But the way in which this story was told really didn't work for me.
Instead of being shown the story, we're dropped in *after* the story's
already over, and told about what we missed. It would IMO be a lot more
effective to *show* Akane cooking, *show* Ranma getting his idea
(perhaps by observing Ryoga as he's present in the scene) and *show* it
actually working.
