Star Sailors T
a Sailor Moon fanfic by SailorM
episode 1 - A rising star! Sailor Andromeda appears!
What a noise.
Like a Russian army trying out thier automatic guns and finding
the're all way too old to do anything exept maybe make their enemies
totally deaf.
Or like the annual Can-recycle Clubs Convention showing their cans
to each other before giving them all to the proper institutions.
Or like... like...
Meagen's alarm clock?
Yep, that's it. The only thing which can force out of her bed the
soundest sleeper this side of New York. No modern bleeping device can
match this old museum item in the competition of Waking Up Meagen
Knapick.
And here it proves itself again. Under the all messed-up brown hair,
a pair of sleepy deep blue eyes slowly open up. Meagen yawns,
obviously not very disturbed by the awful mettalic noise. Only when
she's quite sure to be awake and unable to doze off again, she gives
her alarm clock a good smack and heavenly silence blesses the whole
neighborhood.
Meagen gets up, yawns again and goes to the bathroom.
Sometime later, she leaves her house with her hair combed up and we
see that it is straight, it reaches the middle of her neck and makes
bangs on her face almost down to her eyes. Meagen is dressed up in
her usual jeans and light blue sweater combo, with a schoolbag on her
back and a tiered expression on her face. But the cold morning air
wakes her up completely as she cheers up and runs to her school.
Meagen made it into the classroom first. She sat in her seat and
started waiting for her classmates.
First came Peter: Pure Buisness Blood, as Meagen calls him. He
looked around the class to see who was already there, waved at Meagen
and put a sign saying "Place bets here - 1$" on his desk. Meagen
smiled and shook her head.
Peter smiled back, sat down and put a small box and some paper on
his desk.
The class went silent for a few moments, then Melissa walked in. Her
dark-blonde hair was slightly wavy but it still covered up her back
completely. She was wearing a pair of jeans with one of her trademark
flower-design tops and carrying her bag wich had a picture of
a big-eyed girl on it.
She went to Peter's desk, gave him a one-dollar bill and said,
"Nine". Peter marked down something on one of his peices of paper,
put the dollar in the box and nodded.
Melissa went to her own desk and pulled out a magazine with more of
those large-eyed girls and lots of wierd symbols on it. Greek or
Chinese or whatever, Meagen never really could remember. Melissa
claims she can read that, but what she sometimes translated never
made much sense to Meagen.
As Meagen wached, Melissa got an amazed expression and stared at
the magazine with eyes almost as wide as those of the girls in it.
- The Sailor Senshi are back! - she exclaimed with a 'I know you're
not interested, but I just GOTTA tell someone' tone of voice.
- I didn't think Popeye lived in China... - was Meagen's response.
Melissa slammed the magazine shut and yelled:
- How many times do I have to tell you, that's JAPAN!!!!!
'Right, Japan', thought Meagen. 'I knew it was somewhere back west.'
- China or Japan, what's this Sailor... Sushi buisness? - she said
aloud. Melissa sat back down, a bit calmed down and with a face wich
clearly meant she was in her favorite subject, and if she'd start
talking now, there would be no stopping her.
Sure enough, there she went:
- The Sailor SENSHI, or Sailor Soldiers, are a group of teenage
superheroines, dressed in sailor-like uniforms with short skirts.
They live in Japan and there they fight...
- Against crime - Meagen cut in.
Melissa gave her a sharp look:
- There is virtually NO crime in Japan. The Sailor Soldiers fight
against evil beings, called youma or demons. And they do a darn good
job, too. - she paused for breath - Three months ago, the demon
attacks mysteriously stopped and the Sailor Soldiers vanished. But
now, there's been more demons and the Senshi are back! It says here -
she pointed to the magazine - that a giant demon tree destroyed an
appartment building. Two high school students are missing. Something
about a guy dressed in an Arabian outfit, too.
- Arabian outfit?!? - asked Meagen.
- Yeah, I think it's strange too. There's suposed to have been a guy
in a tuxedo helping the Senshi, but an Arabian outfit? Things are
getting stranger and stranger over there.
- I'll say. What do those... yummy things do, anyway?
- YOUMAS drain energy out of people.
- Energy? How do they do that?
