Nabiki closed the book in her hands. She had been reading the past hour or
so and was looking forward to some refreshing snack when she noticed
something and had to stop abruptly on her way towards the kitchen. 'That's
odd' Nabiki thought to herself as she slowly took a slight detour into the
dinning room. In front of the koi pond, sitting on the outside porch and
across each other, where the two heirs of the Tendo dojo. Ranma and Akane
were sitting across each other, arms folded in front and were completely
silent and unmoving, and they were looking at each other straight in the
eye. "What the hell are they doing?"

Kasumi walked past Nabiki and provided some answers to the riddle in her
head. "I think they're arguing." Nabiki looked back at her older sister,
her eyebrows rising. "Um, I could be wrong though," Kasumi whispered.
Nabiki sighed, realizing that it was now up to her to unravel the truth
between the strange behaving Ranma and Akane. Just then, a bell sounded

"Time!" Ranma shook his head, as if shaking off some discomforting pain.
Akane just wiped the palms of her hands down her face and even pressed down
the sides of her cheeks. Ranma fell back and laid down wearily on the
wooden plank porch. Akane rested her back to one of the wooden post near
her. Both looked tired, Nabiki concluded from her initial observations.
She investigated a bit further. A clock timer was on the floor and so was a
tray of snacks that obviously came from Kasumi's kitchen.

"What are you two doing this time?" Nabiki was dying to ask. No one
answered her. This made Nabiki a little bit hot under the collar, but the
sight of Akane, her eyes closed resting on her back, and that of Ranma, half
asleep down on the floor, convince Nabiki that they wouldn't even have the
strength to even look up to her at that moment. Fortunately her father was
playing shogi with Ranma's father nearby.

"Huh? Oh those two. What do you think Saotome?" Soun asked his opponent.
The oversized and mute panda just brought out a single sign that Nabiki
immediately grabbed from Genma Saotome.

"They're having an argument" Was inscribed.

"Argument? What are they arguing about? They haven't said anything all
morning. How could they be arguing?" Both her father and Genma just smiled
at Nabiki, further infuriating her. Nabiki hated being left out of things.
Most of the time she had the most secrets at her utmost disposal. But, this
'thing' between her sister and Ranma felt too important to ignore. She was
about to press on with her interrogation but the timer rang again.

"Time!" Ranma yelled out and jumped back into the position he had
maintained the whole morning. Akane crawled back to her place once again.
Then the same scene painted itself before everyone in witness. Ranma and
Akane facing each other, neither one blinking, not one wiping off the sweat
off his or her brow, their eyes locked to each other's dangerous stare.
Nabiki frowned, somehow she knew a major fight is happening in front of her,
but it wasn't a physical one. Unlike so many fights that had happened to
the dojo, to Akane and Ranma, and in so many more occasions she just
couldn't recall right now, this one was different.

Nabiki looked at her watch and then looked at both Ranma and Akane. She
even got close enough to Akane that she almost got in front of her. "Hey,
watch it, Nabiki get out of the way." Ranma yelled out, catching Nabiki off
guard. She tripped forward and eventually cross the almost insurmountable
middle ground between the two combatants.

"Ha! I win!" Akane jumped and leaped up enthusiastically, as if she had
almost been rejuvenated from a thousand year slumber. Ranma too leapt up,
but in vile protest.

"No fair. Nabiki was in the way!" Nabiki picked herself up and stared
confusingly back at Ranma and her little sister.

"Hey, you blinked! That's why you lost, Ranma! Don't blame Nabiki!" The
two were shouting at each other as they walked towards the training hall.

"Oh! Come on! She was in front of you, how could _ I _ tell if you didn't
blink yourself!" Ranma paused a bit, as Akane caught and grasped his hand
and dragged him towards the empty training hall. "Akane! This is not
fair!"

"You surprised her, Ranma. Nabiki didn't cross our sights until you shouted
at her. So technically I win!" Akane slid open the doorway, pushing the
reluctant Ranma inside.

"Shucks! Do we have to do this?" Ranma's voice faded as he disappeared
inside. Akane just giggled while she closed the door behind her. Nabiki
stood perfectly astonished by everything that had just happened.

Both Soun Tendo and Genma were at tears as they also stood witness to the
bizarre events. "Do you think he'll admit it now Saotome?"

Genma pulled out another wooden sign that only read..'He better, or we'll
have to think of another silly contest again.' Soun nodded in agreement.

"So true Saotome. I suppose if he still won't say it, we could try a
'no-sleep' contest."

The large panda popped out another sign. Do you think that's a good idea?
They might end up sleeping with each other, Tendo.' Soun just chuckled.

"Exactly, Saotome!"

-----

Nabiki was eavesdropping at the door. 'What are you two doing?' was all she
could think of.

