometimes appear in good crossovers.
Which brings me to another point... I don't read much with
[Ranma][Xover] in the header. Why not just say what series it's crossed
with? (Exceptions for one-shot fics with surprise endings, natch.) I'll
look at most of the other crossovers out there, if just to look...
Personally, I right Ranma (and now EVA) fanfics because that is where
my interest and passion lies right now. I will eventually do other
anime fanfics, but I have more of a passion for Ranma right now. >Until
the final EVA episodes I really had no ideas for a EVA fanfic, >but
episode 26 gave me an setting that didn't end with the >destruction of
the human race, so I jumped in.
Oh, and let me say here that I like "Garden of Eva" a lot... when I
first saw that segment, I wondered, "Why hasn't anybody done a fanfic of
this yet?"
What I'm saying is...write what you enjoy writting. If the other fans
like it, great. IF you can mess with their minds with plot twists,
even greater. If you get unsolicited thousand dollar checks in the
mail...you're dreaming.
Exactly. That, and pick up some notoriety, ideally. (Though that's not
always a good thing, eh, Oscar?)
