Ok, this is only my second fic. My first bombed. Not that it didn't get a
positive reaction just that I was pointed towards the fact that it had some
HUGE gaping holes plot wise. (Those things could have swallowed North
America......) That Which Survives is currently receiving a total work over
and a probably new title as we speak. Until then though I'll be working on and
posting this here to help improve my writing skills. (If I have any at all...)
Please if you have the time, send some C&C my way. Doesn't have to be anything
big. Even pointing out a few spelling errors and telling me your general
feelings about it would be appreciated. Of course I'd prefer a more detailed
C&C but I'm not sure this is good enough to merit more. I hope that's just
second time author nervousness. ANYway enough talking. Let me know what you
think and on to the fic...

	"No One"
By: Mike Malaspina

		Prologue
There was once a boy. This boy grew up in a small village with his family.
Life was simple and good. Then one day many men invaded this simple little
village. And the boy hid. And watched as his everyone he knew was violently
cut down by ruthless Pokemon. He watched as his world burned to the ground. He
watched and grew angry. More angry than he had ever been in his short life.
After the horrible Pokemon trainers left the boy cried. After he cried he ran.
After he fell too tired to run he vowed that if it took every last breath in
his body he would kill every Pokemon and every Pokemon trainer to go along
with them. Not long after he made his vow he curled up under a tree and fell
asleep shivering.

When he awoke the first thing he saw was a Pokemon. A Sandshrew to be exact.
As he rubbed the sleep from his eyes he decided this would be the first evil
Pokemon to fall before his feet. But as he went to hit it he received a nasty
surprise. The Sandshrew was going to fight back. It used its slash attack on
him and left a long cut on his arm. As he screamed in pain the Sandshrew used
it's sand-attack blinding the boy and making the cut hurt that much more. The
boy quickly passed out.

When he awoke he found himself staring into the face of a lovely young woman.
This woman happened to be a nurse at a Pokemon Center. She told him she was
sorry she couldn't do more to help him but this was a hospital meant for
Pokemon not humans. But that even so he'd be fine. After he was caught trying
to murder a Pikachu in its sleep the boy was sat down for a long talk with the
young nurse. First the boy told his story. Then after three hours of
explaining the boy was convinced it was not the Pokemon's fault but that of
the trainer who had raised it.

Because of his realization he decided to change his vow. So, from that day
forth he vowed to kill all evil Pokemon trainers, set their Pokemon free and
make sure no matter how bad the person was he would not kill their Pokemon in
battle or otherwise. Likewise he wouldn't kill any wild Pokemon. Over the
years he grew. He caught Pokemon and trained them to grow up strong. As they
grew up strong so did he. He took an interest in martial arts deciding that he
should be just as much a weapon as any of his Pokemon.

As the boy grew he traveled far and wide learning and helping people in
need when he could. By the time he was 16 he had gained a reputation as a
wandering savior to those in need. And wandering deaths warrant to those who
put the needy in their positions. At age 17 the once boy now teenager for the
first time in his life took another's life.

He buried the man and moved on quickly forgetting about his sudden
doubts and worries about himself and who he was. At age 18 he became a man. It
was then that he decided that his plan was too idealistic, too foolish. He
broke his vow three days later. He slaughtered a small band of thieves and
mercenaries. Taking each of their Pokemon and one by one crushing the
Pokeballs which they occupied. He told himself that it was for the Pokemon's
own good. They had been raised by evil and were there fore corrupted beyond
reprieve.

It is now in his 23rd year that we join this man on his never ending
journey.....

		Chapter 1
A young looking man with long flowing greenish black hair done in a pony tail
dressed in black armor like attire rode atop of a Rapadash. Hanging from his
right hip was a katana with a black hilt. On the belt around his waist 6 small
half-white half-red balls rested. On his face was a look of disgust. The scene
before him was one he had seen far too many times. Some scumbag Pokemon
trainers were trying to bully a little girl into giving up her Pokemon of
which she only had three. With a silent command the man's Rapadash trotted
forth until it was thirteen paces away from the wretched men who dared to
threaten an innocent. "So, you boys always pick on little girls to boost your
egos?"