-----

Inside, Akane was arguing with Ranma.

"Say it Ranma! I won, you lost. Now say it!"

"No way. I didn't lose. Your sister got in the way. So _you_ had outside
interference. Technically I won."

"Technical what?!"

"Hmmp. I'm not the one that'll say it. You lost, Akane."

"Why you!!" Several loud bumps and grinds was all that filled the void of
the training hall.

-----

"What the?" Nabiki knows fighting when she hears it, and one major fight
just erupted inside the training hall.

-----

When the dust settled, Akane was on top of Ranma, both exhausted and lying
on the floor.

"Why don't you just say it, Ranma?" Akane said weakly to her fianc, she
was almost in tears..

"But you lost?" Akane just pinched Ranma's arm, which was embracing her and
was the only thing near enough for her too get her hand on.

"Shut up. I won, you lost!" Akane nestled her head a bit more on Ranma's
chest, and he just embraced her a bit tighter.

"No, I think we both won." Akane looked up at Ranma's face, and was greeted
by his pleasant smile. She felt the same way. She crawled up over him and
both reached out to kiss.

-----

"Are they still in there? Dinner is getting cold?" Kasumi pleaded
uneventfully to the rest of her companions on the table.

"Let them be." Soun said as he smiled at his eldest to calm her down, then
to Genma. "I'm sure they're ironing out their differences." Both elders
smiled like they've never smiled before.

"Gee. Daddy. I hope you plan to get them married soon." Everyone looked
strangely at Nabiki. "The two of them have been awfully quiet inside
there." Genma and Soun looked at each other.

"Nabiki, you mean?" Sound saw the confidence exhumed by his daughter about
her suspicion. "Kasumi, better prepare everything for a wedding." Soun was
on his way out the door, and Genma was following suit.

"Oh, father! Where are you going this late hour?"

"I'm going to get a priest!" Soun disappeared out the door.

"I better get Nodoka!" Genma soon disappeared through the door.

Kasumi cleaned up, made a few phone calls, and made a shopping list.

"Gee. What am I suppose to do?" Nabiki thought for a moment. Just then,
a knock came through the door. "Who could that be?"

"Hi, Nabiki. I've brought this special okonomiyaki for Ran-chan. Is he
home?" Nabiki couldn't smile energetically as the guest had smiled back at
her.

"Gee. Looks like I'll be doing the dirty work." Nabiki wryly said. Ukyou
looked strangely at Nabiki.

"What do you mean, dirty?" Ukyou had to ask.

Nabiki burst out laughing.

Ranma looked discouragingly at his mirror image. "Yeash! As if the first
time wasn't bad enough." Ranma was clearly being troubled by his
memories of his first wedding. A failed and troublesome one at that,
Ranma chided to himself as he tried on the overcoat of his tuxedo. "Damn.
Well, I hope this time nothing 'untoward' happens." He sighed knowing the
futility of his meager prayer was gone to wishful thinking rather than a
visible sight of hope. "Ah! To hell with them! If they don't want me
and Akane married then I don't give a damn!" Ranma felt inspired as he
somehow mouthed those words, but he sensed feeble crying and he
immediately turned around to see who it was.

"Ranma?!" Akane, in a ravishing yet formal wedding dress, stood teary
eyed at the door. Ranma rushed up to her and was met by Akane's eager and
encouraging hug. "Oh, Ranma."

"What is it Akane?" Ranma calmly lifted his future wife's chin up,
while deftly and softly wiping the tears off her red cheeks. "Why are you
crying like that?"

"Nothing." Akane further dried the tears off with her own effort while
calming down in Ranma's embrace. "I just heard what you said, and
that..." Ranma just trussed his fingers through Akane's finely decorated
hair and beamed a confident loving smile back to her.

"I meant every word." Both were locked in each other's charming and
heartwarming stare. Ranma leaned forward and tilted his head to one side.
Akane just closed her eyes in breathless anticipation, which Ranma soon
followed with a passionate and unending kiss. It was too good to be true,
he thought.

His suspicion was right. Everything went black for him. Akane's lips
drifted away like a fluttering cloud and soon Ranma's own senses where
awakening to some new, but familiar surroundings. He blinked in the dim
darkness of the room, wiped the sleepiness from his half asleep eyes, and
tried to figure out what had just happened.

"My room? No. This is not my room." Ranma looked at the obvious clean
and organized desk and bookshelf and immediately got to that conclusion.
"Huh?" Across his chest was a lifeless limb. "Akane?" Ranma finally
looked to one side of the bed and saw his fiance, asleep with him on the
bed. But somehow the usually panic and fear didn't set in for Ranma.

