Mononoke Hime was absolutely awesome. Its English counterpart was one
of
the best dubs ever. I just think that Eboshisama sounded WAY too much
like
Lara Croft, is all. I don't want to check the credits of either the
game
or the movie to find out if they are the same person, because if there
are
TWO people with that voice, then I may find life has lost all its
meaning.
Every time I hear THE VOICE, I just want to tear apart small,
defenseless
kodama.
Now that I'm through the rant, here is some silliness.
Shishigami short:
Halloween with the Shishigami (or should I be saying, "The Forest
Spirit?")
It's Halloween, and you've been handing out assorted Twix, Snickers, and
lollipops in general to ghoulies and ghoblins for two hours. There is a
knock at the door, and a shout of "Trick or treat!" as there had been
all
night. You grab two little candies for the mite and pull back the
off-white
portal of entrance to reveal...
A teenager in jeans and a Van Halen T-shirt, for one, but that is not
why
you fall to the floor laughing. The cause of your merriment is due to
the
face of an exceptionally accurate Shishigami mask staring at you. You
pull
open the door, tears streaming down your face, and place the candy in
the
pillowcase, trying hard not to burst out again. The teenager thanks you
and moves on.
Slowly, you cease laughing. Where the boy's right foot had been, there
was now a pile of dead leaves. To the left, a patch of fresh greenery.
You are standing with your jaw agape for nearly two minutes before--you
burst out laughing again! It was just too much! You feel as though
you're
never going to burst, sure that this is the funniest thing you've ever
seen.
Then, the sun sets completely, and you catch a glimpse across the
street
of that same teen's head beginning to stretch out, out toward the moon,
as his Van Halen shirt morphs into some hair-gel-like substance.
After three minutes, you pass out from lack of oxygen.
What did they tell YOU? That they wanted the head so the Emperor could
be immortal?
Oh, and because I love throwing my opinion around, The Rurouni Kenshin
OVA's
were still the best anime I've ever seen. Mononoke comes in a close
second,
though. Now, if it had been based around the Kodama, then maybe...
