it's magic, by definition it has no explanation.  It's origins are a
mystery (as are the Jusenkyou springs).  Human belief in magic may not
have existed 65m years ago, but that does not preclude magic's existance.

that depends on how the curse works, because of the posibility of
personality based curses (Tarou tried to get Spring of Drowned Saint water
to use on Happosai in the Manga and the anime had a man who fell into
Spring of Drowned Pacifist) it's entirely possible that Ranma was given
the personality of a dino rather than just his body

how good a dino's eyesight was but a Bronto or other large plant eater
might not have been able to tell the difference between the guide and a
large bush.

well the dino could of been a plant eater
and thus could of mistaken the guide for a leafy bush
