Narrator: Ash Ketchum, Pok�mon Master, is training in the Cosmic Elite
League to win the right to become one of the Elite. His first Gym
Battle, for the Mars Badge, went out poorly. Will Ash try again?

ASH: Ninetales and Fire Fights
==============================

Ash and Pikachu were slumbering peacefully when a hand woke them up.
"Wakey wakey," said a voice which Ash recognized as Brock's.

"Mmm..." mumbled Ash, snapping open his eyes. "Morning, Brock."

"You'd better get dressed while I cook breakfast for you two," said Brock with a smile. "I talked to Rei and she wants to have a rematch."

"I dunno, " said Ash. "Maybe after a little training..."

"Don't worry, you'll win," said Brock. "I had a long talk with
her and we..." He blushed. "I mean, I..."

Ash got up and rubbed his eyes, then looked at Brock. "Brock? You seem
out of it today. Are you sure it's a good idea to fight Rei again?"

"Trust me," said Brock, smiling. "It's a good idea to have a rematch."

"Okay," said Ash, getting up and dressing. "Let me get something to
eat first,and then I need to see if my Squirtle's ready."

"Pika pi," said Pikachu, shaking his head.

"Huh?" asked Ash. "YOU want to fight Rei's Pok�mon?"

"Chu!" said Pikachu, nodding.

"But," said Ash. "Squirtle was defeated. You might not win."

Pikachu smiled and shook his head.

"Come to think of, Ash," said Brock. "Pikachu did gain a speed boost
recently. Maybe speed is the key to this battle."

"Hmmm..." said Ash. "Maybe you're right. We can win, right Pikachu?"

"Pika!" said Pikachu, running off.

"Hey, what about breakfast?" asked Brock.

"We'll get something on the way!" said Ash, running after Pikachu.

Brock shook his head and smiled. ~Ash seems to have recovered...~

"I saw it in my fire!" said Rei to the girls gathered there. "A strange 
symbol on Misty's forehead! Look..." She sketched out the symbol on a 
piece of paper. It looked like a ten-pointed star. Luna was shocked.

"That symbol...I remember," said Luna. "That is the symbol of the
Neptunian moon Naiad. It is deceptively small - the power that the
moon derives is about the same power level as Mercury's."

"How can that be?" asked Ami. "That moon is a mere fraction of my 
planet's size, it cannot possibly derive THAT much power."

Artemis nodded. "Believe it, Ami-chan. Princess Coral infused the power
of her father's planet, which had been destroyed by Saturn's glaive during the first wave of Dark Kingdom attacks, into the moon. She 
gathered her magical power from there."

"So," said Michiru demurely. "My sister's plan worked after all." The 
others looked at her with looks of puzzlement. She smiled. "I seem to
remember, through occassional flashbacks, my sister Coral. She had left 
the Neptunian Kingdom of Poseidon to create her own little kingdom on 
one of the moons. We never heard from her again. In fact, the last time 
I ever saw her in that era was just before the Dark Kingdom's attack..."

	Princess Coral came up to her sister, Princess Calypso, "Sister,
	I have come to fight...and die...with you."

	"So, you know," said Calypso(Michiru) softly.

	"Yes. You will all die," sobbed Princess Coral. She had short
	pink-orange hair tied back in a ponytail. "I've gathered the
	power to become a Sailor Senshi." She raised her hand up and
	spun about, now wearing her Sailor fuku. "I love you, sister."

"So, that was who joined the Inners in the big fight with Metallia,"
said Luna thoughtfully. "I wondered why I didn't spot her before."

"I feel guilty," said Hotaru sadly. "I wish I hadn't destroyed her 
father, but I had no choice. If I hadn't destroyed Nemesis, the Dark 
Kingdom would have won and we would have not have been reborn."

"I am sure she understands," said Artemis softly. "Now, what about
Misty? Do you tell her right off the bat that she's a Senshi?"

"No, not with her friends around," said Haruka. "They shouldn't know
about our identities. We must confront her alone."

"Yes, I should be the one to tell her, since she is my sister," stated
Michiru. "I will try to talk to her as soon as possible."

"I hope so," said Usagi. "Luna-chan, do you have Misty's henshin pen?"

"I have it," said Artemis. "I was going to be the caretaker of the Lunar
Senshi's pens; I think I can call up Naiad's henshin pen." He stepped 
back and did the typical backflip that Luna had done several times in 
the past, and a strange pen clattered to the ground.

It was a light-blue marbled pen with the ten-pointed star in a silver 
crescent-shaped head,similar to the star-shaped heads of the Inner 
Senshi's henshin pens. Usagi picked it up and handed it to Michiru.