- Nobody knows exactly. I just heard you suddently feel very sleepy,
then pass out. You sleep a long time and then you're hungry. But if
they drain too much, you could even die.
- Sounds like vampires.
- Yep.
The conversation broke off. Melissa turned to her magazine while
Meagen looked back at the door.
A rather chubby girl with her straight brown hair in a ponytail
came in. She was wearing pants with vertical stripes and a shirt
saying "Hi! I'm Janet!". Apart from her schoolbag she had a jacket
over her shoulder.
She runned cheerfully to Peter's desk, gave him a dollar and said,
"Seven!". PBB marked something down again and the bill joined its
mate.
Janet went to her desk and waved at Meagen. She was just about to
say something when suddently they were both distracted by the noise
of the classroom door being banged open. Peter just heard "Eleven!"
before he had to wave his arms around rather chaotically. Eventually
he caught the third dollar from the air and marked something down
again.
- Optimistic, aren't we? - said Meagen with a smile.
- You bet! - was the answer.
Ann was already at her desk and she sat down in a swirl of her dark
hair. It reached past her shoulders. Meagen noticed a dark blue bow
in it, matching Ann's baggy sweater. All of Ann's tops seem to be
baggy, probably because she always puts them on in a big hurry.
Meagen has no evidence for that, but it's a rather safe guess,
because Ann always seems to be in a hurry.
Apart from the baggy sweater, Ann was wearing a pair of blue jeans.
- You betting today, Megs? - asked Janet.
- Nope. I always seem to lose anyway.
- Gotta have a good system. - said Ann.
- Or inside news! - added Janet.
- Well, PBB's the only one who gets any profit in this thing! -
- Meagen pointed out.
- But we get to have some fun - objected Ann - That's important too!
- Speak for yourself. I don't find it fun to lose my money trying to
predict... Oh, you know - Meagen made an undefined wave with her hand
- The practically unpredictable.
- It is unpredictable - admitted Janet - That's what makes it fun!
- Not exactly speaking of it, but look who's here! - exclaimed Ann.
The girl that just walked in had perfectly straight, waist-long,
golden blonde hair. Unlike all the other students, she was wearing
a knee-long dark green skirt. Her maching dark green and navy blue
blouse was all buttoned up. She was carrying a bag in her hand. Her
pace was steady and distinguished. She held her head high and her
eyes seemed shut. She walked slowly past Peter's desk and, with
perfect timing, without a single look or a slower step, she dropped
a dollar on it and said "Eight." Her voice was cold and official. It
seemed to have a British accent in it, but it was hard to tell from
just one word.
As the girl walked on, Ann streched her leg to her side, hoping to
have a nice fall break the perfect harmony of that well-studied pace.
The girl stopped short exactly one step before the outstreched leg.
- Would you kindly move your limb so that I can pass? - she said,
showing an almost completely British accent and making the phrase
a statement. Not a question. She turned her head just a little bit so
she could face Ann. - Please? - she added with a voice to keep milk
in.
Ann's expression went quickly from a "now we're gonna laugh" grin
through a "now I'm in trouble" face to an embarassed blush. She
quickly pulled her leg back, mumbling an appology.
The girl made a half-nod as she turned her head back and proceeded
to her desk. One would almost expect her to do a few automatic,
robot-like moves to sit down, but she made a passage from the last
step to sitting down so swiftly, that it was hard to tell at wich
point the swich really occured. The girl had the grace and dignity of
a Siamese cat.
- Hello, Agnes! - said Meagen cheerfully.
Agnes opened her eyes. They were green - a vivid, grass-like light
green. Something like a tiny bit of a smile rested on her lips, and
she said in a little bit warmer tone of voice:
- Good morning, Meagen.
Then came the lessons. English, History, Biology... Well, a day like
any day for a New York college student. The last lesson was Maths.
The math teacher was a gentle elderly man. He explained the subject
making it crystal clear and perfectly understandable. Then, he threw
a quick glance at his wach and seeing that he had only four minutes
left until the end of classes, he said:
- And that's about it. For Monday, I'd like you to do excercises:
three, five, six, eight, nine, ten, twelve...
Janet's face lit up.
- ...fourteen...
