To those of you unfamiliar with my spirit within series. [[And a recap
for the rest of you.]] It starts as a self-insertion with Ranma 1/2 in
the first part, which is roughly thirty Chapters. In it someone [Me hence
the 'self' in self insertion.] Becomes Ranma Saotome and begins to
change things in the world. [He becomes very powerful way to early and
prevents the engagement with Akane from happening. He ends up dating her
and keeping it secret from the two meddlesome parents. Things go wildly
out of control and he ends up in a death match with The Amazon group from
China, and Ryoga and Ukyo almost switch rolls in his life. Ukyo becomes a
bitter rival and Ryoga becomes his best friend and student due to the
fact that he was never cursed in the first place. [Thanks to Ranma saving
his butt at Jusenkyo.] He and Ukyo take on a Ranma and Akane like
relationship and Ranma and Akane take on an almost sickeningly sweet
relationship. All because he changed a few little things that should have
happened.
In part 2 it opens with Ranma Dying at a very old age. The spirit of the
self-insertist. [Me again.] Doesn't go on to Heaven or hell. It instead
gets reborn into another world where it meets Makoto Mizuhara and begins
to train him [whether he likes it or not.] in the Anything Goes style.
After which he is transported to the world of El Hazard. He almost
destroys El Hazard after absorbing Ifurita's Demon God programming.
Spirit within part 3
The man once known as Sean thousands of years before stood and stared
his opponent down. This was the first time he had not tried to change his
destiny since his seemingly endless journey began. He had paid an awful
price because of it, but he supposed it was for the best. The man before
him swung at him and he raised his elbow to strike at his neck. He found
himself flying through the air and frowned as he landed. The man rushed
at him and Sean raised his leg and vanished as the punch nearly
connected. He appeared behind the man and uppercut him hard in the back
of the skull, he felt the power surge through him as he repeated it three
times and finally launched himself into the air with the final blow.
He stood and glared at the man on the ground with a cold stare that had
not wavered in the slightest. It was no surprise when the man rose
immediately from an attack that should have killed him instantly. A dark
smile spread across Sean's lips as he was beaten back by a vicious
combination. A single punch more and he would end this fight. The man hit
him hard in the gut sending him to the ground with a sickening thud. Sean
stood and sneered at him. His opponent raised his hands in anticipation;
he knew what was coming. Still it didn't matter. No one could survive it.
Sean rushed him and he ducked low, "No!" he thought as he was about to
connect; he realized what the man was doing. "Shin-" cried the opponent.
Sean tried to adjust the attack to stop him but it was to late. He saw
the world become a blue light of power and pain. The last words he heard
were the final attack of the man. "Shoryuken!" Sean felt his neck snap
from the pressure of the final blow and slumped to the ground as he
landed. "Heh, I landed on my feet," he thought. "Its funny what you think
of when you di..."
Ryu looked at the man on the ground and frowned. Akuma was finally
defeated. Not even the man who he had once thought dead could defeat him,
his old master Sheng Long. Some how he had, he felt no pride only the
emptiness of the end of a hard battle. He would travel again after his
wounds healed, looking for another greater challenge. He sighed as he
realized that would probably never come. His destiny was fulfilled. He
stood and walked away from the body into the setting sun. "Maybe I should
take on a student."
Sean sat in the familiar darkness yet again and thought about his
previous life, he had several others over the course of time. Some,
lasting thousands of years, but this one was the only one he considered
an utter failure. Never again would he allow himself to fall down the
dark path he had opened in it. He sat for months on end lamenting and
slowly building his confidence in himself back. "I am grateful that I
have lived so many good lives. Perhaps this one will allow me to redeem
myself?"
He felt the familiar sensations of adrenaline and fear course through
his body and the cycle began anew. Moments later he was hanging in the
air and struggling to focus his eyes and breathe. He felt the warm
embrace of his mother moments later, and a soft voice comforted him.
A few months later he lay in his crib. He listened to the voices coo and
coddle him and the shapes that started to focus around him became
clearer, soon he was beginning to recognize them but they were still
blurry and his instinct was lessening so he was no longer so attracted to
mere movement. Then one day he woke up and saw two faces clearly as his
eyes finally began to focus clearly. He looked up at the faces looking
down on him, one was calm and loving and the other was stern and slightly
pleasant still. He recognized them immediately and started to scream, his
dreams of redemption or finding peace with the god he still somehow
believed in were smashed before him. The woman looked worried and frowned
slightly lifting him to her breast. "Shinji dear what's the matter?" she
comforted.
"Now Yui he's probably just cranky." said his father with a small smile.
It vanished as he saw the look in his son's eyes. If he was older he
would have thought correctly that it was a look of fear, hatred, and
contempt for him. "Its probably just his muscles contracting." thought
the man.
11 years pass...
Shinji stood before his mother's grave and smiled at some of the
memories that played in his head. A shadow loomed over his back. "Hello
father," he said quietly.
"I was not expecting to see you here," snorted the man.
"Well, it is the anniversary of that day," said Shinji.
"Why did you run away?" asked Gendo coolly.
"Because I could not prepare for the coming storm with those people,
besides I was a burden to them." snorted Shinji.
"Storm?" asked Gendo with a small smile.
"Whatever it was that you are preparing for father," said Shinji
quietly.
"Whatever it was that was so important that you were willing to risk your
wife for."
"You know nothing," said Gendo quietly. It was a statement not a retort.
"I'm not judging you father, she thought it was just as important or she
would not have risked her own life so. She was smiling when I last saw
her and that is how I will remember her," said Shinji with a small smile.
"It was a good memory," said Gendo. "You will return with your Uncle."
Two large men came over and stood beside him.
"I have not forgiven you for abandoning me old man. I am not yours any
longer," snorted Shinji looking unimpressed.
"It was not a request, four years is too long to live alone for someone
your age," snorted his father. The men advanced on Shinji and he simply
stood still until they were almost on him. None of them saw him move.
A blur shot straight up and vanished over their heads. One of the men
clutched his face and screamed in pain and the other looked in shock at
the tattered remains of his shirt and jacket. Gendo felt something sharp
poking at his back. "Do not pretend that you don't know where to find me
father," said the boy with an intelligent smile as he returned the short
sword to the plain wooden hilt at his side.
Gendo looked at the men on the ground and smiled, "You are of course
still enrolled in school?" he said calmly.
"You know I am," said Shinji from behind him.
"Very well," said the man as he turned and returned to his chopper. He
was not surprised to find that Shinji was already gone. The men picked
themselves up and cursed loudly as they followed.
As the chopper lifted off Gendo looked and saw Shinji standing atop his
mothers grave marker gazing at the helicopter as it rose into the air.
Somehow it did not seem disrespectful in the slightest.
Three and a half years pass...
"Shinji a letter for you," said the elderly man who was dressed in
bright but simple robes. Shinji stopped sweeping the shrine steps and
took the letter from the man.
"Nerve," said Shinji looking at the envelope.
"So you must leave our humble shrine?" asked the head priest.
"Yes, and I fear I shall never return," said Shinji with a small frown.
