After such an intense orgasm, she should have been panting heavily;
however, she lay unnaturally still, the rise and fall of a chest 
filling with air curiously absent.

She'd told me she was going to try this, but I hadn't believed she'd go 
through with it.  I knew that she was still alive.  If she wasn't, I'd 
probably have joined her in death.  I decided not to bring her out of 
the trance, as it might mess up what she attempting.  The only thing to 
do was wait for her to come out of it on her own.  I went to take a 
shower.

"Arrggh!" I heard a few minutes later.

"I take it it didn't work?" I called from the shower.

"No, damn it!"

I shut off the water and went to join her.  "I didn't think it would.  
To draw power from an orgasm, you have to actually experience it.  You 
can't do that while in a trance."

"But if you _do_ experience it, you lose yourself in the pleasure, and 
can't draw power from it."

"Which is why practitioners of sex magic are so rare.  It's supposed to 
be theoretically possible, but I've never met someone who's accomplished 
it."

"What about that freak you told me about?  His name was Happosai, or 
something like that.  Doesn't he draw power from blatantly perverse 
acts?"

"Yes and no.  He steals women's underwear for some unknown purpose, 
flips up their skirts to take a peek, and glomps their breasts.  Sex 
magic is supposed to be based on drawing power from orgasm.  None of 
that should be enough to produce one.  I think he draws power from the 
anger his actions cause to be directed at him."

"Oh.  It's just that we've done so many things that are theoretically 
impossible.  It galls me that we can't manage this."

"I know.  But then again, do you really want to?  Do you want to become 
the type of person that uses sex solely for power, and never for 
pleasure?  I don't."

"True.  All right, let's just drop the whole attempt.  We probably have 
enough sources of power at our disposal anyway."