Janet was clearly dissapointed. Agnes had a little glint in her eye.
- ...and fifteen. Class dissmissed.
The glint in Agnes's eye vanished. Melissa smiled happily. When the
teacher left she skipped over to Peter's desk and said:
- Looks like I was right!
- It does - agreed Peter. He gave Melissa three of the four dollars
from his box and packed up all his stuff.
Melissa put the money in her pocket and went back to her desk.
Everyone headed home.
It was dark. There was a lot of varoius equipment around. Some of it
was all dusty and forgotten, some of it was worn out from constant
use. All of it was really wierd.
The man was wearing a lab coat. His face was hidden in the shadows.
- Pandora.
- Yes, professor. - said the woman. She had wavy fiery red hair down
to her knees. She was wearing a black dress.
- There is one ultimate formula that will make us famous. It is
unique in the Universe. I must have it.
- Someone has already thought of it.
- But he doesn't know it. It is hidden deep within his mind.
- So if we look into the minds of brilliant humans, we will find it.
- Exactly. - he threw a black, glittering orb, as big as one fist,
to her - take this Thinker and find a brilliant human. I must have
that formula.
- Deadly Twinkle.
- Yes, Mistress. - The girl looked no more than fifteen. Her eyes
were a very dark green. Her black hair with green highlights was done
up in a braid but it still swept the floor. She was wearing a black
skin-tight suit with sleeves to her elbows and a skirt reaching below
the knee. She was holding a staff higher than herself. It had
a V-like branch on one end, with a horizontal perch between the two
ends and a bell hanging from it. This object was all in a deep, dark
grey. Her legs were in a pair of very short boots, reaching halfway
up her calf.
- Take this. - the orb was thrown again - Have you found a victim?
- Yes. - an image of Meagen's math teacher appeared and Deadly
Twinkle continiued - It only takes a bit of work to study for
oneself. But to teach others successfully requiers a mind brilliant
indeed. This is an astoundishing tutor, who is also a very well-known
mathematician. He is most likely to have thought of such a formula.
- Good. You may proceed.
Meagen was back home in no time at all. She decided to do her
homework quickly and then go to the mall to check out if they had the
latest "Babysitter Buddies" Michael glasses. It was her favorite
comedy series and she wanted that glass very badly. It was the one
that she needed to complete her collection wich already consisted of
Anny, Martha, Peter (the one in the series was so different from PBB
it always made her laugh), Michelle (Meagen always wondered why that
girl had turqoise hair), Harry and Alice.
'And if I hurry up, I might just make it back in time to see the
latest episode at six' thought Meagen 'It's not that important,
thought.'
At 3:40, she sat down at her desk.
She had just opened her Math book when she felt drowsy.
'What the...?' she thought 'I've been getting enough sleep lately...
And I fell like I've been in a marathon... I gotta rest a while...'
She got up, barely made it to her bed and fell sound asleep.
Meagen was floating in a black, empty space. She looked around, but
there was nothing. She tried moving, but her arms and legs were
paralysed. She could only move her head.
Then, in the darkness, something started to form. Meagen moved - or
maybe was moved - closer. Everything was red and black. A round,
swirling shape was present at her right. On her left were five
people whose faces she couldn't see. Two of them were clearly
holding a third prisonner. It was a woman - an evil woman. Meagen
slightly shivered when she saw her.
A fourth person - also a woman - was holding something. Meagen knew
somehow that the object had belonged to the evil woman and was taken
away from her. There was something strangely familliar and comforting
about the person holding the object.
The last woman gave Meagen an impression of royalty. She was
clearly in charge here, and she was judging the evil woman. She
seemed to talk for a while (Meagen didn't hear anything from the
moment she got there) and then pointed to the round, swirling shape.
The two 'guards' pushed the evil woman closer to it. She seemed to
give herself up, but at the last moment she jumped back, siezed the
object that belonged to her from the familiar person's hands and
jumped into the swirling round shape.
Meagen could feel there was something terribly worng. The 'guards'
and the judging royalty rushed forward with concern. They looked at
the swirly shaped, but it seemed like there was nothing they could
do.
The strangely familliar woman just stood there, her fists balled
up. Meagen could feel her anger and fustration. She blamed herself
for not holding that thing tight enough.