"Sugoi!" said Usagi. "Now all we do is confront Misty."

"If I'm right," said Rei with a smirk. "They'll be here soon. Brock
promised me that Ash'll come early this morning for the rematch."

"Oh ho!" said Rei's grandfather as the three trainers came back.
"Back for more? Rei is in the Great Fire room with her friends."

"Good, we can get this over with quickly," said Ash firmly. He
stormed into the room, just as Rei had gestured for silence. "Rei
Hino! I want a rematch for the Aries Badge!"

"I was waiting for you," said Rei. She and the others stood up.

"Oh!" said Misty. "Haruka, Michiru, Usagi! Why are you three here?" She 
knelt down to meet eyes with the black-haired girl. "And who are you?"

"My name is Hotaru Tomoe," said the girl, bowing.

"She's about your age, Ash," commented Brock.

"Hmph," said Ash, trying to focus his mind on Rei. "You may have beat
me by a cheap shot, but I won't lose easily. Come on!"

"Pika pika!" hissed Pikachu, taking a fierce stance.

"Good for me," said Rei. The others took places around the ring. Michiru 
slipped up to Misty and discreetly slipped the Naiad pen into Misty's
Pok�mon bag. She hoped that Misty would find it and be curious. She took
out her Deep Aqua Mirror and looked into it. An image of Misty appeared.
She was wearing something like a Sailor fuku - the image was blurry, but
it was slowly coming into focus, mayhe because of the pen.

~I knew it,~ Michiru thought.

"Go,Minerva!" ordered Rei. The Ninetales emerged.

"Pikachu, I choose you!" said Ash.

"Pikachu!" said Pikachu, leaping off Ash's shoulder. He scampered up
to the Ninetales and shook her paw. [Let's have a fair match, okay?]

[Sure,] said Minerva.

"Okay, folks!" said Rei's grandpa, who had come out with the gong.
"Remember the rules! You two beat each other up until a minute is
over or one of you faints." He rang the gong. "FIGHT!"

Rei wasted no time. "Minerva! Celestial Fire, now!"

"Pikachu, Agility attack!" ordered Ash.

Pikachu dashed with all his might, swiftly evading the rings of fire.
He landed on Minerva's head and shoved off, knocking her down.

"Pretty good," said Rei with a smirk. "Of course, I didn't expect
less from the Pikachu who beat Lt. Surge and Koga, two of the best
Pok�mon League members." She whistled. "Minerva, use your Fire Spin!"

"NINE!" said the Ninetales, breathing fire. Pikachu deftly evaded it.

"Hit it with your Thundershock!" ordered Ash.

"Pika pika CHUU!!!" cried Pikachu, his cheeks flashing. A bolt of
lightning ripped through the air, clipping the Ninetale's side.

"Oh no, poor thing!" said Usagi in horror.

"Stop wailing, odango," muttered Haruka. She was impressed by Pikachu.
~What an interesting Pikachu. Ash must have trained it well.~

"Celestial Fire again!" ordered Rei. The flame rings were fired.

"Pikachu..." said Ash.

"Oh no..." said Misty in horror.

"SWIFT ATTACK!" screamed Ash.

"PIKACHU!!!" cried Pikachu, flashing its cheeks again. This time,
energy stars flew out of them and ripped apart the rings of fire.

Rei was aghast. ~Nobody has ever defeated that attack before!~

"Aha!" said Ash. "I knew you had a weakness! Now, Pikachu...finish it!"

Suddenly shadows appeared on the window shutters.

"Huh?" said the Senshi.

"Oh no,not THEM again..." muttered Ash,hanging his head.

"To protect the world from devestation."

"To unite all peoples within our nation."

"To denounce the evils of truth and love."

"To extend our reach to the stars above!"

"Jesse!" Jesse flung one window open.

"James!" James flung the other window open.

"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"

"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"

"Meowth! That's right!" said the Meowth as he burst into the scene. He 
sniffed and screamed, as his tail had somehow caught fire again. He 
dashed around madly, finally putting it out by smothering it in a potted plant. Everyone sweatdropped, then finally reacted.

"You!" shouted Rei. "This is a sacred place!"

"Oh, forgive our irreverence," teased James, taking a whiff of his rose.

"Yes, please do," said Jesse, brandishing an ice cannon bazooka. "Good
thing I salvaged this from Cinnabar Isle. Nobody move!"

"EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" squealed Usagi as she grabbed Haruka. "MAMO-CHAN!!"

"Get...off...odango atama!" shouted Haruka, pulling off the crying girl.

