The problem with a discussion of magical theory is that any human dialogue
takes place in some logical framework.  (Sorry, I just got through reading
one of the Dune books.)  But what does logic have to do with magic?

A categorization of various spell types is useful, but magical 'theory' is
rather pointless in my opinion.  Unless you decide that the magic of the
universe you are writing about is a type of energy that does follow
physical rules, but then you end up with something more akin to psi than
what would call magic.