"You will be sorely missed my old friend," said one of the younger
priest.
"Thank you." said Shinji to all of the men gathered.
He walked out of the temple and walked out of the temple. He was met at
the end of the road by a black car. One of the men stared at him with
angry eyes; he had a long scar down his face. "We have been ordered to
take you to the train station and give you this." He handed him an
envelope and frowned.
"Thanks old friend." said Shinji with a smirk as he entered the car.
"You know him?" asked the younger of the two as he entered the car.
The man sat down in the front of the car with his younger partner. "Yea,
keep your eyes on this one, he is extremely dangerous."
"That scrawny little kid?" snorted the man. He turned and looked at the
boy in the back seat. He didn't look any different than any other boy
other than his slight resemblance to Commander Ikari. The young guy
didn't even recognize that. In fact he looked like a bit of a wimp. He
was wearing a dark pair of slacks and a white shirt and undershirt. The
only difference the man could see was his eyes that shone with
intelligence and something else, it unnerved him a little and he turned
back to his partner.
"He's the Commander's son and he gave me this," snorted the man as he
pointed at the scar his face.
"I think you should give it back, its all old and wrinkled," snorted the
other man as he drove.
In the back Shiji opened the envelope given to him and smiled as he
looked at the photo of the woman who was supposed to meet him that she
had obviously sent him. An arrow had been drawn to her cleavage with
"Check this out!" written as the caption next to it; she had also kissed
it.
"I think I'm supposed to be impressed," he chuckled to himself.
Several hours later he arrived at Tokyo 3 and as he expected the streets
were empty. Shinji placed his large draw string travel bag down at his
side and sat patiently until the military flew backwards and the missiles
began to shoot by him playing hell on his ears. A few moments later the
gigantic monster known to him as the angel 'Sachiel' stomped his way by
and shot down a few planes. One of them crashed down near by and the
angel launched itself into the air and landed on it causing an explosion.
Shinji stood calmly as the car drove up next to him and shielded him from
most of the debris. The door opened and the woman from the photo was
smiling at him. "Get in, I hope I'm not real late,"
"I'm Misato nice to meet ya. Your Shinji right?" said the woman.
"Who else would be standing in the middle of this mess? I would think
Sachiel would be a bit cleaner thought," said Shinji cheerfully.
"What?" said Misato as she floored the gas and speed away from the
angel's foot just in time. The pavement shattered and shook the car
violently.
"Well he is the third angel predicted in the Dead Sea scrolls isn't he?"
asked Shinji calmly.
"Uh, I guess...How do you know that?" said Misato warily.
"I grew up in a monastery my dear Katsuragi-san," said Shinji with an
intelligent smile.
"Misato is fine," said the woman with a small wave. "What a weird kid,"
she thought as she turned her attention to the road.
After about a half-hour of driving Misato was humming when she turned
her head and pulled over to the side of the road. "Let's have a look
see," she said as she pulled out her binoculars.
Shinji stepped out of the car and stood several feet out in front of it.
"Why are all those ships pulling away?" he thought, then he remembered.
"Oh shit!"
"No! There gonna use and N-2 mine Get in the car!" cried Misato but it
was too late. The first wave of the blast hit and Shinji crossed his arms
and cried out in pain from the sheer heat and force of the wave. The car
was blasted back and rolled several hundred feet back. Shinji crouched
lower and grit his teeth as he fought a losing battle against the wave of
energy that enveloped him and tore at every part of his body; then it was
over.
Shinji fell face forward into the dirt and then stood shakily. Misato
scrambled away from the car desperately with tears in her eyes. "Oh god
Shinji!" she cried as she looked around for the boy. She stared as he
stood seemingly unharmed in front of her.
"Your all right?" she gasped in disbelief.
"Yea, my skin's a little cooked and I need a change of clothes but other
than that I'm fine. Believe me I've had worse," he muttered a little
shaken.
Misato got out and began to push on the car. It had rolled several
hundred feet in the blast and ended up on its side. She was straining and
grunting while pushing against the car. Shinji watched with slight
amusement. "Are you going to laugh or help me out?" growled Misato.
Shinji's smile widened and he walked over to the car. "Why don't you
just do this?" he asked. He closed his eyes and ran his hand along the
length of the car as if he were trying to find or feel for something. He
stopped, opened his eyes, and flicked his wrist. The car fell over.
Misato stared at him in annoyed disbelief. "How did you do that?" she
said aloud.
"Simple, I found the center of gravity and displaced it," said Shinji
with a wry grin.
Shinji sat looking annoyed as Misato talked on the phone to get them
transportation. Something about a car train or something, she also went
on about keeping him safe. "As if I need someone like her to keep -me-
safe," he thought as he snorted. Misato hung up the phone and smiled
cheerfully. Shinji frowned as he looked at her. He could tell by her aura
that she was distressed.
Shinji looked in the back of the car and frowned. "We could have walked
ya know. It isn't that far to the headquarters," he muttered. "This is
theft." He was of course referring to the large number of batteries that
were in the back of the car. Misato had 'borrowed' them from other cars
to get the vehicle running.
Misato snapped out of her self-pity trance that was due to the near
destruction of her car and her favorite dress. "I'm a government employee
and we needed a working car right?" she explained.
"No, we didn't," said Shinji. "No one is going to buy that Misato."
"Aw your no fun. Any way you're just a boy aren't you," she said looking
smug.
"Whatever," said Shinji as he watched the scenery pass.
"You know...you're not as cute as I thought you'd be," said Misato
looking even more smug than before somehow.
"And your not as mature at I'd thought you'd be," retorted Shinji. He
really should have been more original but he knew that would get to her,
she was starting to get on his nerves a little and he couldn't just kill
her. She swerved the car and Shinji just smiled at her. "See what I
mean?"
Misato just sulked for the rest of the trip.
In the distance the angel stood and healed, waiting for the right moment
to continue on.
A few moments later She entered a large pair of doors with the word
"Nerv" in a maple leaf logo with the words, "God's in his heaven. All's
right with the world," written around it. It opened revealing a large
conveyor that would carry the car down beneath the ground.
"Did your father send you an ID card?" asked Misato.
"Of course how else would I do his bidding?" muttered Shinji
sarcastically as he handed it to her.
"Great, start reading this," said the woman cheerfully.
"Why? I already know what it says. He wants me to work for him, he
wouldn't have sent for me unless he wanted me for something," said Shinji
more than a little bitterly.
"Sounds like you don't get along with your father. You sound just like
me," said Misato as she sat back. "So what do you think?" said Misato as
they entered the Geo front. Shinji had been strangely silent.
"Impressive, most impressive. I was expecting this or something like it
actually," said Shinji calmly.
"Your a weird kid ya know that?" said Misato.
"Thank you, it means I'm probably better than most people," said Shinji
cheerfully.
"Right," said Misato looking slightly sick.
After a few minutes of walking around Shinji realized that they were
lost and remembered that this was supposed to happen to introduce Dr.
Akagi. They rode an escalator through a corridor and Misato sighed loudly
as a door opened and a wind rushed by. "It's because of these things that
I hate to wear a skirt around here," muttered Misato.
