This is a pet peeve of mine.
For Pete's sake, if you're going to use ASCII art, make sure you
compose it using a non-proportional font!
If you use a proportional font, the character widths are dependent
on the particular font you use. Therefore, not only will it not
display properly using a non-proportional font, but it may not
even display properly using a different proportional font.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I tend to regard ASCII art
that is messed up because it was composed in a proportional font
to be a sure sign of incompetence -- sort of the equivalent of
saying, "Where's the 'any' key?"