"Shut up, odango!" Rei shouted to Usagi. Usagi shut up. She turned to 
them. "You aren't getting the Pok�mon!" She charged, but Jesse blasted her with the cannon, sending her crashing in the wall.

"REI-CHAN!!!!!" cried Usagi.

"That does it!" hissed Ash angrily. "You went too far!" He charged,
yanking off a Pok�ball to blast the jerks into Low Earth Orbit.

"Why you don't stay and have a BALL, Ash?" teased James, blasting
his own cannon. A ball of goo sent Ash into the others, covering them
in a sticky goo. Usagi recognized the slimy substance.

~This was what Eudial used in the Marine Cathedral!~ she thought.

The two Pok�mon took a stance,but Meowth threw two lassos and tied
them up. "Yippee hi hey!" he laughed. "Let's get out of here!"

"Right," said James, calling out Weezing. "Weezing, use Smokescreen."

"WEE-ZING!" it croaked, spewing smoke and causing the room to be filled 
with a black smoky fog that let the villians get away. They hopped into 
their balloon and flew off before the others could escape.

"PIKACHU!" cried Ash, trying to get free.

"MINERVA! NO!" cried Rei. She shakily got up. The ice shards that Jesse
had blasted her with had lanced her chest and side, but she didn't quit.

"Rei-chan, you're hurt," said Hotaru in worry.

"Gotta...stop...Team Rocket..." moaned Rei, lurching out of the room.
She whistled to her two Fearows as soon as she got outside. "Phobos! 
Deimos! After them! Don't let them get away!"

"Row! Row!" they cawed, flapping up and flying off.

Rei raised her red henshin pen, then checked to make sure that nobody 
was around. "MARS STAR POWER, MAKE-UP!" Fire flowed from the tip of the 
wand and covered her body, forming her fuku.

"Nya ha ha!" said Meowth. "This was SO easy! The Boss is gonna be
happy as a Cloyster to see these special Pok�mon!"

"Yeah!" said James.

Hanging from the balloon in mid-air, Pikachu and the Ninetales were
talking to each other. [Sorry about that,] sighed Pikachu. [Since I beat 
the crap out of those two in Viridian City a long time ago, they have
been hunting me constantly. I got you involved accidently.]

[Don't be ashamed,] said Minerva. [Master Rei loves me very much.
She trained me from the instant that I was captured near Saffron
City. I was still a Vulpix back then, you know.]

[Why did you evolve?] asked Pikachu curiously. [Did Rei...?]

[No, I wasn't forced to evolve,] said Minerva. [I chose to evolve.]

[But why?] asked Pikachu. [I don't like the thought of being a Raichu.]

Minerva shook her mane. [I decided to evolve because it made me 
stronger and prettier. If you think you are strong enough, that 
is okay. To each Pok�mon his or her own.]

[I see,] said Pikachu.

Just then, they saw a woman wearing a short red skirt running under
them. [Master Rei!] said Minerva. [She's coming!]

[That's Rei?] asked Pikachu in shock.

[Yes, she has the ability to use fire when she is wearing that,] said 
Minerva. [However, it is a secret she won't let anyone know.]

[So she IS one of the Sailor Senshi!] said Pikachu. [I was correct!]

[Don't tell your master or anyone else,] warned Minerva.

[I won't tell Ash,] promised Pikachu as Sailor Mars grabbed the rope 
hanging from the balloon. She climbed up it, but Meowth saw her.

"Oh damnit!" cried the cat. "It's that crazy Sailor Mars! Quick, cut
the rope before she throws her fire attacks!"

Team Rocket began frantically cutting the rope...

*SNAP* The rope broke and Mars fell...onto the back of a Charizard.

"You okay?" asked Ash,who was riding on it too.

"A-A-Ash!" said Mars in shock. "How did...you have a Charizard?!"

"Long story," said Ash. "Maybe I can tell you some time."

The Fearows reached the Team Rocket and harrassed the three evil
villians as Charizard flew up to the nets.

"This should be simple," said Mars. "BURNING MANDALA!"

Rings of fire flew from her hands and severed the ropes,allowing the
nets with Pikachu and Minerva to fall onto the Charizard.

"Charizard, fly up to the balloon...and BLAST IT!!" ordered Ash.

"CHAR!" cried the red dragon creature. Flying over the balloon, it
exhaled a gout of lethal fire onto the gasbag.

"Huh?" asked James. He sniffed. "Something's cooking."

Jesse looked up and screamed. "OUR BALLOON!!!"

