Nope, you've got a case of mistaken ID here. He's not

*very* important ideas...

In an unnecessarily harsh, demeaning and purposefully patronizing
manner; with the number of replies to Kaoru's post, ELL's
post failed to contribute anything of value to the thread and did
nothing but put down a list member.

I was asking that there be more demand because
the damn thing is HUGE.

I don't understand your logic here. Do you mean that
the fact that it's the size of Greenland merits it
more demand? If so then, boy, are *you* on the wrong
track of thinking.

The logic is quite clear. Kaoru simply did not think of breaking the
story up; now he knows. However, he was concerned that without a
sufficient interest in reading his 400 kb monolith, people would only
be annoyed with its size and shitcan the piece. He asked if there
was a demand, received a less than warm response encouraging him to
post it without question, and lo and behold here we are.

I posted it because people told me to shut up
and post it if I was going
to, instead of asking that people show more
initiative and tell me that they
REALLY wanted it to be posted.

I sense that *somebody* wants their ego stroked...

No, I sense an extreme misunderstanding between all parties involved.
This being the FFML, of course, we're quick to assume the worst in
everyone, eh?

DAMN STRAIGHT. Read closely, folks; this is why I'm
seriously thinking of killfiling this guy. I'm having
to store a large amount of my fics and prereader stuff
on my e-mail account because wonderful Microsuk
Internut Exploder just crashed my computer. I'm
nearing the limit of my storage; that little fic put
my WAAY over my limit. They almost erased everything I
had stored to make room for that fic. If I had been
about two minutes late, I would have lost everything.
Not a pleasant thought.

Then killfile him and so be it. I haven't had any problems,
so why should I do the same? List solidarity? Bullshit.
Kaoru made a mistake, apologized for it, and the only thing
the list can do is to continue to berate him. EVERYONE
needs to throw in their two cents about why Kaoru's an
ass for posting a 400 kb story after giving folks sufficient
warning and even asking people whether or not there was
sufficient demand to read it before posting. I say that's
downright courteous.

C'mon, people, it's common sense to not send a whole
bunch of huge materials through the list at once; you
run the risk of crashing the entire list.

Common sense? Amazing what you consider common sense. If I had only
my experience to build on, then I wouldn't think of anything if folks started
spamming the list with MP3s. Common sense, Jess? Sounds almost as
dubious as the uncountable majority that look to "the rules of good
writing" to judge a fanfic.

With all due respect (Repeated: With all do
respect), I have noticed,
ELL, that your opinions are often unduly harsh and
very snide. I am sure
there's a nicer person underneath your words, but
I'm lookin'.

Actually, that was pretty mild. I've seen people get a
lot worse (usually because they deserve it.) This was
really quite restrained, and he didn't say a thing
that overstepped the boundaries of being a flame
(hell, he didn't really come close). Please, think
before you post.

Why? Tell me why how any list member beyond the moderators
has permission to flame or incite a flamewar? Tell me how any
act by another list member gives another a license to flame?

*blinks*

*blinks again*

BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA! *Economics*? Ye gods, are you dense?

Hardly ANYONE sees the kind of requests that you're
wanting. Not that great to think about, but that's
life. The trick is to write for the sheer pleasure of
it, not to have adulation from the masses. (I'm glad
that's not true, 'cause then I'd be in trouble =^_^;=
)

Hmmm...I remember this argument. Oh! That's because I made
it and what? Half of the list said I was crazy!

What you forgot to mention is that writing for sheer
pleasure is one motivation. Another is to garner a large
readership (a motivation that can follow a number of others).
In that case, Kaoru's economic analogy is valid.

Hey, Lurker, isn't there something in the FAQ about
file sizes and posting methods? if not, it might make
something of a good addition....

There's also something in the FAQ about flaming, if I
remember.