"What a crime," muttered Shinji absently as he looked at the numbers on
the ceiling. "We've been by this already, just admit you're lost."
Misato looked at Shinji in mild surprise at his little comment and she
blushed slightly. She then realized the rest of what he said and became
irritated. "Look, who works here you or me?" she retorted.
"Both of us now," said Shiji. "That is if you can ever figure out where
the hell we are." It was fun teasing her she reacted so well.
Misato turned red and clenched her fist in anger. She didn't like being
out maneuvered by a kid one bit.
"Dr. Akagi please meet Captain Katsuragi in corridor four," said an
announcement over a P.A. system.
An attractive blonde woman of about thirty stepped out of a pool of
liquid in a wet suit and snorkel and sighed. "Is she lost again?"
Misato stared in surprise as the door of the elevator opened to reveal
an upset Dr. Akagi standing and glaring at her as she stepped in.
"Uh, Ritsuko, I uhh," stammered the woman.
"Nice swim suit," said Shinji causing Ritsuko to glare at him. He backed
off a bit and grinned.
"Why are you wasting my time Captain?" growled the woman.
"I'm sure this is all very nice but could we please stick to the task at
hand?" said Shinji impatiently.
"What a rude little kid," snorted Misato.
"So this is him? One of the third children?" asked Ritsuko with a frown
as she assessed him.
"One of?" thought Shinji in surprise. He quickly dismissed it for the
moment.
"You're late Captain, so late in fact that I was sent to find you," said
Ritsuko angrily.
"We have to get to the cage as I'm sure that my father is growing
impatient now," he really didn't want to listen to them bicker amongst
each other.
"What did you say?" said Ritsuko with a shocked look on her face. Misato
just stared at him.
Shinji simply threw the unopened folder over his shoulder. "I'm sure you
are aware of who I am. I know all about this place and why I'm here.
There are only two reasons why someone of my limited technical skills
would be brought here, and my father doesn't trust me enough for
security. I'm here because he wants me to pilot an Eva," snorted Shinji
giving both of them a condensing look.
"How does he know about the Eva series?!" yelled Ritsuko at Misato.
"Shut up. I was here for some of the development and testing when I was
younger," said Shinji and he began to realize that he was indeed being
very rude, not that it bothered him much.
"How can you remember that?! You were only three," said Ritsuko angrily.
"Try watching your mother die and see how much you remember," said
Shinji coolly.
Misato and Ritsuko were silent for the rest of the trip. They entered
the room and the lights came on revealing the head of the robot. "So
there you are mother," said Shinji quietly.
Gendo appeared in an over hanging balcony near the ceiling. Beside him
monitors showing Shinji's face could be seen.
"Father," said Shinji.
"So you still remember after all this time," said Gendo with a small
frown.
"You think I'll just come and do what you like after all this time? You
abandoned me!" yelled Shinji angrily. His gaze never wavered from his
father's face. They stared at each other for a long moment.
"I have a use for you now, you will do as I say," snapped Gendo
remaining cool.
"No, you do not order me around father. If I choose to help you it will
because I want too. I could leave here and there is nothing you could do
to stop me!" said Shinji angrily.
"If you're going to stay then do it. If not then leave," shouted Gendo
angrily.
"Why did I come here?" said Shinji as he turned and looked at the exit.
"Why did you come here Shinji? Were you expecting to have a joyous
reunion with your father?" said Misato with a sad gaze.
"No, I came here to tell him I hate him and carve off his face with
this," said Shinji loud enough to know his father heard as he produced a
large knife from his clothes.
"How did that get past security?" cried Ritsuko in shock.
Shinji threw the knife into the ground and it stuck cutting deep into
the metal floor. "But I'm better than that. I'll see you in hell when I
die and that is enough comfort for me," said the boy as he gazed with
hateful eyes at his father.
One of the monitors next to Gendo changed to a control room and a gray
haired man appeared on the screen looking at a larger one, which showed
the angel approaching. "Fuyutsuki, wake up Rei."
"Can we use her?" asked the man from the other end of the comm.
"She's not dead yet," replied Gendo coldly.
"No, I'll do it," said Shinji with a calm stare. "I've said what I need
to father. I'm doing this because mother believed in this too, not
because you want me to. Understand that old man."
"I don't care about your reasons," said Gendo as he turned to leave.
He stopped as the building shook and pieces of the ceiling fell from
above towards Shinji. The boy stood there and ignored them as they fell
around him moving only to swat away a large light that nearly crushed
him; an almost impossible feat given the size of the light.
"Misato and Ritsuko did not see him swat it to the side. It seemed to
bounce off the ground and land in the coolant pool ten feet away on its
own, but Shinji's father saw the whole thing and his eyes narrowed. He
turned away slowly from Shinji's hard gaze and cruel looking smile.
"Assign Shinji to stay at Captain Katsuragi's home for observation. I
want reports on him daily starting with today's events," he said after he
walked a ways.
"Yes sir." said a voice from a near by intercom.
"Shinji are you all right?" cried Misato as she rushed over to the mess.
"Yea, I'm fine," muttered the boy as he walked over to them.
"Wow, you have got some nerves to stand through that so calmly,"
muttered Ritsuko after a moment.
"It takes allot to scare me," said Shinji with a snort.
Shinji found himself in the entry plug and looked around in confused
wonder. "Hey, I just realized I don't know how to work this thing. How
about some instruction?" he said sarcastically.
"Don't worry Shinji we were just coming to that," said a voice over the
intercom.
"I don't recognize your voice," he noted casually.
"I'm Maya, Dr. Akagi's assistant," said the voice.
"We'll you sound cute, you've got my attention," said Shinji with a
grin.
"Your a bit to young for my taste," said the voice.
"Quit flirting you two we have a lot to cover," said Ritsuko.
"Yes Ma'am," said Maya sounding embarrassed.
"Oh, don't be such a slave driver Ritsy-pu, let a guy have a little fun.
You think I don't know I'm probably cheerfully marching to my death?"
said Shinji a little cheerfully.
"My god, he sounds just like..." muttered Misato to herself.
"Well if you listen you'll have allot better chance of surviving, so
pipe down," said the woman angrily.
"When he gets back I'm gonna have a long talk with him about how to
address his elders," said Misato hotly.
"Yea, sticks and stones. You want to tell me what this stuff filling up
the plug is?" said Shinji still as calm as ever.
"Don't worry that's LCL once it saturates your lungs your blood will be
oxygenated directly. We have allot to cover so pipe down," said Ritsuko
impatiently.
"How do you feel?" asked Maya.
"I'm gub be sick," said Shinji.
Inside the plug Shinji felt the tingle of the liquid on his skin and
frowned as he realized that it was not the liquid that was causing it.
"Quit complaining you're a boy aren't you?" snapped Misato.
"There is a slight energy reading from within the plug," said Maya after
a few moments of looking at the screen.
Shinji cursed mentally as he realized what had just happened. "Damn, why
does this happen to me every life? The only time this didn't happen was
my last one," he grumbled. "Misato."
"What is it Shinji?" said the woman a little snappy.
