NOTE: I need feedback on this one, to know whether or not I should
continue it. At this stage, the post is very rough start on something I
began three days ago. Just tell me what you guys think!

Kagome looked worn, exhausted. Her body was battered, scarred, and
almost
unrecognizable to everyone else. She looked at Sato, then at Inu-Yasha,
and
closed her eyes.
"With this shard, the Shikon Jewel is now complete."
The smile on her face was countered by a pained look in her eyes. "My
job
here is done. However, there is only one way I can keep it safe, and
you know
how it is to be. My predecessor has performed it, and now I myself must
do
it.
"Inu-Yasha, put your back to the tree." He obliged.
She moved up to him, tears in her eyes, and kissed him. "I love you,"
she
whispered.
He looked at her, then closed his eyes. "I love you," he whispered.
She moved three meters away from him, and drew her bow. She nocked it.
She then closed her eyes,
let thoughts of the past flow
drew back the arrow,
into her mind like
shut her eyelids even
further,
Kikyo before her
and let go of the arrow.
||TWANG|| *THUD*
Her knees buckled, and she fell to the floor. But she did not weep.
She then turned to her younger brother.
"Sato, you know what to do next. Keep an eye on Grandpa and Mom and
Buyo for
me, okay?"
Sato nodded solemnly. He really was mature for a child of thirteen, and
he
understood that what he had to do next was for the best, really.
"I'll always be there for you..." and with that, she died.
Sato shed a single tear. He then started preparing the funeral pyre.

--KUSANAGI! WAKE UP!
Kusanagi Matoko snapped to attention and banged her head on the top of
the
Fuchikoma, which squeaked back a "hey! watch it!"
--SORRY ABOUT THAT, BATEAU. THIS STAKEOUT'S EVEN MORE BORING THAN THE
OLD APE
SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE, AND THE SUSPECT WON'T BE SHOWING UP FOR ANOTHER
HOUR
OR SO.
--DIDN'T YOU GET ANY SLEEP LAST NIGHT?
--COME ON, YOU'VE ALREADY DOVE INTO ME. YOU KNOW I HAD A BUSY
EVENING...
--YEAH, YEAH, ALL RIGHT. BUT THAT DOESN'T GIVE YOU ANY RIGHT TO SLEEP
ON THE
JOB...
--MM-HMM.
It wasn't a typical Section Nine mission. Nothing like the
adrenalin-rush
cases that she was used to. Stakeouts weren't typically to be the
Foreign
Ministry's job, but they were assigned to do it anyway.
The stakeout spot was in the neck of the woods, whatever little there
was left
in Tokyo. This was more of a small reservation. Within this
reservation lay
the place where their contact would meet with the suspect, an area
between a
giant tree and a water well.
This is the kind of place they talk about in fairy tales,< Matoko noted
to
herself, somewhat absentmindedly. She continued to gaze at the tree
with an
almost unsettling familiarity, as if she might have seen it in a past
life,
if there were such a thing. She hesitated at the thought of what kind
of past
life she might have had. Especially if it caused her to have a hellish
job
like she did now.
It almost seemed like no time had passed when she saw the contact
appear.
About a minute after that, the suspect uncloaked himself, and the two of
them
made some kind of trade.
--THAT'S OUR CUE, MATO-CHAN.
--OKAY, THEN, ON THREE,
TWO,
ONE,
NOW!
Four Fuchikomas uncloaked themselves and surrounded the suspect. With
nowhere
else to go, the man dove into the well.
Acting on some gut instinct, Makoto got out of her Fuchi and launched
towards
the well. It was too late for her to turn back, even after hearing
Ichikawa
screaming "KUSANAGI! NO!"
And then she fell...
***
...about three meters.
That wasn't the strange part, though. The strange part was the fact
that the
suspect she was tracing wasn't there. It was as if he jumped into the
well
and...disappeared.
She tried thermo-optics. Nothing. Either he's really gone or he's a
really
rich man with the pocket cash to spend on a good cloaking device.
Logic deducted that if the suspect was here and using an anti-TO stealth
suit,
he'd have taken advantage of it and killed her by now. Hence, he really
was
gone.
--BATEAU, HE'S GONE. GET ME OUTTA HERE.
Silence.
--BATEAU, YOU THERE?
Silence.
--ISHIKAWA?
Silence.
--NOT FUNNY, GUYS. NOW GET ME A ROPE OR SOMETHING, I DON'T THINK I CAN
CLIMB
UP FOR ANOTHER TEN MINUTES WHILE I'M REPAIRING MYSELF.

Dammit all to hell!< Matoko swore under her breath, as she started
climbing
up the dirt walls with nothing but her hands.
