Well, the three love pills were an attempt by Shampoo to force someone to
love her... I believe that they were supposed to be magical. Whether they
were or not, the principle is similar.
The stimulus-responce food definitely was magical, and Shamps used it to
try to get Ranma to get physical with her.
All in all, there are enough instances of Shamps using magical or
semi-magical items in an attempt to win Ranma's love to make the comment
hit home.
You forgot the magic red string.
