You know, ever since the idea of 'Ranma in Rome' got mentioned, the old
contention of "Is Kasumi Christian?" kept re-playing itself on my head.	I
do not know how well it would play on this time-displaced Soun, but can
you picture it?

(Cue in waterworks, as Soun Tendo begins to wail.) WAHHHH! "This is
terrible! My eldest daughter has joined a cult!"

"I'll say! She said she is giving up all her possesions to be shared
among their community! What kind of a religion makes you give up
hard-earned money & goods? They must be insane!" Said the second eldest.

"Not everyone's world revolves around a money purse, Nabiki. Some of us
wouldn't mind a world where people were a bit less greedy and more
understanding of each other, you know." Said the youngest.

"You're just saying that because you're tired of fending off all those
gladiator school rejects every morning, Akane. Besides, where would we be
now, if Kasumi's world was real? If we all 'loved each other as brothers'
as she said, what room would there be for a fighting school? What would
dad do for a living, Akane? Let's face it sis, it is a sweet dream, but
it could not stand up to real life.
Besides, I think she's mostly there because that healer she's been
training under is one of them. He is decent looking, in a goofball kind
of way, and his earnings as a healer would make him a worthy husband."

"Nabiki!! Kasumi is not like that, and you know that! She's just a
little naive about people, that's all."

It is just a possible setup, of course, with Nabiki's character wavering
between her loyalty to family and her oposition to her elder sister's
emerging christian ethics, a sympathetic, if wary, Akane, and a distraught
father, who's worried about all three of them. Specially if the story's
set at the beginning of christian persecution by the Romans. (Can you
spell 'Ranma & Akane save Kasumi from the lions?' Good, I knew you could.)
Heck, there's probably enough material there for a short series on its'
own right. It has definite potential for drama and lots of character
development.
And of course, I will probably never write it, which is why it is going
out to the list as is.
Everybody, feel free to pick it apart or ignore it completely, as is your
right.

As for "Sabura" itself, I'll be waiting to see more. It has the potential
to be yet another really interesting [ALT] Ranma series, and I love the
setup. Can't wait to see how Ranma's ego deals with the (admitedly
stereotyped) pride of 'typical' Roman citizens.