He just lifted the blanket up to Akane's shoulders, and clearly she
appreciated it by stirring a bit to a more comfortable position. Her arm
was still on him, Ranma didn't care though. Somehow this time, he won't
be expecting a hammer sticking out on one end. Ranma was curious though.
There seemed to be a piece of paper upon her hand. Inquisitively, Ranma
tried to read what it had to reveal, even if only the pale moonlight allowed
him to see Akane's handwriting.

"I won again. See you in the morning." Ranma blinked, looked at Akane
and her beaming smiling sleepy face, and stared back at the piece of
paper. Ranma smiled, realizing and recalling the silly 'no-sleeping'
contest they started last night. 'Or was it two nights ago?' Ranma asked
himself honestly. "PS. In case I forget, I love you" Ranma folded the
letter and placed it under his pillow. He looked at Akane, the moonlight
softly illuminating her crimson face, and slowly yet meaningfully kissed
her on the forehead before going to sleep again. He hoped he could dream
that dream again. And he did.

Everything looked quite normal at the Tendo dojo that morning. Nabiki,
though expressionless and quite immersed at the novel she's reading, was
still sitting out on the porch overlooking the koi pond. Kasumi, the
eldest of the three Tendo sisters was, as she always does on laundry days,
hanging some clothes and linen up the clothesline. Soun Tendo and his
best friend, the panda-ish Genma Saotome were busy in another one of their
unforgiving and unending game of shogi. Things looked right in the world.

"Haah! I win again, Saotome." Soun exclaimed another triumph over Genma,
as the old panda could only feel his head in frustration. "Shall we play
another?" Genma reached for a wooden board lying on one side of the
gameboard and raised it to Soun delight. "This time you can go first."

"Oh, father. Have you seen Akane this morning?" Kasumi lifted the empty
basket off the ground and was on her way back to get the next load. "Or
Ranma? I haven't seen them since breakfast."

Nabiki looked a quick glance off her book, but decided it wasn't worth the
effort to answer her sister's question. Instead she took a sip of
lemonade that she made in the kitchen a while back and promptly returned
to her reading. Kasumi didn't get any answers too from her father, nor
Mr. Saotome. So she decided to ask Nabiki directly. This time Nabiki
couldn't ignore her. "They could be sleeping again, I think." Kasumi was
surprised to realize it was already mid morning and still both her little
sister and Ranma were still asleep. Nabiki knew there was more to it, but
she felt Kasumi wouldn't really understand. "Why don't you wake them?"
Kasumi returned her basket before climbing up the stairs.

-----

"Akane?" Kasumi gently knocked on her sister's door. "Ranma?" Finally
she decided to take a peek. When she couldn't see anything, she opened
the door a bit more. Nothing, Kasumi just prodded herself inside. "Where
could they be?" Kasumi climbed down and headed towards the kitchen.
Surprisingly both Akane and Ranma where there. "There you are."

"Huh? Oh. Hi Kasumi." Akane smiled back at Kasumi, and so did Ranma.
Kasumi looked over to what the two had been doing all morning in her
kitchen.

"What are you two doing here? What are those?" Kasumi sat down with them
and inspected a few of the photos scattered all over the kitchen table.
"Oh, Akane. Isn't this the time when we were on that trip to Ryugenzawa?"
Akane confirmed Kasumi's suspicion and quickly took the picture away from
her.

"Eh, I don't think we need that picture anymore." Kasumi saw a certain
sadness in Akane's eyes.

"Is there something wrong?" Ranma was ignoring both women, as he was
digging through a lot of old pictures from a few bundles in front of him.
Kasumi wasn't content in Akane's simple "nothing". "Akane you could tell
me." Akane just smiled and again said there was nothing wrong.

"Hey, there's nothing to be ashamed of, Akane." Both girls looked at
Ranma, who was again rummaging through some pictures. "You can't deny
that it happened." Kasumi blinked, only asking in a serene tone what
happened.

"Ranma? What are you talking about?" Fortunately Ranma didn't see Akane
glaring at him.

"You know, you and that Shinnosuke dude." Ranma grimaced as he can't
seem to find any satisfying picture. "Where are those pictures?"

Kasumi looked at Akane suspiciously. Akane was denying it, though she
wasn't sure what she was denying at all. Just then Nabiki entered the
kitchen, a book under her arms, and an empty glass in another hand.

"Nothing happened between us, Ranma. You know that." Akane voiced out.
Nabiki was instantly aroused by the sudden tone in Akane's conversation.
"Nothing happened between me and Shinnosuke."

"So what with this Shinnosuke? Isn't he the one you met in Ryugenzawa,
Akane?" Nabiki joined in after filling her glass with some more lemonade.
Kasumi looked back and forth, only getting confusing signals and some weird
ideas popping in her head.