"We have a slight problem," said Shinji.
"What is it?" said Maya and Ritsuko sounding worried. A problem now
would mean real trouble.
"I'm not a boy anymore," said Shinji. He saw all three of them look up
at the screen at the girl sitting in the cockpit of the Eva and gasped.
Sitting there was a longhaired red head that looked a lot like Shinji.
"I think this is an interesting side effect Dr. Akagi," she said
jokingly to them.
"My god, this is impossible. Is it possible they switched..." said
Ritsuko.
"No, We monitored Shinji in the cockpit and according to the computer
he's still in there," said Maya in shock.
"How is this possible?" said Misato.
"I'll explain when I get back this is actually quite normal for me. I
was hoping LCL wouldn't activate it," muttered the girl. It was obvious
she was lying to all in the room. Truth was this had not happened to her
in over fifty years. It was the good old Jusenkyo curse popping its ugly
head up again at the most inconvenient time.
"We don't have time to argue, are the connections working?" said Ritsuko
as the building shook again.
"Yes Ma'am. Everything appears to be normal," said Maya.
"Then launch we'll worry about this later its not as if she can get far
out of the city with the Unit," said the Doctor.
"Incredible," gasped Maya and Ritsuko in unison.
"Syncro errors are within .03 percent," said the young woman.
"It's going to work," said Ritsuko with hope in her voice.
Shinji felt the Eva shake and saw the platform and walls move away as
the Eva was released from the safety systems. "Here we go," she said as
the Eva was placed on the launch pad.
Gendo Ikari looked at the screen indifferently. "So my son is a coward
after all. It's to be expected," he thought coolly as he watched.
"Can we do this?" said Misato from below him.
Gendo gave a small laugh. "Of course, if we fail to defeat the angels
then humanity has no future," he replied.
"Launch path clear," announced Maya.
"Launch!" cried Misato.
Shinji felt the G-force slam her into her seat she grunted in pain as
her crotch was pushed against the center console. It didn't hurt quite as
much in a female body but it was still enough to make her very
uncomfortable. She used the handgrips to push herself up but it only
relieved a little of the pressure. At last she came to a hard stop as the
Eva was thrown up onto the street where the rails abruptly stopped.
She looked out at the city and saw the angel coming towards her. "Oh
shit, I still don't know how to work this thing!" she thought
desperately.
Inside the control room Misato stood and watched. "Who ever you are,
come back alive," she said almost in prayer.
Spirit within 3: Evangelion: Unfamiliar ceiling.
Shinji stared at the creature as it advanced on her. She felt her
muscles twitch as the familiar feeling of battle over took her system.
The only problem was, she didn't know how to move. "Instructions now?"
she asked with a nervous edge in her voice.
"Try walking," said Misato's voice over the comm.
"How do I walk?" said Shinji as she glared at the angel that slowly
approached her.
"Concentrate, focus on the concept of walking," said Ritsuko's voice.
"Right, walk," Shinji frowned and glared at the now dangerously close
angel.
Unit One lifted its foot and started to slowly move forward. "Its
working!" thought Shinji excitedly. "Okay stop." The unit kept its
forward motion at a steady pace. "Uh stop?" said Shinji looking weak.
"Damnit all! Charge!" she cried at last.
The Eva broke into a run and stormed towards the angel. Shinji grit her
teeth as the angel simply sidestepped and she crashed into a nearby
building. Eva Unit One fell to its Knees and sat still.
"Move damnit," growled Shinji as she pulled at the controls in the
cockpit. She had been shaken by the blow but remained calm.
"Get up girl! You can do this!" cried Misato's voice.
The angel had other Ideas however. The massive claw reached down and
lifted the Eva by its face. Shinji felt her neck snap straight and strain
as if it had been him and not the Eva that had been grabbed. She opened
her eyes and saw the hole in the monster's claw begin to glow.
"Get the hell out of there!" cried Misato.
The angel grabbed the Eva's arm and pulled it tight, her own arm moved
involuntarily. With a single crushing motion the Eva unit's arm snapped
and hung limply. Shinji simply grit her teeth and glared at the angel in
anger.
"The arm has sustained damage. Disconnecting all circuits and rerouting
connections!" cried Maya from her terminal.
"Damnit! Can't you do something she's getting killed out there!"
screamed Misato.
Ritsuko simply glared at the screen in shock and ignored her. "This
can't be happening...Unless! Could the syncro frequencies have gone into
Hyper fluctuation?!" the thoughts ran through her head and she stared at
the data screens in awe. "Can you lower the neural circuit feedback
regulators a notch or even two?" she asked the young woman at the
monitor.
"I'll try," replied Maya as her hands flew across the keyboard.
Shinji began to hear a buzzing noise and stared into the claw as the
glowing in the hole began to grow brighter. "Damn!"
"Move! Get out of the way!" cried Misato in panic.
"Shut up," muttered Shinji as she prepared herself for the impact.
The angel held the Eva off the ground. A long pole like object that
glowed brightly protruded from the back of its elbow. It moved back and
slammed forward into the arm. Shinji screamed as it impacted over the
Eva's eye. She clutched her face and could actually feel the armor
cracking as the angel repeatedly impaled the pole like object into the
Eva's face. Soon the armor cracked and shattered. The angel shot the pole
into the Eva's face a final time and it went straight through the back of
the head. Shinji was thrown into a building and collapsed. Fluids poured
through the hole and the Eva was silent.
Inside the cockpit Shinji glared at the now silent screens all around
him. "Mother, I need your help to do this. I know you're in here, help me
damnit." she gasped. Then there was only blackness.
The control room was in a panic. Alarms screamed and emergency lights
flashed all around the room. Misato stood in the center in a numb
paralyzed state and looked at the screen in horror.
"Degree of cranial damage unknown!" cried one of the men.
"Cutting power to control neurons! Reversing syncrographs!" cried
another voice.
"Pulse is surging back!" cried Maya in a panic.
"Pull the circuit manually! Just stop that back flow!" cried Ritsuko.
"Negative! The signal's been rejected! It's refusing all input!" cried
one of the men on the far side of the room.
Misato moved and walked to the nearest technician. "What about the
pilot?" she said numbly.
"Monitors not responding, We can't tell if she's dead or alive!" he said
quietly.
That shook Misato completely out of her daze. "All right. I'm suspending
all original orders! Pilot safety is now our only priority! Force
ejection of the entry plug!"
"There's no manual override, We've lost all contact with the Eva!"
replied Maya.
Misato glared at her and looked at the silent Eva on the screen.
Shinji woke and looked at the ceiling. "Where?" he gasped as he looked
around groggily. He simply lay and stared at the ceiling after that. "An
unfamiliar ceiling," he said with a small smile at his private joke.
In a large dark room Gendo Ikari sat and glared at the men that sat
around him in a meeting.
"Mr. Ikari, surely Nerv and the Evas could be used a little
more...efficiently?" said the man at the head of the table. He was old
and had a strange looking visor grafted onto his face.
"First Unit 00 and now you've wrecked Unit 01 on her maiden campaign!