Then the scene vanished. All except the familliar person. She was
still standing there, without moving. Then she seemed to have noticed
Meagen. She looked at her with new hope. Then she reached out to her.
Meagen knew what this meant. Something happened, it was very bad and
only with her help it could be repaired. She hesitated only a moment.
She held out her hand.
It felt like fabric, as if the person was wearing thin gloves.
Then the preson started to fade away. Her hand started to feel more
like fur. Everything twisted... And shivered...
And then Meagen was lying back on her own bed, seeing her own room
in full colour and resting her hand on top of a small, red-striped
cat's head.
As Meagen focused, she saw something unusual; a section of the cat's
forhead had blue fur. It formed a four-pionted shape.
The cat lowered its head and slipped out from under Meagen's hand.
Then it sat down, cleared its throat and said:
- Well, that settles it. You've been chosen.
The only reason Meagen didn't fall over was that she was already
lying on the bed. So she just closed her eyes, hoping to make the
talking cat go away.
- Meagen, are you listening to me? - asked the cat's voice. Meagen
shut her eyelids even tighter.
Then she felt a sharp pain on her hand. She was up in a second, her
drowsiness all gone.
- What the HELL did you do that for?!?! - she screamed at the cat -
- You... you...
- My name is Iris - said the cat clamly putting his paw back on
the sheet - I had to scrach you because you wouldn't listen to me.
Further more, I have come here to give you something.
Before Meagen could say one word, the cat jumped. It did a backflip
and when it landed back on Meagen's bed something fell down.
Meagen picked the object up. It was clearly a pen. It was purple
with a golden cap. On top was a light-purple ball with a golden wire
forming a five-pointed star around it. A round, red gem was placed in
the middle of the ball.
- It's a very special magic pen - explained Iris - with it you can
transform into what you might call a superhero.
- I can transform? With a pen? - Meagen repeated.
- Yes. Raise it into the air and say "Andromeda power, Make up!"
- This is too wierd. - Meagen stood up - But I guess it's a kind of
adventure.
She lifted her pen and took a deep breath.
- Here goes.
Deadly Twinkle silently levitated into the now-empty teachers' room.
She saw one of her victim's textbooks. 'Perfect' she thought as she
dropped the dark orb onto it. The orb sank into the textbook like
a stone into water. The textbook flashed a split-second.
Deadly Twinkle chuckled and hid in the shadow of a nearby locker.
All she had to do was wait.
- Andromeda power, MAKE UP!
As soon as she shouted the magic words, Meagen felt something really
strange. In an instant, a shiver passed over her from her raised hand
to her toes. Her clothes dissolved, leaving behind only something
that felt like a bodysuit. All she could see was purple, red and pink
stripes flashing by, coming from nowhere and dissapearing to nowhere.
She heard something like music, a melody that she had never heard
and yet one very familiar to her. She was dancing - moving and doing
poses she never learned, but seemed to be right, like they were
coming from the strange music.
Then a ribbon of pure light came out of the pen. Meagen guided it
around her body, and it broke into different parts and encircled
her arms, legs and waist. In a split-second, the light changed into
clothes - gloves, boots and a short skirt.
Meagen could feel another burst of energy, starting on the middle
of her forhead, splitting up. It left a double cold trail running
back, down her hair and further.
She twirled around once more and did a pose.
Then it was over - she was standing in that final pose in the middle
of her room, the music was gone and the weird energy dissapeared.
Strangely, she didn't feel exausted after doing such a quick and
complicated "dance"; she was just a bit dizzy.
She looked down. She was wearing a purple sailor-like collar with
two golden lines. In the middle of her chest was a pink bow, held in
place by a round purple brooch.
The bodysuit that she felt from the beginning of her transformation
turned out to be white, jointed just below the chest part and with
three little puffed rings on her soulders.
On her arms were white elbow-long gloves with three purple rings
holding them down at the end.
Meagen was wearing a purple mini-skirt with a puffed white V-shaped
border holding it.
Her legs were in a pair of elegant purple boots pointed up at the
front.
As she looked at her costume, Meagen felt a pressure against her
neck. She reached up to it with her gloved hands and discovered
a choker. When she felt along it, she discovered something else...
