I'm hardly a long-time member of FFML. It has
only
been about an year and half since I joined, maybe a
little longer or shorter. But I like this mailing
list,
and I hope it continues forever.
Unfortunately, in recent months, I have seen some
less than ideal discussions that can be interpreted as
being quite hostile. Sometimes, there are people
getting chewed out or punished for doing things they
aren't supposed to. I don't blame the moderators one
bit for doing so; every time I have seen them do it,
they were very justified. It's the increase in
frequency of such conflicts that worries me.
Back when I posted my first fanfic, FFML appeared
to be a more pleasant place for intellectual,
friendly,
and entertaining interactions between fanfiction
writers. That's not to say that there weren't any
kinds
of conflict, but they seemed less often and severe, at
least to my memory.
Maybe I'm being paranoid and worrying about
nothing. Conflict is one of the most basic nature of
human being, and it is inevitable in any group of
people. Nevertheless, I gain less enjoyment from
reading my mails these days and am saddened to see
this
trend continue.
As I have no real authority, I can only hope that
this little message will ease the situation and cause
the counterproductive posts to decrease in future. I
believe that if you have a problem with the moderation
team, you should take it up to them, not conduct it in
a poorly concealed manner on the list.
FFML is for fun... but not at the expense of
others. Or am I wrong?