Their repair bills plus, reconstruction of the armored building, why its
going to cost as much as a small nation!" said a tall thin man to his
right.
"Your primary obligations are being forgotten, while these pet projects
of yours bankrupt us," said one of the other men on his right. He had a
prominent nose and wore a small pair of glasses.
"Nerve and the Evas are not your only concerns." agreed a man on Ikari's
left.
"What about The instrumentality project? To us this project above all
others represents our greatest hope in these desperate times. Where are
your priorities?" said the man at the head of the table.
"I understand..." replied Gendo simply.
"In any case, I cannot and will not sanction any delay in the I.P.
schedule, that is attributable to the second coming of the angels. I will
consider your budget request," said the man at the head.
"Now, how is the Intel op progressing? Have we discovered who our
mysterious pilot is?" asked one of the men on Gendo's left.
"No need for concern," said Ikari. "That matter has already been dealt
with. She has personal ties with my son and will remain on Nerv's pilot
roster for the time being. She is however under heavy surveillance."
Shinji stood in the hospital lobby and watched the television. The news
report said nothing about the Angel or the Eva. He wandered into the
halls and gazed out of the windows at the world outside. Behind him a
cart skittered by being pushed along by a nurse and doctor. Shinji turned
and saw her for the first time. She was pale and had light blue gray
hair, her eyes were a strange reddish color and she watched him
passively. No emotion appeared on her face. Her right eye was bandaged
and she had a sheet covering most of her body. Shinji gave her a small
smile and waved as he turned back towards the lobby. He stopped and
turned to see his father talking with her further down the hall. He
sneered at him and smiled viciously before turning away.
His smug grin was wiped away when Misato walked up to him in the hall.
"Such a cold man!"
"Aren't I? I guess since I'm male now you have become aware of my
condition?" he said with a small frown.
"What are you talking about? I'm just here to pick up that female pilot
you switched with during the battle you little worm," Misato did not look
happy with him. "I suppose you'll be transferred to live with your
father."
"Oh, Misato my dear don't be so cold."
"Come off it you little pervert. I heard about what happened ya know,
you scared that poor nurse half to death when she came in to bathe you
before you woke up. She's still in hysterics down the hall. What did you
do to her?" said Misato giving Shinji a condensing look.
Shinji had spent a better part of the day explaining things to several
doctors. Until a message had been sent from some higher ups. Shinji
suspected his father. "Same thing I'm about to do to you," thought Shinji
with a small smile. "Misato-san we need to have a little talk before you
go down to her room."
"Stop." said Gendo as he walked up to the pair. "This information has
been classified. I have read your report on the particulars of this
situation and it will be released on a need to know basis, Captain
Katsuragi will be informed later."
"I'm afraid it won't be that simple father. There are a few things about
the curse you don't understand," said Shinji at least half civilly.
"Explain," said Gendo.
"I get wet more times in a day on average that you would in a year; it's
a part of the deal," said Shinji calmly. "This won't stay secret for
long."
"Understood, but for the time being it is classified. Katsuragi you will
keep my son under close supervision at all times. I want daily reports,"
With that Ikari turned and walked back towards Rei's room.
"You know father, My sister looks exactly like mother did. I suppose
that was no accident though was it?" said Shinji with a smile. Gendo
froze in the hall and turned to face him. He looked at him calmly and
turned away again.
Shinji turned and smiled at Misato who simply stared at him in
disbelief. No one had ever gotten such a strong reaction out of the
Commander in her experience with him.
"Shall we go my dear room mate?" he asked as he walked into the waiting
room.
"Wait a minute! What about..." started Misato as she finally got her
wits back.
"These are your new orders," he replied before she finished and handed
her an envelope. "This says that I'm supposed to take you instead of..."
she dropped them and growled at Shinji. "Did you have anything to do with
this?" she said with a frustrated look.
"Me? Goodness no," said Shinji with an innocent look.
They stood in line at the grocery store and Shinji stood looking bitter
with a large basket of instant food. "Great this is gonna be like that
time I had to stay with Nabiki for a week."
"Oh, What are you complaining about now?" asked Misato as she paid.
"So I guess I'm stuck with you, might as well make the best of it," she
said with a sigh as she drove. "We'll have a party to welcome you," she
said trying to look cheerful.
"Look Misato, I know you don't care for me much. You probably think I'm
a coward. I'm sure we'll get along fine after you get to know me," said
Shinji with a weak smile.
"Why did you do it? You knew what was going to happen to that poor..."
Misato started to say.
Shinji interrupted her. "She doesn't exist Misato. She is me, we're the
same person."
"What? What the hell are you talking about?" snapped Misato.
"Misato, your orders never changed. I am the girl you saw in the
cockpit. It started when I was very young..." Shinji went into a brief
explanation of Jusenkyo that excluded the presence of Genma, or exactly
how long ago it was for him.
"That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard! You expect me to believe
that?" she cried angrily as she slammed onto the breaks and pulled over
to the side of the road.
"I don't care what you think Misato. You've been ordered to believe it,"
said Shinji with another weak smile. The rest of the trip was made in
silence.
"Welcome home," Misato chimed weakly.
Shinji strolled into the home and sighed. "What a dump."
"Put that stuff in the fridge will you?" said Misato cheerfully as she
walked into the back.
Shinji somehow managed to fit it all despite all the beer and snacks she
had stuffed away. "Great," he muttered as she emerged from the shower in
a large T-shirt and long loose pants.
"Keep your eyes and hands to yourself," she announced as he placed the
microwave and instant dinners down.
"Jeez, don't be so hostile you psycho hose beast," he muttered as he
picked at his meal.
"Well, you should go take a bath now. Maybe it will help you relax your
raging hormones," she sneered at him.
"Whatever," replied Shinji as he stood and made his way to the bathroom.
Once inside he undressed and opened the door to the tub. Inside was a
good-sized penguin soaking in the water. He walked over to the sink and
dumped a bucket of cold water over his head before wrapping a towel
around himself and lifting the bird out of the water.
Misato stood watching the door way impatiently and snickering to
herself. She was surprised to see the bird gently booted out into the
kitchen. "Maybe I should be nicer to him, but he's probably already made
up his mind about me...I have been kind of a jerk though," she thought to
herself. "Nahh."
Shinji was about to step into the furo and soak for a while when he
heard a light tapping on the door. "Shinji are you OK in there?" said a
quiet voice.
"Yea, come on in. I'm decent," said Shinji as she dropped her towel to
the floor with a smirk.
"Look I'm sorry I've been so..." said Misato as she opened the door. She
froze as the girl from the cockpit stared at her.
"What are you doing here?" gasped Misato in shock.
"I live here brainiac, you drove me remember?" snorted the girl with a
large grin. "I am going to enjoy this," she thought with a wicked grin.
"You're about to find out how ridiculous my story was," she said as she
scooped a large bucket full of hot water and dumped it over her head.
Misato's screamed at the top of her lungs and backed into the wall with
a look of complete shock.
"Now that we have that cleared up we can get back to basics and cut this
cynicism crap," said the now nude and very tired looking Shinji.
Misato simply passed out.