"Nothing, really!" Ranma finally stopped looking for pictures as he
finished scouring through the last bundle of pictures he had. Akane
frowned a bit as Nabiki was egging her to tell her tale. "Nabiki!
Nothing of the sort happened." Kasumi was getting a headache.

"Damn, where are those pictures?"

"So, was this Shinnosuke guy any cute?" Nabiki sipped some lemonade,
enjoying profusely Akane's temperamental side. "Hey, don't get angry. It
was only a question."

"Excuse me. Can anyone tell me what's going on?" Kasumi pleaded to all
three who were on the table.

"It's Ranma's fault. He had to bring it up!" Akane yelled, an accusing
finger pointing at her fiance. Ranma voiced out his protest. Nabiki just
grinned, realizing all four were having quite a animated conversation.
Kasumi calmed both Ranma and Akane down.

"Sorry." Akane looked at her fiance, seeing how apologetic Ranma was also
to her older sister. "All I can say is that, nothing happened, ok." Ranma
just blinked.

"Of course nothing happened to you. You're still alive..." Just then it
struck Ranma, "What were we talking about anyway?" Akane and Ranma realized
they got there signals crossed. "You mean to tell me you where talking
about..." Kasumi held her breath and Nabiki was all ears. Akane realized
her mistake.

"What? What were you talking about? BAKA!" She yelled again.

"Hey, there's nothing to be ashamed of from getting lost, Akane. It happens
to everyone." Ranma saw how Akane was feeling embarrassed right now. "So
what the hell were YOU talking about?"

"Nothing." Akane replied. Nabiki almost choked, while Kasumi felt
relieved. Ranma had to think a bit more before feeling slightly embarrassed
himself.

"Oh." Ranma chuckled a bit. "Well, that's what you get for having a great
time last night." Nabiki, though in most circumstances she would have held
her poise, that little outburst from Ranma made her less mannered than she
usually was.

"What?" Nabiki apologized profusely for getting Kasumi a bit wet, but that
didn't stop her from digging for the juicy story behind Ranma's revelation.
"You mean...." Kasumi was toweling herself dry and wasn't really listening.
Akane was turning her attention to some of the pictures in front of her.

"It's not any of your business, Nabiki." Ranma just shot a grin towards
Akane, who couldn't help giggle back. Nabiki just paused to think. Her
imagination was getting too creative for words right now. "So let's see
those pictures, Akane."

"Wait! Were are yours?" Akane demanded. Ranma then realized he had none
to show. Akane refused to give Ranma the pictures in her hand. "Oh, no.
No pictures, you lose." Ranma frown, as he muttered a bit realizing how's
he going to lose this time as well.

"Damn. Ok you win. Can I see those pictures now?" Ranma pleaded. Akane
giggled, but she just hid the snapshots in her dress anyway. "Hey!"

"Sorry, you better wait until we get married, Ranma." Akane helped Ranma
and Kasumi clear the table, while Nabiki was still at lost sitting in her
chair. "They are great pictures, you know." Ranma growled his frustration
as Akane continued to tease him. Kasumi decided not to get herself into a
conversation she didn't really understand.

"Damn, Mom must have all my baby pictures." Ranma chided to himself as he
left the room with Akane.

"Well, I'm sure I was more cute as a baby than you." Akane just giggled,
Ranma couldn't help sigh. "What do you think?"

"Why don't you show them to me, and I'll tell you who has the better
looking baby picture?" Akane flatly refused, feeling somewhere in her
dress where she had hid her own baby pictures. "Oh, yeah. What if I get
them myself?" Akane realized what Ranma wanted to do.

"You wouldn't dare?!"

"Oh yeah?!" Akane rushed up the stairs up to her room, Ranma following in
hot pursuit. "I've got you now, Akane!"

"Ranma, don't you dare!" They both barged into Akane's room. "Ranma!
Get your hands off me." Ranma grinned as he gained some advantage, as he
was able to grab hold of both of Akane hands. He soon got her into a
corner. "Ranma!" He wasn't really trying his best to get his hands on
those pictures, he just loved these silly games he played with her.
"Ranma if you don't let go of me, I'll scream!" Ranma did as he was asked
to.

"Geez. Would you have really screamed, Akane?" Ranma asked. Akane just
laughed.

"Of course not. But it wouldn't be normal." Both just slumped on Akane's
bed, laughing out heartily, At the same time they spent the whole morning
looking at some old photographs.

-----

"Nabiki, are you alright?" Kasumi sat across the kitchen table looking
worried at her sister.

"Huh? What? Oh, I'm fine." Nabiki finished her glass of lemonade.

"You know they were only teasing you." Kasumi said. Nabiki just nodded.

