Im taking this story over for Belphane, who wrote the original story.
He asked for someone to take it over, and I was the only one to offer. Im
a glutton for punishment, arent I?
======================================================================

Phadrons fist sped toward the wounded young woman, only to be caught
in a viselike grip. Before he could even think of reacting to this hand
that came out of nowhere, Phadron found himself flying through the air, only
to have his flight stopped by the rocky ground of the Tendo home.
Didnt you ever learn that it isnt nice to hit an opponent when
theyre down. Ranma said. Ryouga, get the sensei in to Khu Lon, and get
her patched up. Ranma stared at Phadron, never taking his eyes off of him.
Phadron quickly scrambled to his feet, sneering at Ranma. The two of them
ignored Ryouga as he quickly but gently moved the young woman out of the
line of battle. Hikaru struggled a bit.
No. . . . No. She weakly muttered. Your friend . . . he cant
beat Phadron. The mans a monster.
Dont worry. Ranma can take him. Ryouga assured Hikaru. Hikaru
didnt answer, because she had fallen unconscious.
Ranma and Phadron were caught in a war of wills, and for once, Phadron
was finding himself on the short end of the stick. The students backed away
from the impending battle, no one wanted to be caught in the cross fire
between those two, even though all of them wanted a piece of the man who had
attacked their sensei. Battle auras arose from the two martial artists,
signaling the imminent beginning of the fight.
Whats going on here? A woman yelled. Wheres Hikaru? Ranma
diverted some of his attention toward the source of the voice. It was a
young Japanese woman, with her black hair cut very short. She was dressed
in a conservative, but stylish business pantssuit. Phadron used the
distraction as an excuse to power down his aura. He had seen Ranmas, and
it left him with feelings of . . . inadequacy.
Akane was not in a good mood. She comes home tired, and she hears an
explosion at her house. Then, she finds her sisters slime ball boyfriend
in a battle aura staring duel with some stranger, all in the middle of a
martial arts class, and Hikaru is nowhere in sight. She looked the stranger
over, trying to determine just how good a martial artist he was. *Very* was
her answer. He felt like he was *at least* as powerful as she was, but
skill and power are two different things. And from the way he carried
himself, she got the feeling he was as skilled as he was powerful. <Who is
he?> She wondered.
Sorry, Akane. There was a *slight* sparing accident, and Hikaru got
hurt. Phadron said with a sardonic grin . Im sure shell be fine soon.
Now, if youll excuse me, Ill go see if Kasumi is ready. And with that,
Phadron left. Akane stared at Phadrons retreating figure.
If it was a *sparring accident,* Im a monkeys uncle. Akane
muttered to herself. She then turned to Ranma, the only person there that
she didnt know.
Im Akane Tendo, my family owns the dojo. And you are?
Ranma Saotome, of Anything Goes Martial Arts Saotome ryu. Ranma said
as he bowed. I have heard much about your skills, Ms. Tendo, and Im
honored to meet you. You have done much to advance the Art here in
America. Akane was flattered that he said she was so well known. Of
course, Ranma didnt mention that he heard most of it from her father.
Perhaps we should go inside. Ranma said. Your sensei is being
cared for by friends of mine, but she may be better off in a hospital, where
she can watched over constantly. Akane nodded absently. She quickly
canceled class, and the pair rushed into the Tendo sisters house.
When they got inside, they found Ryouga guarding the door from Phadron.
Oh, its you again. Phadron sneered. Tell this gorilla to let me
in, so I can see Kasumi.
This jerk tried to bother the ladies when they took the sensei in. I
*suggested* to him that it would be better for the health of *both* of them,
if he stays out here. Ryouga said to his brother. Ranma looked at Phadron
as if he was a bug, a rather loathsome bug at that. Akane looked at her
former student with barely disguised contempt in her eyes, and walked
through the door, past Ryouga. Ranma followed her, an unspoken
communication passing between the brothers.
They found Hikaru surrounded by a number of women. Xian pu, Khu Lon,
Ranmas parents, and a woman that Ranma didnt know, presumably Kasumi.
Kasumi would, every now and then, glance toward the door, pensively.
