I know I'm new, but I'm sticking my nose in with my own answer to this 
question: practicality.

    The facts are in: aside from the badly dubbed SM and DBZ, Ranma is the 
most available anime where I live. I have seen 10 OAV's of Ranma, which is 
more anime of one series than I've seen of BGC, Tenchi, Slayers, etc. Its 
easier to get (fairly good) dubbed Ranma than subtitled animes. Sorry, its 
all about money.

    Having said that, most of my fics are SM, anyway, :P