"I know." Nabiki just sighed.

"I just hope father would stop coming up with these silly games for Ranma
and Akane to compete in." Kasumi looked at some photographs that was left
on the table.

"Me too. They're starting to act too weird." Nabiki looked at a
photograph too. "Hey, isn't this the carnival we went to?" Kasumi just
smiled.

Ranma knew something like this would happen. He wasn't a bit surprised
that morning when he woke up and discovered he had been gagged and tied up
in bed. Something like this happened to him before, but that time it was
a tuxedo that surprised him. The ropes that binded his hands behind his
back were tight and secure. But it didn't really bothered him that he
couldn't use his arms. It was the bindings at his feet that were killing
him. Not only was he tied poorly at his ankles, he swore he couldn't feel
anything beneath the gorgonian like knot above his heels. Good thing
Kasumi stopped by his room and loosened it a bit for him. Surprisingly,
she didn't free him completely and even gave a word of advice. "This is
for your own good, Ranma." Kasumi had said to him. Ranma was definitely
in trouble now. If Kasumi wouldn't help him, who will?

"Morning, Ranma." Akane sat beside her struggling fianc and had brought
with her a tray of breakfast. "Comfy?" Ranma glared at her with an
obvious hint of anger in his eyes. "Don't worry. This will all be over
before lunch." Ranma tried to protest, but to no avail. "Come, let me
take that gag of you so you can eat." Akane reached over and tried to
untie the piece of cloth around Ranma's head. Intentional or not,
Ranma's head was buried in her lap. "There." Ranma gasped for some stale
air and he wanted to scream at the top of his lung. But, Akane's soft and
gentle stroking of his hair made him hesitate. "Don't get angry, Ranma.
It'll be for your own good."

"What does that mean anyway? For my own good?" Ranma rolled over and now
he was staring right up to Akane. "Kasumi didn't even help me this
morning."

"Why would she? She half-planned all of this." Ranma couldn't believe
what he had heard. Good old Kasumi, turned bad? It was horrifying to
even consider. "Anyway, the important thing to remember is that I'll
fight for you, no matter what." Akane giggled and kissed the tip of
Ranma's nose. Ranma tried to kiss back, but being in an inverted position
and had no way of lifting himself up Akane's lap, he decided otherwise and
just kiss Akane on the forehead, the nearest part of her his lips could
reach. "See, you're all better now."

-----

"Shampoo didn't come here to play games." The young amazon girl flatly
protested Nabiki's conditions. "I came to win Ranma, not play stupid
games."

Nabiki grinned at her untrusting guest and tried to explain herself.
"That's just it. To win Ranma, you have to win in this game,"

Another young woman, carrying a huge spatula on her back, walked up to the
two. "Since when is Ran-chan ever a prize in a silly contest?" It was
Kasumi's turn to answer.

"Ukyou, please. This is for Ranma's own good," Ukyou and Shampoo stared
at Kasumi, "if he won't settle this. We'll have to settle this for
ourselves." Everyone fell silent for no one really knew what else to say
about it. Ranma was finally being raffled off to whoever wins in a
contest the two elder Tendo sisters had conjured up.

"I'm ready." Akane came down the stairs, carrying with her a helpless
Ranma. "Are we starting yet?"

"Nope, we've still got a couple of our friends to wait for." Nabiki led
everyone towards the training hall. Inside, chairs were set up for each
of the contestants and with each a small rectangular piece of blackboard
and several chalk sticks. Both Soun Tendo and Genma Saotome were already
waiting inside. Nodoka was standing in one corner and was manning what
looked liked a tally board.

"Is everyone here?" Nabiki answered her father's question. "Who else are
we waiting for?"

"OHOHOHOHO!! Ranma-sama! Where are you?" Everyone cringed at the
despicable laughter that could only belong to Kodachi Kuno. Nabiki
instructed everyone to grab a seat so that the contest for Ranma could
start. Ranma was placed in front of everyone to see for the whole
duration of the contest..

"My god? What are they trying to do?" Ranma asked himself. "They're not
going to do what I think they're doing?" Ranma looked around. When he
saw his own mother supervising the scoring, he almost fainted. "Ack! My
own mother! Betraying me! NO!" He came to tears.

"Ranma? What's wrong boy?" Genma slapped his son on the back to no avail.
Ranma was losing it. His sanity, mostly.

"Um, prey tell Nabiki. But, what am I doing sitting here with these
women?" Kuno turned to Akane. "Not that I do not enjoy the company and
such, fair Akane." Akane just bopped Tatewaki on the head.

"Why, isn't it obvious?" Nabiki devilishly grinned at Kuno, but still
Tatewaki failed to make the connection with the prize and his purpose
sitting among the contestants.

