A Moment in the Life
by Chris Hall

As I look back upon my life, I see a time filled with wonder and
excitemant. It was always fun back then, with new challenges and
things to experience daily. We were all immortal in the distant past,
always fighting, but never serious. Until the first person died. When
Akane died, my world shattered. We often were fighting, and called
each other names, but she really was cute, not just when she smiled.
It was my fault. I had grown careless, tired of fighting the
endless hordes of martial artists that were determined to defeat me
for slights real or imagined. In the last fight, a warrior named
Saffron struck out at my fiancee, Akane Tendo. She was a martial
artist, but nowhere near the power level of Saffron and myself. She
was overwhelmed, and the power level killed her. When I saw this, I
snapped. I don't remember much after that point, but I doubt there is
anything left of Saffron.
The year following that event is somewhat of a blur in my memory. I
was devastated that all I had ever known was gone. I vaguely remember
leaving the Tendo household, and the sad and angry stares of the
Akane's two sisters. I set out to wander the earth, hoping to cure
this terrible curse and to try to find a new place to call my home.
I traveled to China, hoping to find the cure for the curse that had
left a deep scar on my soul. Alas, it was far too easy to find
Jusenkyou again this time. I talked with the guide and he led me to
the correct pool. I am now a man again, no longer afraid of the cold
water that caused such tragedies. Now that my life is reduced to
nothing, the curse finally lets its stranglehold go.
I now set out to overcome my sadness and start a new life.
