Everybody's forgotten La Femme Nuku-Nuku already?
Oh well, here's something else to forget.
------------------------------
"Take it easy Shinji, one step at a time."
His grandfather didn't have to remind him. Even with the city evacuated,
Shinji couldn't stand the thought of falling over in such an absurd mecha.
He paused and turned to the right to look at the mecha's reflection in the
mirrored windows of an office tower. The rest of the mecha matched what
he'd been able to see from the launch center at NERV. It looked like a
cross between a stick figure and a street mime in red and white with two
tuffs of black "hair" standing out on either side of its head like horns.
When he'd asked his grandfather why it had to look so silly, the old man
had said something about an invisible wall before going back to the launch
preparations.
"The angel is to your left Shinji, about two miles to the northwest."
His grandfather didn't have to tell him which way to go. Shinji had never
seen a storm like this before. Lightning flashed up into the sky from one
point on the ground. There was the monster that threatened the Earth.
Step by step, Shinji strode towards the source of the storm. It felt like
he was walking against the wind and he pushed the palms of his mecha
forwards to keep his balance.
He climbed a series of hills, like steps and looked down at the monster
that had shorted out the car earlier.
The yellow and brown monster stopped rubbing against the nuclear power
plant it had been draining energy from and crouched back on it's haunches
as it saw Shinji's mecha. "PI KA!", Its growl echoed across the valley.
Shinji moved the white "gloved" hand of his mecha to its "belt" as he
reached for his only weapon. He looked at the monster and then back at
the weapon. How was a fifty foot long mouse going to fit in a six foot
diameter red and white sphere? "Professor Oak, I don't know..."
"You must Shinji! Humanity's future depends on capturing some of the
angels and training them to use their powers against the rest!"
------------------------------
In a later episode:
"Professor Oak, why is Rei's EVA carrying spoons?"
"Those are antenna Shinji, to focus her psychokinetic powers."