Kasumi nodded to Nabiki and the young host of the contest signaled for
the start of the tournament. Kasumi brought out a piece of document for
everyone to sign. Nabiki waited for each contestant to sign the piece of
paper being handed around before turning on her karaoke.

"Testing, one, two." Nabiki cleared her voice. "Thank you everyone for
coming to the one time, Win Ranma Contest of the Tendo School of Anything
Goes Martial Arts dojo." Everyone tried to clap in appreciation. Ranma
started to bap his head on the wooden floor but was stopped from further
injury by Soun and Genma. "Kasumi, will you please explain the mechanics
of this contest."

The oldest of the Tendo sisters walked up in front and grabbed the
microphone from her sister. "As you may have noticed that you all have
signed a piece of paper a while ago. That document is a legal contract
for all parties concerned." A few eyebrows raised. "This only means
that, who ever wins this contest, gets Ranma. While the losers will not
anymore interfere." An uproar from the very people in front of Kasumi was
heard.

"What do you mean, not interfere? What if violent girl wins stupid
contest, or spatula war-freak over there?" Shampoo shot a glare at Ukyou.

"Hey! Whom are you calling war-freak? Bimbo!"

"I think she meant you, Ukyou"

"Shut up! Kitchen destroyer!"

"Hey!"

"What about me?!! OHOHOH! What about me?!"

"Oh, woe is me. What am I, Blue Thunder or Furinkan high, doing in such
stupendous surroundings?"

It was turning to be quite a riot inside the training hall. And there was
only one thing left to do to calm everyone. Whack!! One of the empty
chairs broke in half. "Ladies, settle down. You know very well my son
should have one of you. But his indecision had caused so much pain for
everyone. So to settle it all, those that truly love and knows my son
will be his true fiance, and the one he'll marry." Everyone froze, not
by what Nodoka had said, but the image of the katana blade in front of
them. Ranma fell face forward shocked at what he heard.

"Marry? I do not, nor ever dreamt to marry that idiot. Nabiki why am I
here?" Tatewaki tried to stand up but was held down by Nabiki.

"Sit down, Kuno. Or I won't tell you where your precious pig-tailed
goddess is." Kuno fell back into his chair and muttered something about
his weakness at being bribed. "Good."

-----

Everything was ready for the start of the contest. Ryoga had finally
showed up and took his place as the official timer. Mousse and Cologne
joined Nabiki, Soun and Genma as the official group of answer readers.
Kasumi took her place as the question reader, while Dr. Tofu had in his
hands the answers to these intriguing trivia's about Ranma.

"As some of you may already know. Ranma answered my slam book, where he
placed his honest answers to some typical questions like, who is his
favorite singer, color. etc." Everyone was surprised as Ranma to learn of
the questions involved in the contest. "But there is more, not so typical
questions too that he answered for me. I got him to answer them because I
intentionally told him that his answers won't turn public. Of course I
lied, which is probably the first time. But its for a good cause. And,
Dr. Tofu has those answers in his hands." Kasumi smiled at the kind
doctor holding her slam book. However, Tofu freezed up as usual. "Oh,
my."

It took a couple of more minutes for Tofu to recover before everything was
ready. Kasumi brought out her cue cards and read the first question.

-----

And so, the contest began with Kasumi asking question after question from
her slam book. Each girl fighting for Ranma tried to answer her simple
trivia about the man that they love. Like, who was Ranma's first kiss...of
course Mrs. Saotome, but the other questions kept everyone guessing and
guessing.

Kuno still didn't get a clue, nor will he ever. Ukyou knew Ranma the
longest, so she had a big lead with the First Time type of questions. But
Shampoo knew most of the First Places Ranma had been in his life. It was
Akane that really had the hardest time keeping up.

Several interruption happened, with each girl protesting the answered read
by Dr. Tofu, but a quick glance at the handwriting on the pages of the slam
book quelled the tension a bit.

-----

Ranma looked nervously at the tally board. It turned out as a close
fight.

Only Kodachi was out of the fight with only a few correct answers.
Shampoo was only a few points behind Akane, but it was Ukyou who had the
lead. Kasumi was nearing her last few questions and it was only a matter
of time. Akane was glancing back at Ranma and she could see and feel the
sadness in her fiance's eyes. Genma and Soun too were on the edge. They
couldn't believe what was happening. Ukyou, though was cheering herself
and was even joined in by Ryoga. Nabiki, though, was calm and collected.

"Ok. The question is..." Ranma couldn't stand the tension. His life was
hanging on this last question. "Who do you love?"

Everyone flinched, forgetting to write anything on their answer boards and
all but Nabiki stared at the kind doctor sitting in front of everyone.

"Well, Dr. Tofu. What did Ranma answer to this last question?" Everyone
held their breath.