- LONG HAIR?!?!? - she shouted out.
- That's interesting - said Iris, paused and then continued - but
don't worry. It's probably only in your Sailor form.
- Sailor? - Meagen remembered something - You mean like those Sailor
Sensei people in Japan?
- Sailor Sen... Oh, right, the Sailor Senshi of Crystal Tokyo.
Yes, something like that. You are the Soldier of Light, Sailor
Andromeda.
Meagen was silent for a moment. Then she said:
- Sailor Andromeda. Sound cool.
- You have three missions: One, protect this town from evil beings.
- Demons?
- Right. Second, find the other Soldiers. They are girls living
in this town like you. Third, find the Blue Crystal.
- What's that?
- It's very powerful source of positive energy. It was hidden when
it was sent here so the enemy wouldn't find it. You see, the only
thing that could destroy them is the Blue Crystal.
Silence rested for a few more whiles as Meagen slowly thought over
all the things Iris had told her. So she, Meagen, was a hero in
a wierd costume and was supposed to look for a crystal...
- But right now, there's no time - said Iris suddently - you have to
go to your school. One of your teachers is being attacked by the
ennemies.
Meagen's still dazed expression hardened as she knew that her new
duty had called.
- Let's go - she said.
'I'm almost as much of a scatterbrain as that dear Ann' he thought
as he entered the deserted teachers' room. 'Now where did I... ah,
there it is.'
He reached out to his textbook.
The instant he touched it, a very bright flash of light illuminated
the dark room. He sheilded his eyes with his arm. When he was able to
see again, an horrible monster was standing in front of him.
It looked like a giant purple textbook with two long purple legs,
purple arms and hands with four pencil-like claws. The wampige-like
head had very inhuman eyes, pointy ears and a long, wavy cascade of
golden hair on it.
- Sull Tinker! - exclamed the thing.
- Get him, Thinker. - said Deadly Twinkle, coming out from the
shadows.
- Tinker! - shouted the demon and suddently, its textbook body
opened as if wind had blown on it. Giant sheets of paper flew out of
it and pinned the old man to the wall, leaving uncovered only his
head and his right fist wich was forced to about face level.
He was knocked to uncounciousness be the impact.
All this took only about ten seconds.
- Good work. - said Deadly Twinkle taking a step forward. She
pointed her bell staff at the old man when...
- Hold it! - shouted a voice.
- Who's there? - yelled the black-suited villan furiously.
- I won't let you attack a school teacher! - there was a pause -
- Even if he DOES give just a little bit too much homework...
The teacher's eyes fluttered open for a while, but then closed back.
The Thinker looked around and saw the girl. She walked closer with
determination on her face.
'Now to think of a good speech.' thought Meagen. Of course, it was
her, still in the Sailor outfit. Her house was only a few minutes
away, and she had just made the pleasent discovery that while trans-
formed, she could run really fast.
She coughed.
- I am the Sailor-suited Soldier that stands for light and justice,
Sailor Andromeda! In the name of the stars, I'm gonna punish you!!!
- the last part was added as an instant after-thought. Meagen
remembered waugely that there was a constellation named Andromeda.
- Childish - Deadly Twinkle said clamly, turning back to Meagen's
teacher - Thinker, take care of her.
- Tinker! - shouted the demon and pointed his arm at Sailor Andro-
meda. Instantly, his four pencil-finger-claw things shot out - some
more replaced them, appearing out of nowhere - and flew torwards her.
She jumped to the side to dodge the attack, and was surprised
herself. It was like bouncing on a trampoline! Obviously, in Sailor
form she could jump extra far too.
She quickly hid her surprise as she landed - that also was very
easy, much easier than landing from this kind of jump would usually
be - and anounced nonchantly: - You're gonna have to do better than
that to stop me.
- Sull Tinker! - exclaimed the demon as his body flew open again and
gigantic pieces of paper flew out at Sailor Andromeda. She got out
of the way of those too, or at least she thought so. Unfortunately
she quickly found that the paper had hit her...
- DAMN LONG HAIR!!! - she shouted. Deadly Twinkle laughed. And she
was right, too. Sailor Andromeda looked quite funny, down on her
hands and knees, with her hair pinned to the wall by the giant paper.
