The Nerima Returners
Volume 1
Part 3: No More Ranma.
"What you mean Shampoo no allowed see Ranma for month?" The amazon
glared at Akane menacingly indicating that if she didn't have a good
reason then she'd have to fight.
Akane sighed, she'd been expecting this kind of reaction. "The doctors
said that it would be best if she only encountered a minimum exposure to
people while she was still healing. After the month is over; you, Ukyou,
Kodachi or anyone else who wants to see her may."
Since everyone had been calling Ranma a her it didn't seem odd that she
continued to do so. The real reason they weren't letting anyone see
Ranma, although the medical reason was true aswell, is that where she'd
lost her memory, a lot of things were different. For one thing, she
actually thinks that she's a girl. Another is, while having lost her
memory, she still remembers a lot of her attack. How this happened was
still a mystery, but who knew what she might do if someone got her
angry. Nabiki had also pointed out that anyone could try to give Ranma
false memories.
"Hmph! Alright, stupid-tomboy girl. See you in month. And if you try
pull funny stuff on airen, you face wrath of amazon warrior." With that,
Shampoo turned on heal and went back inside the Nekohanten.
Even though Akane had to suppress the urge to go and smack Shampoo
upside the head, she had to admit that that had gone better that with
the others, which was surprising. Kodachi had thought it was a trick,
until Akane finally managed to convince her to call the doctors, and
attacked her. Ukyou had argued relentlessly, but gave into Akane's
stubborn determination. Though, not before she made a threat that was
similar to Shampoo's. Kuno understood right away, but went into spouting
an endless poetry about the tragedy of being separated from his love.
Even after Kasumi's explanation of the curse, he still didn't get it. He
understood how it worked, but managed to warp what it did. He believed
that the curse made Ranma switch minds aswell as bodies, and no one
could convince him otherwise. As Akane headed back towards the dojo, she
recalled back to the hospital.
<*Flashback*>
"You mean you don't remember who you are?" Akane asked pleadingly, as
if it would cause the redhead to remember.
"Nno I ddon't. Who are you? Whwhere am I? I don't remember
anything!" The girl broke into sobs, her shoulders heaving.
Nodoka sat next to Ranma and put her arm around the girls shoulders.
"Ssh," she said soothingly, " It'll be all right. You'll remember
eventually."
"Sniff, sniff... Aare you my mother?" Her sobs had started to quiet
down and only came out as small sniffles now.
"Yes, I'm your mother. Don't worry, you'll be okay." She was soothing
the girl and was finally able to get her to calm down.
Ranma looked over towards Akane now. " Are you my sister?" She looked
inquisitive, but still sad.
"No, you don't have a sister. I'm one of your..." Nodoka had placed a
hand over her mouth.
"Excuse us for a moment, please. I must talk with Akane for a minute,"
she said as she pulled Akane to a corner of the room. "I don't think
that we should go into the curse and the fiance's. Let's keep to the
basics that don't involve the supernatural. That way we won't scare
her." Nodoka and Akane went back over to Ranma's bed.
"I'm one of your friends, Akane." She said this with a sad smile,
remembering one of the things she had said to Ranma when he had first
arrived. 'I'm Akane, want to be friends?'
One of the doctors, at this point, arrived to check up on Ranma. He was
quite surprised to see the girl sitting up and talking to Nodoka and
Akane. They explained to the doctor that Ranma had amnesia. Dr. Mizuno
asked them if they would talk to Ranma while she went and consulted the
other doctors at the hospital about this new turn of events. It was now
the Akane began to explain to Ranma about her life. How she was a great
martial artist and went on tons of adventures. It was as if she was
explaining Ranma to a transfer student instead of to Ranma herself.
"I don't really like the name 'Ranma'," the girl with that name stated
a bit too calmly. "It's a boy's name. I'm a girl. Akane had to stifle a
bitter laugh at that. It seems that Ranma's new quote would be 'I'M A
GIRL!!' instead of 'I'M A GUY!!'.
"Ranma, we'll talk about your name later," her mother assured her, "but
now that you've been up for a bit and have had time to think, can you
tell us if you remember anything, anything at all?"
Ranma seemed to think for a while and then began to speak. "Well, okay.
I'll try. I remember punching things really fast, um... I remember
creating a whirlwind or something like that, I uh... think I remember
shooting off a glowing ball, and for some reason the image of a sledge
hammer sticks to my mind." Akane blushed a bit at that. Ranma thought a
bit more. "I'm sorry," she told them, "I don't remember anything else."
Then her eyes widened. "What's THAT?!" Akane and Nodoka followed her
gaze and saw that she was looking towards a small wrinkled old man that
was glaring lecherously at her.
"How did you get in here you old pervert?!" Surprisingly enough, this
cry didn't come from Akane, but Nodoka.
"Ah, Nodoka-chan! Come to papa..." he trailed off as he leapt towards
the group of girls. He was stopped short, though, when he met both
Akane's and Nodoka's feet.
Seeing that they both suffered the same problem, Nodoka turned to Akane
and said, "You do the honours, Akane."
"Why thank-you Auntie," Akane said with a fake smile. With that, Akane
punted the stunted master pervert out the window and into the
atmosphere. Meanwhile, Ranma was shaking, whether from rage or fear, no
one could tell.
***************
The doctors had soon after that incident asked both Akane and Nodoka to
go home and get some rest while they did some tests on Ranma. It wasn't
until the next day that they got a chance to go back to the hospital.
When they got there, they found out that Ranma had healed enough and
had gone to the hospitals gym. This surprised both Akane and Ranma's
mother. When they reached the gym they stared at Ranma in shock. She was
in there alone performing some of the more complicated katas that Ranma
knew!
"Mouko Takabisha!" she cried out, as she sent a small chi blast
hurtling towards the wall. Since it was small and she was far away from
the opposite wall, it dissipated before reaching it.
"Oh, hello Akane, Mother. I felt the need to get rid of some access
energy I had built up. When I came down here I started to do those katas
on instinct. Ranma knew some pretty impressive moves.
Akane, in an uncontrolled spout of anger, walked up to the memory less
Ranma and slapped her. "You are Ranma you idiot!" she yelled.
She was so used to Ranma's movements before the fall, she never saw the
hand coming until it connected to her face in a loud slap. A pressing
silence followed.
Ranma looked straight into her face when she said her next words. "I'll
probably never be 'Ranma' again! Get use to it. He's dead!" Having said
that she walked off.
<*End Flashback*>
As Akane walked through the gates of the dojo, she subconsciously
rubbed her cheek. Then she remembered that today was the day they had
renamed the girl in Ranma's body. It sent shivers down her spine to
think that the only thing still left of her fiance was about to be
taken away.
"Akane!" Kasumi called out. She ran up to her sister to tell her some
obviously important news since Kasumi never called out or ran. "Akane,"
she said again, but this time quieter, "Ranma spilled some tea on
herself while she was out."
The youngest Tendo's eyes widened at the implication of what had
happened. "You mean she knows about the curse now?"
Kasumi shook her head at this. "No, that's just it. Nothing happened.
Ranma, such as she is, doesn't change into a boy anymore!"
After that was said, Akane's mind overloaded and decided to take a
vacation. Peace came over her as she blacked out.