-----

Hours later, Ranma was sitting out on the porch overlooking the fish pond.
Akane was with him, leaning against his shoulder.

"I guess I owe Nabiki big time." Ranma winced at the memories of that
morning. Akane smiled, knowing what he had gone through.

"You also owe Kasumi, too." Ranma nodded in agreement. Akane lifted
Ranma's arm and he obliged by holding her in a warm embrace. "I just hope
everyone abides by the contract." Ranma wanted the same.

"Funny, though. I don't remember that question in Kasumi's mischievous
book." Akane stared at Ranma in surprise. Ranma smiled and kissed her.

It was often called the graveyard shift, but then again, it wasn't that
unusual for someone to still be awake so late in the evening, a few hours
just before the sun would finally show up over Nerima. This is so true at
only one place, the Tendo dojo. When all of the neighborhood was fast
asleep, things could just be picking up inside the Tendo Anything Goes
School of Martial Arts dojo. If fact, this was one of those nights.

Ranma slid open the door and walked out towards the hallway. He fumbled to
recover his bearing right after bumping at the walls a few times. He rubbed
his eyes, the darkness greeted him. He climbed down the stairs, taking his
time lest he wanted to roll down the steps in a really painful way. He
turned towards the kitchen, warding the cloth that served as its door.

"Oh, Ranma. What are you doing up?" Kasumi looked at the sleepyhead boy
that had appeared through the kitchen drapes. Ranma, though, was obviously
still unaware of the question as he continued his lazy stride towards the
refrigerator door. He did have enough sense though to acknowledge Kasumi's
presence when he motioned for Kasumi to ignore him. "What's wrong?"

The fridge door swung open and Ranma dropped his head in, scouring for food
among the contents inside. "Nothing, Kasumi. I'm just hungry."

Nabiki, the other person sitting at the kitchen table tapped her older
sister. "Ignore him, Kasumi. Let's get back into the game." Kasumi did as
she was asked, placing down a ten of hearts on the table in front of her
sister. "My, my." Nabiki reached for the catch.

"Oh, my. I think I made a bad move." Kasumi whispered. Nabiki grinned,
laying out her cards on the table.

"All right, Full house." Nabiki leaned back, a smile showing proudly on her
face. "Too bad, Kasumi."

Ranma sat and joined the two. "What do you have, Kasumi?" He leaned on one
side to sneak a peak, He didn't have to, though as Kasumi laid them out for
everyone to see.

"I only have these." Ranma was shocked. But it was Nabiki's horrified
expression that topped it all. "I don't know if I should call it a straight
hand, or a flush." Kasumi looked up, the look on her companion's faces
surprised her. "Did I do something wrong?"

Nabiki lowered her head, still in disbelief at her humiliating loss. Ranma
leaned back. "Wow, a royal flush. Where did you get that?" Kasumi giggled
a bit. She revealed a small stack of cards that she had on her lap.
"Kasumi? I'm shocked."

Nabiki was furious. "What the hell where you doing? You've been cheating
on me?" Kasumi smiled, drowning the angry stare by her sister. "Kasumi?"

"But, Nabiki. You also have a stack with you. You always do." That made
Nabiki twitch. Ranma laughed, and was soon followed by Kasumi.

"Very funny!" Nabiki sat back down, her arms crossed in silent protest. "I
never..."

Ranma finished the glass of milk he got from the fridge and bade goodbye to
the two sisters. He didn't bother to look back, knowing that the two would
again be playing. He knew that Nabiki wasn't going to stay angry for long.
He was almost sure that Nabiki wouldn't have reacted the way she did if he
wasn't there to witness how she had lost. Nabiki was the trickster, but
against the master, she was still the learner. Ranma knocked at the door.

"Is that you, Ranma?" The door slid open and he entered. Akane was sitting
on his bed, a solitaire of cards laid out in front of his fiancee. "Aren't
you sleepy yet?" Akane swung her head. "Gee." Ranma sat at his father's
bed, rolling the panda over one side so he had enough room to sleep.

"This game is really fun! I love it!" Akane dealt out three cards from a
stack she had in her hand. She looked at the cards in front of her. Ranma
had lied down already. He looked at Akane, she dealt three more cards.

"Why don't you deal one card at a time?" Akane didn't bother to look at
him.

"I'm doing it, Las-Vegas style." She said. Ranma muttered something that
Akane failed to notice. He turned around. "I think." Akane confessed, not
really knowing the hand or style." It didn't matter though, solitaire was
slow and sweet, simple yet satisfying. She loved it.