The young vilaness chuckled once more, ignored a few curses from her
opponent, and pointed her bell staff at the teacher again.
Instantly, the two branches of the fork enlarged and flew forward.
They coiled up agound the old man's wrist. Suddently, the dark grey
bell rang. The sound was as deep and dark as a tar pit. As it did,
some black electric-looking energy encircled the teacher's hand.
Deadly Twinkle held out her left arm and a glass-looking pyramid
started to form above it, starting from the bottom. When it was done,
the electric-looking energy dissapeared and the V-branch shrunk back
to its original size.
The black-suited girl examined the pyramid very attentively. After
a while, she shook her head with dissapointment.
- It's not there - she said, throwing the pyramid in the general
direction of her victim. It flew to the man's head and vanished
there. - They're all yours, Thinker - she added as a black mist
encircled her. It soon dissapeared along with Deadly Twinkle.
- Tinker! - shouted the demon as he turned to Sailor Andromeda.
'This is not good' she thought as it aimed its claws at her again...
- Blinding mist - said a voice. Meagen didn't notice anything
changing. Well, maybe things were a _little_ bit fuzzy, but she saw
the walls, tables and her teacher, still pinned to the wall, with no
difficulties.
The Thinker, however, suddently stopped and looked around, quite
confused. The papers holding the teacher and Sailor Andromeda's hair
flew down. Meagen stood up and looked around. She saw a woman in
a sailor suit with two long ponytails and bracelets made of huge
pearls with one large star in each bracelet. The stars had a small,
golden ball in the middle.
- Are you all right? - asked the woman.
- Yeah.. I guess. Who are you?
- I am Sailor Mintah.
Meagen was about to ask another question when suddently the woman
pushed her. Meagen stumbled back as more of the demon's pencil claws
were planted in the wall on her side.
- Sailor Andromeda! - called Iris from behind - Destroy that thing!
- How?!? - yelled Meagen.
- Use your tiara!
- Tiara? - Meagen patted her head. She felt a mettalic v-shaped band
with a round jewel in it.
- Yes! Say 'Cosmic Laserbeam' and point at the Thinker!
Meagen could feel energy flowing through her. Without thinking, she
crossed her arms in front of her chest.
- Cosmic... - she threw her arms up, uncrossing them, and the tiara
flew between her hands. She twirled around once and pointed at the
Thinker with her right hand, finishing - LASERBEAM!!!
A red beam shot out and hit the demon, turning it to dust.
The giant peices of paper and the pencils vanished.
- Good job! - exclaimed Iris walking over and jumping into Meagen's
arms. Meagen looked around for her new friend, but she was gone.
Next day, Meagen walked into the class room last. She threw Peter
a one-dollar bill and, when she was sure she got everyone's attention
with this unusual act, she shouted: - TWO!
- Yes, 'mam - siad Peter, straightening his glasses and showing no
particular sign of surprise - Marked down. But may I ask you if you
are absolutely sure that...
- Sure I'm sure! - replied Meagen cheerfully - after all, why not?
- Why not? - repeated Ann faintly - WHY NOT, SAYS THAT GIRL?!? - she
shouted, but then calmed down again - Meagen, for 4 years now he
NEVER EVER gave us less than FIVE excercises as homework. Not that
the're that hard, by the way. But what in the world could make you
belive that he'd just go and give us TWO excercises, just like that?
- she snapped her fingers, paused and then added - Not that I'd mind,
by the way.
- And why not? - said Meagen with an innocent smile.
-...and that's about it. For Wensday, I'd like you to do excercises:
one and four.
The class went silent. The teacher, a bit taken aback, repeated:
- One and four. That's it. Class dismissed.
Nobody moved.
- What ARE you all waiting for?!? I said, CLASS DISMISSED!
The usual blabbling and hasteful packing up wich marked the end of
a school day finally started. The teacher sighed with relief. He
didn'tnotice, however, that the blabbling was even louder and the
packing even quicker than usually.
One question was on everyone's minds and on everyone's lips.
- Meagen, HOW THE HECK DID YOU KNOW?!?!?
The center of attention flashed her most innocent smile and replied
calmly: - Just a wild guess!
