Gotta add in my two bits on this...(yeah, I know I'm a lurker, shush.)

don't know much about slayers, but I too have first-hand knowledge about
pregnancy, including a multiple pregnancy (I had twins). Add in
exhaustion, nap attacks, and APPITITE. I was always hungry, from about two
weeks into the pregnancy 'til the end. (And after, if you count in the time
spent breast-feeding). Tender breasts (they hurt if you looked at them...)
started about two weeks intot eh pregnancy, and the morning sickness hit
with a vengeance about 4-6 weeks into the pregnancy. And the dizzy spells,
the sudden shift in balance, and the "food triggers". Certain smells would
cause bizarre reactions, anything from extreme nausea to massive hunger.
Of course, all this was with the twins. My first pregnancy was "perfect".
The twins made up for it. ANd the munchies. DId I mention hunger?

-SabreBabe, who has a fic in progress, not yet ready to post :)

After several false starts, I'm beginning a new 'fic, my first-ever Slayers
story, "The Homeless God". At the rate I write, it should be complete in
2002, though I'll try to go a little faster than usual. :-) I have to
admit to being a bit nervous, since this will be the first time I've
ventured into a universe that's already well-fan-written, although by the
time "Mother's Day" was finally finished, the same could be said about
Tenchi.

I have a few questions, and I would be very grateful for whatever answers I
can receive.

Well, I haven't gotten to see Slayers yet, so I'll confine myself to the
pregnancy issue :)

-- It is very important to the plot that a character suspect that she's
pregnant, without knowing for certain. Although the fact that she's "late"
is one clue, I need something else. For reasons I don't want to get into
here, her belly will never swell, despite her apparent condition, so what
does that leave me? I was thinking morning sickness. Does anyone know at
what point in a pregnancy that usually occurs? The pregnancy in question
advances at an accelerated rate, so I'm hoping I can make this work.

Well, it depends on the person, but it generally comes up around a
month, month-and-a-half into the pregnancy (around the same time as the
skipped period). I had "morning" sickness with both my daughters (for
which my vengeance will be complete when I bring out the
nude-baby-pictures on prom night) and that was about when it happened
both times. One thing to note, though - morning sickess does NOT only
happen in the morning. With my first, it was an occasional thing
brought on by the smell of food (particularly the egg-drop soup at the
restaurant where I worked), and could happen at any time of day - but it
only happened a few times a week. With my second, it was a constant
feeling of nausea, mild when I first got out of bed and gradually
getting stronger throughout the day. Every day. For three months. (No,
it was not pleasant.) It felt rather like being carsick - which was
what I though it was the first day it happened, since we spent much of
that day in the car.

Some other early symptoms are slightly swollen, tender breasts, or
excessive fatigue. For a first-time mother, the stomach doesn't begin
to swell for several months, and may not be noticeable even into the
fifth or sixth month, depending on the condition of the mother and
various other factors, so I wouldn't worry about the lack of a stomach
overmuch. There is also the "glow" of motherhood, but that's not so
much noticeable by the pregnant mother as those about her; if you wanted
to use it, you coul have another character comment on it.

Of course, one way to make this easier on yourself would be to have the
character actively worrying about being pregnant; this way, she could
blow every small symptom out of proportion, relying on her own
half-conceived notions of what the symptoms of pregnancy are - depends
on how much she might be expected to know. If she notices the skipped
period, she is more likely to take every ache, pain, and bout of food
poisoning as another "sign" that she really is pregnant.

Hope this helps! (If you would like more help with
pregnancy/childbirth/etc., please feel free to let me know!)
