THE TABLES HAVE TURNED PART 2
Serena walked home, debating what to do. <Should I call Darien and tell him? Should I have Rei do it?> She sat there thinking about it for a while before she finally made a decision. <No, its got to be me who tells him.>
Serena walked over to the phone and began to dial Darien's number. Right before she dialed the last digit, she began to over analyze the situation. "Wait a minute, what do I tell him? Hello, this is Serena and you have a brother? No, that sounds stupid, what do I say?"
When she finally figured it out, she heard her parents come in. "Oh well, I can do this later," Serena set the phone back on the hook.
"Hi mom, hi dad," Serena greeted as her parents walked in the door.
"Hello dear. Would you like to go out to dinner with us?" her mother replied.
"Sure! Why do you want to go out?" Serena answered enthusiastically.
"I don't feel like cooking and we haven't gone out to eat as a family for a while," Mrs. Tsukino explained.
"Okay, let's go," Serena headed for the door.
"Let us put these groceries away first," so Serena waited at the door. They finished in the kitchen and Serena pushed them out the door.
"I see someone is eager to go," Serena's dad commented as he got into the driver's seat.
They drove to a local restaurant and went in. As they were waiting to be seated, Serena saw Darien, sitting all alone in a corner. At least she was pretty sure it was him, he was sitting in the darkness.
The figure raised his glass to his lips and finished off the drink. <Oh no! He's going to come straight this way to leave!> Despite her worries, the man had no intentions of leaving.
Darien sat in the corner, trying to shroud himself in darkness. He had been there all night, slowly drinking away his troubles. The waitress came over to his table, "Get me another."
"Don't you think you've had enough, sir?" the waitress knew he was all ready well over the legal limit.
"Listen, I'll tell you when I've had enough. Now bring me another, damnit!" his voice rose steadily as he spoke.
"Okay, okay, I'll be right back," the waitress did not want to call attention to the man.
As she left, he looked around at all the people in the restaurant. He spotted Serena sitting with her family. The waitress came back with another drink. "You see that girl there?" he pointed to Serena. "Take her a chocolate milkshake and put it on my bill."
"Yes sir," the waitress left and did as she was told. When she took the shake over to Serena she explained, "That man over there in the corner wanted me to bring this to you."
Her whole family looked at Darien. "Do you know that boy, Serena?" her father questioned.
"Maybe," Serena wanted to run away. <Why'd I have to be so insistant on going to dinner?> She watched in horror as Darien stood up, and began walking over to her, nearly tipping over. His drunkeness was very apparrent, as he clumsily made his way over to her table. By this time, everyone in the establishment was staring at him.
"Come on Darien, don't embarrass yourself. We can go back over to your table and talk," Serena pleaded.
"I won't embarrass me, and if you're afraid of being embarrassed just come out and say it!" his drunken laugh that followed the remark made Serena cringe.
"Honestly, I need to talk to you in private," she stood up, grabbed his arm and pulled his drunken body back over to the table in the corner. "Now sit down and listen to me."
He picked up the glass the waitress had brought over. Darien was about to take another drink when Serena, who could easily overpower him at this point, slammed it back down.
"What's wrong with you? You're certainly not the Darien I know. The Darien I know is too responsible to go out and get drunk!" she did her best not to bring any more attention to them.
"What's wrong with me? I think the real question is what's wrong with you? I thought you loved me!"
Before he could continue Serena interrupted, "I don't want to talk about it right now."
"When will you want to talk about it?" even though he was drunk, Darien could still tell that Serena was trying to skirt the subject.
"Listen, the whole reason I wanted to talk to you was to tell you about your brother," Serena saw him reaching for his glass so she pulled it off the table.
"C'mon, give me my drink back," he reached for it but she pulled it even further back.
"Did you even hear what I said? I said you have a brother!" Serena shouted and the rest of the restaurant got suddenly quiet.
She could feel everyone's eyes focusing on her. So, Serena turned around and returned the stares. As she did, all the people went back to eating their food and talking to the other people at their tables.
"You must be drunk too, I don't have a brother," Darien stared at her in disbelief.
"I give up!" Serena threw her hands up in fustration. "Call me when you're sober and I'll explain it to you then."
She stormed back over to the table where her family was seated. They had been watching the whole scene. "Can we go home?"
Her father left more than enough to pay the bill and they all went out to the car. As he drove them home, Mr. Tsukino realized where he had seen that drunken man before. <He's the man from Renie's hospital room! Good thing Renie's spending the night with a friend.> he wanted to ask Serena questions, he wanted to find out who this guy was.
MEANWHILE:
Darien reached across the table and picked up the glass from where Serena had left it. He had not really heard what Serena had said. Once he finished that glass, he paid and went out to his car. Darien climbed in his red ferrari and reached in his pocket to get his keys. They weren't there, he checked his other pocket. "Damnit! Where the hell are my keys? How am I supposed to get home?"
Darien suddenly felt terribly sick. He opened the door, leaned his head out and vomited. As he sat back up he felt incredibly hot. Then he passed out, his seat belt still buckled and his car door still open.
The sun shone straight into Darien's eyes, waking him suddenly. "Ugh, where am I?" he still felt somewhat sick from the previous night. Darien hardly remembered what had happened.
He looked over and saw a stray piece of paper laying on the passenger seat. Darien flipped it over to find out what it was. It was a note from Serena:
Darien,
I came by and returned your keys, I stole them because I knew you were in no condition to drive. I doubt you remember what happened last night but give me a call, I really need to talk to you.
Serena
Attached to the note was his keys, he pulled them off and stuck them in the ignition. <What exactly did happen last night?> He felt lightheaded and the world seemed to be spinning. <Okay, I'll go home once the rest of the world stops spinning.>
Darien sat there for about two more hours, drifting in and out of sleep until he decided he should go home. He drove carefully back to his apartment, a change from his usual self.
He made it up into his apartment and checked the time. "Serena's still in school. So I can sleep now and call her later," Darien reasoned with himself. His clothes still smelled of beer and vomit, but he was too tired to change.