"Goodnight, Akane." That made her look. Ranma had his back towards her.
She looked down at her cards. She was almost through with the hand she had
dealt. But something was wrong, she knew it. She gathered all the cards,
not bothering to finish the game. She stood up, brushed off any mess she
might have left on the bed. "Ranma? I'm finished now. You can sleep here
now." He didn't respond. She knelt over at him. He was past asleep
already. For her, there was one thing left to do.

-----

That morning, Ranma slowly opened his eyes. But something was on his face,
he noticed it immediately and took the card off him. He sat up, groggy
still. He looked at the card. "King of Hearts? What's this doing here?"
He thought that his fiancee must have left her stack of cards on his bed
again. That was when he remembered that he didn't sleep in his bed last
night. But he was on his bed. He stood up, hoping to clean up the rest of
the stack of cards that he was expecting. He was surprised to see nothing,
only one card and he had it in his hand.

He walked out of his room and promptly knocked at Akane's room. It opened
freely. He hesitated to look inside, an instinct and from experience on his
part. Akane was still in bed, probably exhausted from all that card playing
from last night, he thought. A voice calling for breakfast came from
downstairs. Ranma was about to leave when he realized what he had to do.
When he reached over at Akane to wake her, a single card on his fiancee's
hand made him hesitate. "Don't tell me?" He reached for the card. "Yup.
Queen of Hearts." He looked at her, still fast asleep. Ranma bended over
and whispered something in her ear. "Wake up, my queen." No sooner had he
said that, Akane started to stir. She looked up, pleasantly surprised at
the sight of Ranma hovering over her.

"Good morning, Ranma."

"Kasumi is already calling for breakfast." Akane sat up, stretching away
the stiffness in her body.

"Thanks." Akane waited for her fiance to leave the room before rising off
her bed. While in the closet, the door opened again. She didn't see who it
was, but two cards thrown from there gave her a hint. The pair landed
softly on her bed. "Gee. I wonder what he is thinking right now?" She
giggled before returning to her closet, choosing a dress for that morning.

Before she left the room, Akane picked up the King and Queen of Hearts. "I
should need these later."

-----

Downstairs, shouts were coming from the breakfast table. Akane walked in
surprisingly to discover Ranma and the rest of the family in heated debate.

"I didn't do it, honest!" Ranma pleaded to everyone. He was the focus of
the accusation being thrown all over the room.

"Oh, yeah? How do you explain this?!" Nabiki held out two cards. A Queen
of Diamonds and a Joker. "This was on my face this morning." Ranma
protested, declaring his innocence. Soun and Genma too held out cards. A
King of Spade and another Joker was the two cards Soun held, while Genma
only had the Queen of Clubs with him.

"Are you trying to be funny, boy?" Genma crushed the card in his hand. "I
know that I have problems in dealing with your dear mother, Ranma. But you
don't have to rub it in!" Ranma continued to deny the accusations.

"Thanks Ranma." Kasumi held out all four aces in her hand. She handed Ranma
a special plate, filled with food towards him.

"I see. You wanted favors in exchange for these, eh?" Soun crushed the
cards, crying as well as he displayed his disappointment. "Ranma! You
are...so..."

Akane heard enough. She sat down and held out her own card. "Look Daddy.
See what Ranma gave me." Everyone looked. Nabiki was the first to smile,
Soun and Genma began to cry as well. The moment was too moving for them.
Kasumi expressed her delight at the cards Akane held. "I hope you guys just
stop picking on Ranma."

Nabiki was the first to apologize, though Ranma was still baffled by
everyone's sudden change. "I'm sorry Ranma. I...guess you meant well."
Soun and Genma followed suit, even hugging their son to the point of
choking.

"Oh, Ranma. I'm so happy! You do love Akane!"

"Ranma my boy! This is proof. I'm so proud of you! You're now a man among
men." Ranma finally got the upperhand and threw both men off the room.
Both landed on the fish pond happily. Ranma screamed a bit, cursing both of
them for their childish attitude. Akane stared for a minute before standing
up.

"Thanks Ranma." Akane grabbed his arm, laughing at the two grown ups
groping in crawling out of the fish pond. Ranma sighed, heaving a breath
after a tremendous battle.

"Akane, can you do me a favor?"

"Sure, you deserve it. What is it?"

"Next time, play solitaire in your room. Ok?" Akane leaned into him,
smiling
at the same time.

Kasumi and Nabiki walked up to them, joining the two as they enjoyed seeing
their parents fumble to get their feet dry. "So, Akane. You liked the game
I taught you last night?" Kasumi asked. Akane nodded in reply, gently
squeezing on Ranma's arm.

"Gee. Solitaire is no fun. You better try poker, Akane. It's worth it."
Nabiki didn't see Akane's reaction. Ranma knew how Akane felt. It was only
a game for Nabiki, but to Akane it was everything.