Hikaru, who was still unconscious, had a number of bandages over her body.
How is she doing Khu Lon? Ranma asked. Khu Lon turned a grim visage
on him.
We have treated the young woman as well as we can under these
conditions, but we must get her to a healer, they will likely have the tools
that I lack here. There is another problem as well. The technique that was
used to wound the young woman has disrupted her chi, and it is beyond my
skills to completely reverse the damage. One or the other she would likely
recover from without incident. However, its possible she will be crippled
without proper treatment for both. However, I do not of anyone close
enough, who possesses the skills necessary to repair the damage. Khu Lon
rubbed her face tiredly. The best I can do is to keep her chi stabilized,
and try to treat her physical injuries. With any luck, she will be able to
recover enough so that she can heal naturally. Though, Khu Lons tone
conveyed just how unlikely that was.
Phadron! Akane growled, endowing the name with as much contempt as
she could muster. A *sparring accident* my eye! If that man used that
kind of technique in sparring he either wanted it to happen, or hes too
stupid for words, and if theres one thing that snake isnt, its stupid!
I cant believe he would do something like that. Kasumi said, with
worry in her eyes. She knew the lengths her sisters would go if what they
were saying was true, especially if they found out the things that she had
been keeping from them. Ranma looked at Kasumi with pity, he could tell she
seemed to care for the serpant, for some reason. Ranma turned to Khu Lon.
Isnt there anything you can do, Elder? Khu Lon shook her head.
Genma watched the pair of them, while Nodoka sighed at such a tragic fate
for the young woman. Akane began to build a battle aura, while Xian pu
looked pityingly at what had once been a strong warrior, now perhaps maimed
for life. Ranma then got a far-away look to his eyes.
What about Ashura? He asked. The people in the room who had shown
up with him gasped at the question. Then, Khu Lon, after pondering it for a
moment, slowly gave an answer.
It is impossible to say, my boy. The power of Ashura is like the
storm, virtually unstoppable, and uncontrollable. With your skills, it
should be enough to repair her chi, but there is no room for error when
dealing with Ashura. Khu Lon nodded, and was about to give instructions,
while Nabiki was going to ask just *what* Ashura was, when Kasumi spoke up.
I know a man who might be able to help. A doctor at the hospital is
teaching us about the skills he learned while training under Chinese
healers. Hes even started teaching us about various pressure points, and
chi lines in the body. Some of the other students have said that hes
learned some of the same things that martial artist can do, but use them to
heal. One of the residents said that he saved a patient that everyone
thought couldnt be saved. She said, not taking her eyes off of the
doorway. The angry muttering of a man, distorted by the thickness of the
door could be heard. His name is Doctor Tofu Ono.
Ill have my driver take you to him, Kasumi. We can call him on our
way to the hospital. Nodoka said. Akane picked Hikaru up, and the four
left the room. Just as soon as Kasumi was out of the door, Phadron started
some syrupy attempt to try and explain everything, but Kasumi just looked at
him, as if she didnt understand him, then followed her sister and aunt
away. Phadron stared after them, unable to believe that Kasumi didnt just
acquiesce meekly, as always. Then his face contorted into rage, and a dark
blue battle aura developed around him. Ranma just looked at him, and said
one word.
Dont. Phadron just looked at Ranma. Just a look, but it was
enough. Ranma held that most terrifying of gazes, which simply said I know
what you are, and Im not worried, I could get rid of you but you arent
worth the time. Then as if that had been his intention all along, Phadron
turned and left. His aura fading around him.
I have seen warriors with that look in their eyes, before. They have
a lust for power or riches that nothing can quench. And when they find one
who is their equal, or their superior, they will not stop, until one or the
other of them is destroyed. Khu Lon said.
Watch out for that one Husband, he is a mad dog. Xian pu concurred.
Ranma nodded. However, no matter how skilled the fool thought he was,
there was no way he could beat any of the people from China. The five of
them had been tempered in a forge that would have destroyed Phadron, one way
or another. However, he *was* a strong fighter, and could easily cause a
number of people a great deal of pain.
Ill watch out for him, ladies. Ranma said.