Later Shinji lay in his bed and looked at the ceiling. "I probably
should have found a better way to do that but it was to much fun to pass
up," he told himself.
Misato had retreated to her room and was currently reading the report
that had all the details of his condition in it. She would probably not
be very happy in the morning. Shinji frowned and realized that he would
have to make some efforts to patch things up with her for a while at
least. She seemed like a nice enough person. He drifted off into sleep
and heard the foot steps of the Eva growing ever closer...
Spirit within part 3: Evangelion.
Part 2.2 /The beast.
Shinji sat in the darkness of the cockpit and glared at the blank
screens. She knew that if her mother refused her he would die in moments.
It felt strange inside the small space, as if she was still connected to
the Eva. A sorrow filled her heart as no answer came to her and she heard
and felt the angel strike the body of the Eva relentlessly. Shinji glared
at the blank screens with sad eyes and prepared to die. "No, I refuse to
die," she said finally. That was when it happened.
"The angel is attacking the Eva!" cried Maya as she worked the terminal
desperately. On screen they could see Sachiel hammering on the chest of
the Eva as if he was trying to get to something inside the armor plates.
"Is he trying to get to the pilot?" said Misato in horror.
"What's that glow?" said Ritsuko quietly.
"Energy reading from the Eva!" screamed Maya in shock.
"Impossible! All the systems are shut down!" said Ritsuko giving her as
strange look.
The Eva slowly raised its good arm and the blue aura surrounding it
began to condense in its palm. As if by magic all the systems returned
almost immediately. The screen showed the girl holding her palm forward
and glaring at the angel with eyes of complete despair. "I will not be
killed so easily!" she cried and recoiled as the angel grabbed the
outstretched arm. "Eat this Shi shi Hokou Dan!" screamed Shinji and
finally released the blast at the monster.
Sachiel was blasted back across the city and slammed into a building
that crumbled immediately. Shinji finally got the Eva to slowly rise to
its feet. She then realized why her mother had not helped her. She
couldn't recognize her essence in this body. Even her spirit was female
in this form. Desperately she played the memories of Jusenkyo and her
memories of her mother in her mind. Almost instantly she felt a warm
comfort cover her and she felt the cold loneliness of the entry plug fade
away. "Mother," she gasped as her tears floated away through the LCL.
Sachiel was now standing again and moving towards her. Its eyes flared
up sending a blast that took Eva in the Chest. Shinji felt herself fall
back and hit the ground as the armor finally cracked making her very
vulnerable. This time she stood quickly and faced the creature with new
determination. That was when she saw the timer appear in the corner of
the screen.
"What happened to the power?" cried Ritsuko as she slammed her hands
onto the console. Maya worked as fast as she could for an answer.
"The umbilical cable has snapped," she said quietly.
"She doesn't know where the emergency power junctions are does she?"
said Misato.
"Girl fall back!" cried Ritsuko over the comm.
"I can't! I can barely walk much less retreat!" screamed the girl
angrily in reply.
"My god," said Maya in horror. They all realized that she was trapped in
the Eva up there with no way of being recovered.
"NO! The batteries just died!" cried Ritsuko.
Misato fell to her knees and tears streamed down her face as she sobbed.
There was nothing she could do for the girl.
Sachiel jumped and landed on top of the Eva and began to pound on the
head viciously. It clawed at the face and tried to rip the armor off the
face.
The screens went blank again inside the Eva. Shinji felt helpless inside
the monstrous machine and simply collapsed in exhaustion.
Eva however awoke. Just as Sachiel had ripped off half of the armored
helmet, Eva stood knocking it away. Its jaws snapped open and it roared
angrily.
"The Eva just reactivated itself!" yelled the longhaired man.
"The Eva just ripped out her own frontal shut off joint!" cried Maya.
"That's impossible! There's no power! The syncrographs are still in the
negative zone! She can't be moving!" screamed Ritsuko in shock.
"Unless...My god! She's out of control!"
Eva jumped high into the air and landed on the red sphere that was
embedded in the angel's chest. It cracked under the pressure and Eva slid
off.
Sachiel tried to grab for it, but Eva was to fast It gripped both of the
arms in one hand and snapped them off easily.
The two giants clashed for a moment and Eva pushed it off with its good
arm.
Sachiel stood silently and Eva charged right into its AT field. The Eva
backed away and lifted its broken arm and clenched the fist repairing it
immediately.
"The Angel has an AT field?" whispered Misato in shock.
"As long as its up the Eva can't approach," said Ritsuko in a frustrated
tone.
"The left wrist... is restored?!" said one of the men on the other side
of the room.
"Just like that?" said Misato in surprise.
"The Eva is spreading its own AT field!" said Maya as she looked at the
steadily moving graph before her. "It's neutralizing the phase space!"
"No it's breaking through it!" cried Ritsuko in shock.
"The Eva just forced open the angel's AT field!" cried Misato in shock.
The angel shot another beam at Eva and it raised its hand and reflected
it back at it sending blasting away. Eva rushed forward and fell on the
downed angel and ripped one of the bony protrusions off its chest and
used it to beat at the red sphere in the center of its chest. The object
cracked more and more.
The angel emitted a scream and grabbed the Eva wrapping itself around
it. It exploded in a large column of white fire; the peak of the blast
was shaped like a cross.
All present in the control room watched in awe. Gendo sat unmoving and
smiled slightly.
The Eva emerged from the flames and stopped cold in the street. Shinji
sat in the darkness of the cockpit awake and aware. She did not need to
see outside the cockpit to know that armor plating on Eva's face had slid
off to reveal the flesh beneath. She simply sat and waited for pick up.
Spirit within part 3: Evangelion. Ch.3
Shinji smiled his best smile as Misato growled and stared at him
angrily. "You must be cheating!" she declared at last.
"Misato, how can you say that? It's nearly impossible to cheat at rock,
paper, scissors," he declared triumphantly. The fact was he had been
cheating, he was using the Amaguriken technique and making it look like
they were going at the same time. Shinji was waiting until he knew what
she had and put the appropriate hand sign out a split second before she
could see he hadn't gone yet. "It's her fault for trying to throw all the
chores on me this way," he told himself.
"Fine, we'll just split em' fifty fifty..." muttered Misato reluctantly.
"Such an example you set for me Misato-chan. To think, you, shirking off
responsibility like that," said Shinji as he away from her casually.
"You watch your mouth! I'm older than you ya know!" cried Misato in
annoyance.
"I don't do dishes," said Shinji glancing at her with a smug smile.
"Fine, but half and half other than that," agreed Misato finally.
Shinji made a little victory sign as he stood and went into his room.
A half-hour later Misato stood from her meal and went towards her own
room. She paused by Shinji's room and frowned as she heard heavy
breathing from inside. She stood there for a moment and blushed slightly.
"Maybe he isn't as cool as he thinks. I am an attractive woman after all
and he's here all by himself with me. I guess it's only natural..." she
thought about it for a few moments and a few memories came back to her.
Namely Shinji, flashing her in the bathroom to demonstrate his 'change'.