The four men were startled to hear the voice that came from behind them. They
had heard nothing and yet here behind them was a man sitting atop a Rapadash.
They all immediately wondered how he had snuck up on them but soon dropped it
deciding to have some fun with the goof ball before they took the little
girl's Pokemon. One of the trainers who was obviously the leader stepped
forward and gave the black clad man an appraising look before asking him, "Who
the fuck are you?"

"Yeah!" Exclaimed the large fat one who was currently holding the little girl
back so she couldn't escape.

The other two members of the small gang joined in with shouts of "Who are
you?!" When the small gang's leader saw that he had Pokeballs he decided
instead of just humiliating him they'd take his Pokemon as well. So, he each
sent out his Pokemon. Knowing his men would follow suit instantly. The leader
had a Geodude, Cloyster and Pidgeot. The fat man sent out a Koffig, Weezing
and Zubat. The other two men only had one Pokemon each, a Gloom and an Ekans.
This made for a total of 8 Pokemon.

The stranger smiled and sent shivers up and down the spines of the four
punks. He reached down to his belt and carefully removed one pokeball. As he
threw it he said, "I am no one. Go Pokeball!"

	"SCYTHEERRR!"

The call echoed in the little girl's ears as she saw each of the Pokemon die
quick but brutal deaths. The Ekans who happened to be closest to the Pokeball
as it landed and its inhabitant popped out died first. Its head cut cleanly
away from it's still wriggling body. The Gloom tried to run away but was
shredded before it could take more than one step. The Pidgeot was quick to try
its Whirlwind attack. But it had no effect on the Scyther. It only seemed to
enrage it. And as the Pidgeot went to use Quick Attack it was cut in half from
right wing to tail feathers. The Koffig and Weezing tried to sneak attack the
Scyther while it fought Pidgeot but were sliced in three even pieces each when
after killing the Pidgeot the Scyther pivoted and swung both of it's razor
sharp wings at and through them. The only Pokemon belonging to the gang left
now were Zubat, Cloyster and Geodude. Before further action could take place
the fat gang member called his Zubat back and fled. "COWARD!" roared his
companions.

*Thinks he can get away does he. We'll see about that.* With that thought the
black clad man rode off after the fleeing man. While he chased the cowardly
punk his Scyther used Swords Dance and Agility on itself before continuing
it's bloody assault. As soon as the Cloyster saw Scyther heading his way it
shut it's shell as tight as it could. The Scyther seeing this changed
trajectory and engaged the Geodude. It's first Slash brought a crack to the
Geodude's stone skin. Before Scyther could use Slash again Geodude attempted
to use Explosion but he was unsuccessful and paid for it with his life as
after using Sword's Dance again Scyther Slashed at Geodude and turned him into
nothing more than gravel. Scyther turned to Cloyster.

Meanwhile Scyther's trainer had caught up to the slow owner of Zubat. He was
now side by side with the fleeing man and he leapt off his Rapadash crashing
to the ground but bringing the other man with him. He stood and drew his sword
from its sheath. The toppled man grasped at his only remaining Pokeball and
got it free a moment too late. And as the sword cut through the man's neck his
Pokeball holding Zubat fell to the ground and was quickly crushed under the
foot of the nameless Pokemon trainer in black. He wiped his blade clean of
blood before putting it away and remounting to head back to where his Scyther
should have already finished it's job.

He arrived back to find that just like he expected all the Pokemon and their
trainers had been quickly and efficiently killed. The little girl, shaking and
in a small ball, stared at the Scyther as it slowly and methodically licked
the blood off of it's claws. The sound of the man and his Rapadash returning
startled here out of her fearful watch. She turned to see him dismounting his
Pokemon and heading toward her. She silently prayed that he was a nice man and
would not hurt her.

"What's your name little girl?" asked the man in a surprisingly gentle voice.

"Marie." answered the little girl fearfully.

"All right then Marie, why don't you run along and find your home. If you
want I could escort you there," said the man in the same gentle, almost
relaxing tone.

"I would but I'm lost. I know where I live though so you could take me
there.." said Marie hoping his offer to escort her hadn't been him just being
nice.

