After reading through the entire fic, I think that this particular

chapter suffers from no enough foreshadowing on this part.  It's not
clear enough that this is really the case.<<

Unlike the other chapters, there was no scene of Mousse getting the device,
thinking it over and making his wish. That would have made things clearer.
Instead we are dropped into the fic AFTER he has been granted his wish. As
far as I can tell, he wished to see things clearly. Unfortunately, that
meant more than just his eyesight.