She smiled wickedly and rubbed her hands together. "That little jerk
needs his ego brought down a bit," she thought as she grabbed the door
and pulled it open.
"Shinji are you all right? I heard a noise in he..." she froze and stared
at what she saw in disbelief.
Shinji was standing in a full vertical splits kick and casually turned
to face her without lowering his leg. He had his shirt off and had been
going through an advanced kata. He was completely buff at the moment and
very sweaty. He smiled and waved at her. "I'm fine Misato, just
practicing," he chimed cheerfully as he finally let his leg down and
stood relaxed in front of her. She just stared at the boy and thought
back to the scrawny kid she had seen earlier.
He wasn't really any larger at the moment; it's just that he was now
more...solid. She was having trouble regaining her senses as she was
completely shocked yet again.
"Uh, can I help you?" asked Shinji after a few moments. Misato passed out
again.
"I still got that old Saotome charm I guess," muttered Shinji as he
picked up the poor woman and carried her to her bed.
Misato woke about twenty minutes later cursed at herself at being so
easily surprised. She had seen much better built men in her time and with
much less clothing. The boy was half her age for god's sake. She just
wasn't expecting it from Shinji. The way he carried himself and talked
was the way much larger boy's acted who weren't afraid of being hit, she
really should have known, but he seemed so, weak and small, almost casual
all the time. It had unnerved her a great deal. Now she had to go out and
deal with him, and hope that his ego hadn't just inflated ten times. She
sighed and stood with a grimace on her face as she went out to face the
monster she no doubt had just created, "He probly thinks I'm gonna try to
jump him tonight or something."
Shinji was sitting at the table with Pen-Pen eating a candy bar lazily.
She emerged and looked at him groggily.
"If your that tired go back to sleep," he said not even looking at her.
"Maybe I should," she said turning back to her room.
"Hey, Misato?" chimed the boy cheerfully.
Misato grit her teeth and turned to face him. "Yes?" she mumbled
grumpily.
"You OK? I didn't mean to surprise you like that," he said looking at
her with what seemed like genuine interest.
"I'm fine, I just, I shouldn't have barged in like that," she replied
quietly. "I'm goin' ta bed."
"You do that, you'll feel better in the morning," said Shinji with what
would become a painfully cheerful grin to her in the coming days.
Pen-Pen looked at Shinji and he smiled at the animal. "Well, I happen to
think it was a good idea to not tell her she left her shirt open. It's
not my fault she wasn't wearing any underwear," he said defensively. The
Penguin simply snorted and downed the beer it had been drinking.
Misato sighed and lay in her bed with a small smile. "Maybe he isn't so
bad after all," she thought to herself as she rolled onto her side. Her
eyes went wide as she realized that she felt strange. She glanced down
and saw that her shirt had been undone the whole time. She turned
completely red and sat upright suddenly. "Shinji you pervert!"
It had been a week since his arrival in Tokyo-3 and Shinji was never so
board in all his life. It was his second day of class, he sat and
listened to the teacher drone on and on about the second impact without
even paying attention to the class. Shinji mostly ignored the senile old
man they had as a teacher. He knew most of what he was saying was a lie
anyway. He glanced around the room, besides a few students most of the
students studied or simply suffered through the lecture. He himself had
been rather withdrawn and quiet for his first day in the class, few
students bothered to even try to talk to him. Those who did were friendly
enough but already had their own groups of friends picked out. Shinji
didn't mind though he was enjoying the quiet moment of this life even
with the boredom that came with it.
He did, however, manage to pick up one conversation in particular in the
room over all his quiet musings. Two girls sitting pretty near to him
were trying to keep quiet and failing miserably.
"Did ya hear?" said one of them; she had blonde hair that was tied back
in a ponytail.
"Hmmm?" replied the other girl. She had styled short cut black hair.
"All the guys have been talking about it..."
Shinji smiled as this conversation became familiar. "So it's time I
decided what I'm going to tell them," he muttered to himself. He didn't
see the boy sitting behind him push his glasses up his nose habitually
and start typing on his laptop. Everyone in the class had one so the
teacher probably assumed he was taking notes and said nothing.
The conversation continued and Shinji smiled to himself a little. "You
know that boy who transferred in yesterday? They say he's the pilot of
that robot!" said the girl with the ponytail.
"What? You're kidding! Are you serious?" exclaimed the dark haired girl
earning a glare from the teacher. The two sat in embarrassed silence for
the rest of the class.
Shinji smirked at this and looked across the room at Rei. She was
sitting on the far side of the room and was probably the only person in
the room paying attention. She still had her eye patch and was wearing a
light cast on her arm, she seemed lifeless to him, almost like a statue
or robot. Still, there was no denying how much she looked like his
mother. "So, what am I going to do about you Imoto-chan?" he thought
idly. After a few moments of staring he realized what he was doing and
broke it off to stare at the teacher. Finally the bell rang to end class
and the students all stood and bowed politely.
"Hey Ikari, got a minute?" said one of the girls who had been talking
earlier.
"Not really, but I can make one," replied Shinji with a small grin.
"How come you transferred here just when people are starting to
evacuate?" asked the blonde.
"Because of my father," he replied.
"The rumor's true isn't it?" asked the blonde. She was very forward, the
other girl was obviously trying to be polite and not say much.
"Rumor?" said Shinji innocently.
"Don't play dumb. The rumor that you're that robot's pilot!" blurted the
dark haired girl finally.
"Is it true?" said the blonde.
Shinji gave a small frown and shook his head. "That is classified."
"Ohmygod! I knew it!" screeched the blonde.
Almost everyone in the class turned immediately towards him. Shinji got
a sick look on his face and shrunk into his seat as he was bombarded with
questions.
"How'd they choose you?"
"Was there a test or something?"
"Say, weren't you scared?"
"Does it have a special attack?"
"What was that monster? Is it some country's secret weapon?" said one of
the girls.
Shinji turned to face her and frowned again. "That is classified, all I
can tell you is it's called an 'Angel'."
"You think your all that but you don't know nothin'" said a voice over
the crowd. "Are you stupid?"
Shinji turned to see an athletic looking boy in a jumpsuit leaning
against the doorway.
Shinji was about to speak when one of the girls spoke up. "Suzahara
Toji! You missed a whole week of school without permission..."
"It's none of your business," retorted the boy.
"You must be this charming gentlemen's girlfriend?" snorted Shinji
earning a small collective laugh from the class.
"We are not dating!" retorted the pair.
The boy stormed towards Shinji throwing anything in his way to the side
and slammed his hands on Shinji's desk. "Yo, new kid. Step out side.
Now."
Shinji followed and cheerfully as ever stood across from Toji as they
stopped outside the school building. "Okay new kid...Listen up! My
younger sister was hurt bad...she's still in the hospital. My dad and
gramps work in your lab, and I'm da only one who can stay with her. It
ain't the going there that I mind, but supposin she ends up with some
kind of scar or something? She'll never be a babe. Doncha feel sorry for
her?"
"Misato has a scar and she's a babe," replied Shinji mechanically
pretending he didn't understand.
"Shut up you! Who's fault do you think it was?" roared Toji.
