I dont think Korea would be involved in an invasion because they wood have
neutralize our task force and outcrops on the 38th parole. to quote from the
movie Torii Torii Torii I don' t know what would infuriate the Americans
more, and I beleve we have awaken a sleeping giant and filled him wit great
resolved" This was spoken by a man who knew the us very well to bad his
leaders did not listen to him. I do not anyone would want to make that
mistake and besides they a not as dumb as they look only half that . But if
they did the payback would not look pretty ESP when we got done with them
and left the rest for the Japanese to clean up and watch over to paraphrase
add William halsey the Korea language would be spoken in Hell .

Good point. I was thinking of their nearest
neighbors, China, Korea, Russia.

In terms of 'The Most Likely to Squash Japan like a
bug and enjoy it' China or Korea.IMO this looks like
the work of a regualr army composed of people who
REALLY do not like the Japanese. And right next door
we have a very large military composed of people who
have every reason to do to the Japanese what the
Japanese did to them, China and Korea.

Russia----they could use the industrial base, they
have a lot of un-paid soldiers----Russia would be a
good choice for either:
1) a real military invasion, sanctioned by the central
government (or one of the break-away republic's) They
could try to take the entire country and keep it OR
they might just want to hold it for
ransom.(implausible, but then Tom Clancy gave us a
second war with Japan. ^_^)

2) an army composed of hungry, unpaid soldiers looking
for loot. Modern Pirates or Vikings on the grand
scale. Further, a _legitimate_ invasion could be
covered with the originating government claiming that
the soldiers were mutineers, deserters, etc. This
would fit in with the lack of identification.

Assuming an invasion by regular troops. I would
postulate either a quick nuclear or chemical strike
strike to take out ground, air and marine defense
forces. ( A LOT of luck wouldn't hurt) IF this worked
the invaders could get armor, artillery and support
equipment ashore. IT they integrated within civilian
population centers they could forestall a counter
strike by the US. HOWEVER, there is usually a US
carrier task force cruising around in the area. So,
you have to take out not only the Japanese but also
the carrier(s). Could be two of them. The US has some
strong treaty obligations with Japan. So the invaders
are going to have the remnants of the JSDF plus the US
military to contend with. And, using either a nuclear
or chemical strike isn't going to win them any
friends.

I don't imagine a terrorist group being able to field
the necessary firepower to hold off even the riot
police for several days. Unless having unlimited
funding OR inside help. You might postulate one of the
Japanese ultra-nationalist groups trying to stage a
coup. The invasion could be a ploy to show up the diet
as weak. Then, the ultra-nationalists come in, kick
out the "invaders "and take power.

The JSDF

Not that small, either. I believe I read somewhere
that
Japan succeeded to Iraq's title as fourth largest
"army"
in the world, after Desert Storm.
