This particular theme is, quite literally, a classic.

Who is wondering how many Graeco-Latin myths were nothing more than
fanfics about the writer's favourite divine entities.

And whether, mayhaps, some fanfics of today might count among the
classics of the future?

Pluto put the book back on its shelf. Her fingers almost refused to let
it go, knowing the symbology of the moment...but it was only a symbol.
Her knowledge of the future had already ended; this was merely
acknowledgement of that fact. Sighing regretfully, she turned away from
the bookshelf, intending never to open these particular tomes again.

She kept her gaze at her feet, trying to dissapate her sorrow - which
was why she did not see Mercury before bumping into her.

"So *there* you are!" Mercury regained her footing first, and extended
a hand to help Pluto up. "I've been looking all over for you. The New
Century's bash is about to start, and the Chief Partymaker By Order Of
The Queen ordered me to find you and make sure you don't miss this one."

Pluto smiled in spite of herself. "Venus is being herself again, I
see."

"What were you doing back here, anyway? There's nothing..." Mercury
blinked. "You know, I was here yesterday, and I could have sworn those
books weren't there."

"I've been putting them away. They're a collection of mine."

The bibliophile in Mercury had never died, even though it had now been
twelve years since she last read a paper book. Almost before she was
aware of it, she had pulled out one of the volumes and began flipping
through its pages. "These are rather ancient..." Her visor flickered
into existence. "My computer must be malfunctioning. It's telling me
these are at least a thousand years old."

"No malfunction. Late 20th century. Recognize the author?"

Mercury looked up. "The 'Second Nostradamus'?"

Pluto nodded. "That author's works told the future. No one knows how,
but events over the past thousand years played out exactly according to
the stories..."

"But those stories were all so vague. No originals survived, and by the
time events came around, all the stories had been retold so many times,
they were useless to predict the future."

"Few originals survived. You're holding one now."

Mercury slowly put the book back. "You realize we're going to have to
declare these a national treasue."

Pluto shrugged. "Go ahead. The last story was about ten years ago.
You remember...the last time I told anyone what was going to happen?"

Mercury blinked, then let a slow smile creep across her face. "I should
have known you had something like this up your sleeve. Come on, we're
late for the party." She took Pluto's arm in her hand and lead her
away. "So, tell me: did you know this Eff F. Emmell?"