The balloon was on fire. The three tried to put it out but, since they
had no water Pok�mon to fight the fire, they failed miserably. The trio
fell towards the ocean. "Seems like Team Rocket..." said James.

"...is blasting off again!!" cried Jesse.

*SPLASH* The balloon landed in the Tokyo bay.

"Charizard, take us back to Hikawa Shrine," said Ash.

"You go, I've got to leave," said Mars, leaping off and landing on
an awning below. She had to do that so she could detransform without
anyone knowing about her secret identity.

Ash landed in Hikawa Shrine to find Usagi, Brock, Misty, and Hotaru.
"Where are the others?" asked Ash curiously.

"They went to get the police," said Hotaru. Just then, Rei came out.

"Sorry about that," said Rei sheepishly. "Sailor Uranus and Sailor
Neptune told me that everything is taken care of. I see that you got
my Ninetales back, Ash." She took the Ninetales into her arms and
then groomed it. "Ash, you did good. I didn't expect anyone like
you to have a Charizard. "Let me make you a deal...I'll trade you 
that Charizard for the badge." She waited for his answer.

Ash thought a bit, then shook his head. "Sorry about that, Rei, but I 
can't accept your offer. A Pok�mon badge is a symbol of a trainer's
skill in combat. I didn't like it when Misty's sisters forced the
Cascade Badge on me. I felt like a wimp accepting the Badge."

Misty gasped. ~Ash ADMITS that he didn't want the badge like that?~
she thought. She looked at him with respect. ~Ash, I didn't know...~

"That's why I can't accept this badge," said Ash somberly. "A badge
shows how good you fight in a Gym, not how generous the Leader is."

Rei was now the one to look at Ash in respect. ~And I thought he was
just a conceited trainer...~ she thought. She nodded and stood up.
"Okay, I'll do it this way this way then. You remind me of Usagi. She 
is so stupid and crazy, but she does her best. I give you this badge
as a reward for saving Minerva from those bandits." She summoned the 
ofuda with the badge on it. "Is that acceptable?"

"I dunno..." said Ash, still hesitantly.

"You earned it, Ash," said Rei. "You saved Minerva from some fate
I don't want to think about, and that makes you a winner in my book.
Take the badge - nobody will look down on you because I gave it to you."

Pikachu nodded, so did the Ninetales. Ash plucked the Aries Badge from
the ofuda and smiled. "ALL RIGHT!" he said in triumph, doing a dramatic
pose with the proper background graphics. "I've got an Aries Badge!"

"Pika pika!" said Pikachu.

"Nine!" said Minerva.

"Oh, I still want the Charizard," said Rei. "It's so beautiful."

"Well..." said Ash. He turned to his Charizard. "You wouldn't mind?"

"Char," said Charizard, shaking his head. He licked Rei's cheek.

"Eew! Stop it!" laughed Rei. She took out another Pok�ball. "I never
took a Pok�mon without fair trade, so..." She opened the ball.

"Charmander," said the little fire lizard that came out.

"A Charmander!" cried Ash in awe.

"Yeah, a mutated one," sighed Rei. "After I used my TM on it, it was
unable to evolve. Maybe it's got a superiority complex or something.
What do you say, Ash? My Charmander for your Charizard?"

"Deal," said Ash, shaking her hand. He loved Charmander more than the
evolved Charizard because it was cute instead of mean and vicious.

"Oh, and Brock..." said Rei with a sly smile. "How about we meet 
somewhere and uh...share a milkshake?"

Brock smiled back. "Sure thing, Rei-chan."

"Rei-chan?!" asked Misty. She then giggled. "Oho, seems Brock has a new crush! Tell us all about her!" She then sniffed. "Do you smell something 
burning." With dark realization, she discovered that it was her hair. 
"AAAAAAAH!!! MY HAIR!!" She leapt into the stream.

"Ha ha ha ha," everyone laughed as Misty came out, soaked.

"Nine nine nine," chuckled Minvera, who had ignited Misty's hair.

"Very funny, guys," spat Misty. She threw Staryu at Ash.

"Why me?" asked Ash. "Everyone else was laughing, too!"

"Everyone else doesn't owe me for a new BIKE!"

"You're still..."

"Yes, I still remember that! What'd you think, I came along for my health? You listen to me, Ash Ketchum..."

"She reminds me of me when I first met Mamo-chan," sighed Usagi.

Rei laughed. "Somehow, I don't think things will turn out quite the same
between those two. It's not like they were destined lovers or such..."

The others walked back into the shrine as Ash and Misty continued to argue about the bike. Pikachu and the Ninetales shook their heads.