"All right where is it that you live?" asked the man this time in a firm but
still strangely gentle voice.

	"Viridian." replied Maria.

"Good. That's just a short walk from here," said the man pulling two
Pokeball's from his belt, "Scyther, Rapadash, return." In a red flash the two
Pokemon where back in there Pokeballs resting. The man helped the girl up from
where she had fallen and they began their short journey to Viridian City.
Along the way the girl built up her courage as much as she could and tried to
talk to her rescuer. Each time though images of the way he had uncaringly
sicked his Scyther on those men flashed threw her mind. Finally though she
built up her courage enough to do it.

"Um, I was wondering.... You never told me your name," said Marie in a quiet,
hesitant voice.

The man looked thoughtful for a second before answering, "That's because I am
no one. And since we will be parting soon never to see each other again why
would it matter whether or not you know my name young one?"

"I'm curious," said Marie matter of factly.

"Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt anything. My name is Jonathan Marie. Jonathan*
Gore." The little girl now satisfied and still fearful asked no more
questions.

	*********

His eyes snapped open to a thumping sound. Jonathan grabbed for his sword and
the belt carrying his Pokemon. Both were missing. He silently cursed and rose
to his feet. As silently as he could he exited his small tent to see what was
going on. When he saw he cursed aloud. A wild Pokemon had snuck into tent and
stolen his sword and belt. In a small stack next to the wild Slowpoke were his
sword, his belt, a can opener, a piece of red cloth and a large blue-ish rock.
He shook his head and picked up a rock. Aiming carefully he hit the Pokemon in
the head. And after a short 5 seconds scaring it away. He picked up his things
and went back to his tent leaving the other 3 items where they were for
whoever wanted them. As he zipped the tent and tied the zipper in place he saw
the Slowpoke peeking out from behind a bush at the can opener, clothe and
rock. He settled in and quickly fell asleep.

The morning sun peeked in through the mesh window of Jonathan's tent. He was
already awake, sitting up meditating and wearing his black armor like attire.
A loud crash sounded outside and Jonathan, his greenish black hair held in a
ponytail, opened his eyes. He stretched and a small smile dimly lit up his
face. He unzipped the door of his tent and made his exit into the morning air.
Surrounding Jonathan and his tent was a forest. A few feet into the forest a
shadowy figure could be seen. It was the source of the man's slight happiness.
His Hitmonchan had been battling with wild Pokemon all night but it had
finally learned Mega Punch. Nothing else could be expected though. The
Hitmonchan knew that if it didn't learn Mega Punch it would be best _not_ to
return to her owner. The price for failure was high but the rewards for
success was continued life and her master's favor. With what little brain
power it had the Hitmonchan decided it was worth it.

"I'm glad you were able to come back Hitmonchan. Now return to your
Pokeball," said Jonathan holding up an empty Pokeball and pressing the button
to return Hitmonchan to it's proper home. After the Hitmonchan was securely in
place he smiled a minutely larger and whispered, "Good job. Very, good job."
With a click the Hitmonchan's Pokeball was replaced on his belt.

Jonathan's left hand reached for a Pokeball grabbing the one two too the left
of Hitmonchan. With a simple twist it popped free of the specially crafted
holster. In a flash the Pokeball grew in size in the palm of his hand.
"Rapadash, I call you." With that Jonathan tossed the ball to the ground and
his loyal Rapadash burst free of its confinement. The ball returned to its
owner's hands and was put back in its place. "Wait here Rapadash." he
commanded in firm tone as he went to pack up his meager belongings. A tent,
sleeping bag, a few sets of clothes, his sword and a saddle with saddle bag to
carry it all.

Jonathan returned to where he left his Pokemon and as expected it had not
budged an inch. He smiled inwardly at how obedient his Pokemon were before
putting the saddle in place and then mounting the horse Pokemon. He looked
around thinking which way he should go. After a moment's pause he spoke to the
Rapadash. "Let's head north." And, north they went.

The hours past quickly and night soon befell Pokemon and master. Instead of
stopping the man who was once a boy who saw his entire village slaughtered
decided to press on at least for a few more hours.
