I guess it was selfish of me. I was trying to
avoid making a never-ending discussion, but I can't
stop people from expressing their opinions. Mr. Kleppe
and those that were offended by my post, please accept
my apology.

For the record, I wasn't offended by anything VGAP said; I just wasn't
willing to bow out of this discussion on his say-so.

Also, while I do agree that there is no way Ranma's friendship with
Ukyou could be stronger than his love for Akane, but it isn't as weak of
Gary Kleppe made it sound. Ranma hardly ends up eating at the Nekohanten
when he's got problems(there are example, but they escape me at the
moment).

He never does that at Ukyo's, either.

I'm not saying that he feels the need to always confide in Ukyou. He
does, however, go to her place to get away/think/brood about his
problems.

Nope. That's fanfic myth. In all thirty-eight volumes, there's not ne
scene where Ranma went to Ukyo for a heart-to-heart talk. I've
repeatedly challenged the Ukyo fanboys to show me where in the manga he
did this, and they've never been able to answer.

All I'm saying is that he goes to Ukyou's every so often when he has
problems. I'm not saying it's for a heart-to-heart. He's probably just
trying to fill his stomach while brooding. I'm not arguing about the best
friend for life argument for now, but I still think that they're friends.
He doesn't object to her presence. Gambling King, the Sauce, and the
Moxibustion incidents are examples. They don't show a great friendship, but
they do show friendship. Do you really think Ranma would accept Shampoo's
continual presence, even in similar incidences? If you can find an example
please tell me.
Um, I haven't seen the Sauce series, but in the Moxibustion, he didn't
seek Ukyou out, he hid nearby and she found him and brought him in. In the
Gambling King, he sought her out because they had a shaired history with GK
who Ranma wanted to beat up. He doesn't go to Ucchan's because he has a
problem, he has a problem and winds up at Ucchan's as a side effect of dealing
with it.
The difference between Shampoo and Ukyou is that Shampoo tends to be
more obvious in her attempts at geting Ranma, while Ukyou's scheeming is to
subtle for Ranma to spot. If Shampoo were to tone down her attempts at
atracting Ranma's interest, he'd have no objections to her presence.
Anyways, the question isn't whether or not Ukyou is Ranma friend,
since Ranma even considers Kodachi a friend, It's whether or not Ranma has
ever shown any signs of valuing his friendship to her more highly than any of
the others. I can't think of one myself.