"The pilot of Unit 01?" answered Shinji.
"That's right your fault! She was pinned under rubble because you had to
go crashin around! Don't think you're so hot just because they're all
over you!" screamed Toji in his anger.
"Tell me...what would have happened to your sister if the Eva Unit
wasn't there?" asked Shinji quietly. The class gasped in shock.
"You tryin to make fun of me?" roared the boy.
"Toji stop it!" cried the boy with the glasses as he grabbed the much
larger boy and tried to hold him back.
"Let him go," said Shinji to the smaller boy.
"Huh?" replied the kid as he let go. Toji glared at Shinji and grit his
teeth.
"You think all this posing and fighting will help your sister? Go ahead
and try to hit me. See what it gets you and maybe you'll learn that you
can't solve problems like this with your fist." said Shinji coldly.
Toji charged and swung clumsily at Shinji who simply dodged. This
enraged the boy even more and he swung harder and faster. Shinji easily
and fluidly weaved and dodged around Toji's blows never letting the smile
disappear from his face. Toji swung clumsily using only brute force in
his punches. It was a lot for someone his age but nothing for someone
like Shinji.
"Stop your squirming!" cried Toji enraged. Shinji stopped cold and let
Toji hit him dead in the jaw. Shinji didn't even flinch.
"Hey, you can't go around decking important pilots!" cried the kid with
the glasses in shock.
Toji stayed with his arm planted in Shinji's face for a moment before
howling in pain. "You bastard!"
"You see what your foolish anger gets you? Your weak, try doing
something for her instead of taking it out on other people. Besides, I
never said I was the pilot of Unit one, SHE is a girl." said Shinji as he
walked away calmly.
Toji about blew a vessel. "What?! You bastard! You mean I did all that
for nothing?!" he roared in his anger. The kid with the glasses tried to
hold him back.
"Calm down Toji!" he cried.
"Kensuke, Getoffa me!" he cried and hit him on the head. He turned and
Shinji was gone.
"Hey, where did that Ikari kid go?" said one of the class members.
In the classroom the only one who had stayed behind watched from a
window quietly. Rei Ayanami just stood silently as she watched Shinji
leap out of the tree he had vanished in while no one was looking and
sneak away with a grin on his face. He turned and gave her a small salute
before vanishing over the school's outside wall and disappearing into the
streets.
"Strange." she murmured simply.
Shinji sat in the cockpit of Unit one and watched the screens with a
board expression on her face. She found she hated LCL even more than
water, it smelled like blood. Strangely though she felt completely
comfortable in her surroundings, even with her curse.
"So peeping tom, how goes it?" said Misato's voice over the comm.
system.
"Misato you are so juvenile. That's first aid and you know it, besides,
you haven't got anything I don't have better." retorted Shinji as she
stuck out her chest with an evil smile.
Misato growled and said nothing. Ritsuko appeared on a screen inside the
cockpit with a bewildered gaze. "You take pride in that?"
"If you have to live with it, live with it well," was the reply.
"I understand you got into a fight today," said Misato coldly.
Apparently she decided to be hard on him over the incident because of his
charming wit.
"Get over it, I'm a martial artist Misato. I get into 'incidents' all
the time. It's what I do," snorted the girl as she checked the systems
inside the Eva casually.
"Not in school you don't," said the woman angrily.
"Another time another place Misato. Besides if you read the report you'd
know I was attacked and didn't exchange blows. He couldn't even hit me
until I let him," said Shinji idly as she finished up her systems check.
It was obvious she was mostly ignoring the woman.
Misato, to say the least, was pissed. "Look here you, I'm your guardian
and you had better start listening to me or..."
"Or you'll what? I know you were ordered to take me and I like it about
as much as you do. I'm more of an adult than you've ever been Miss
Katsuragi so you'd better stop pretending to be my parent. You seem to
think that because I'm younger than you that I'm some kind of sex crazed
deviant or something and I'm sick of being treated like some kind of
perverted sex fiend just because I've seen you naked once. This
conversation is over," said Shinji bitterly.
Ritsuko turned off the monitor and sat back in her chair. "Where did
that come from?"
"We...haven't been getting along well," replied the woman sadly.
"I see, Shinji are you ready for today's training?" said Ritsuko as she
turned the communication with the Eva back on.
"Heh, I'm ready for anything," said the girl with a cruel looking smile
from the video screen.
Misato piped in a completely professional tone. "Eva's exit gates,
emergency power sources, locations of armored buildings, and recovery
sites. Have you gotten them all memorized?"
"Sure babe, just let me at those damn Angels," said Shinji confidently.
"Start Induction mode," yelled Misato to the technicians on the other
side of the room.
Shinji laughed a little as the computer generated battle simulation
appeared and the Angel appeared off to his right. She raised the practice
gun and fired off a clean shot that took the target dead in the center.
"Very good Shinji, here comes the next one," praised Ritsuko as she
worked at the computer station.
"She is good," said Misato reluctantly as she watched the Eva move
fluidly and easily. It was strange to see characteristics in the movement
of the pilots in the Evas as well. Thinking back to Rei's first tests in
Unit one she realized that it was probably not uncommon though. Rei moved
so mechanically that it didn't seem out of place for the robotic looking
Eva's to move that way.
"Good? She is amazing. I'd almost think she had combat training of some
kind the way she moves," said Ritsuko. The girl still had a long way to
go in basic maneuvering but she was still far more skilled than Rei or
even Asuka if the scores alone were anything to go by. Shinji hit over
ninety percent of his targets dead on in just a week of intensive
training.
"How on earth did they get him back in the Eva?" asked Ritsuko as she
looked at the intense gaze Shinji was giving the targets.
"I thought she would run away crying after what happened before, but she
seems to want to, even though she doesn't seem to enjoy it. I'd say she
almost hates it," said Misato with a strange gaze at Shinji's image.
Shinji sat in the cockpit of the Eva and let her reflexes take over
completely. She was almost in a daze of thought.
"Well, I'm off to an OK start, I guess. Do I really think I can help
these people? Do I really want to live through this mess?... that doesn't
really matter I suppose since I'm already here. Still, it takes more than
one bad moment to make a Shi shi Houkou dan. I've got to think this
through," she blasted another target to oblivion and grit her teeth as
the next target appeared. "I've got to get away from all this for a
little while or I'll go nuts."
Shinji walked into the apartment with a bag of groceries and opened the
door. He stood silently as he saw Misato standing in the shower. A dark
smile crossed his lips as he watched for a moment.
"That's not safe. Why just anyone could walk in..." he muttered with a
sly look on his face. He glanced down to see Pen-pen staring at him
quietly.
"Your damn right I'm gonna do something. This is too much to pass up,"
said the boy as he snuck into the kitchen and placed the bag on the
counter.
He glanced around the room and noticed a book labeled 'Project E: Third
Child supervision record.' He frowned a little and flipped through the
pages idly. "Hit on right cheek by much larger student, Suzahara Toji(age
14). Showed no signs of bruising. Do not regard this as a problem, he was
slugged pretty good though don't understand why he wasn't hurt, that
punch should have sent him to the ground! Will wait for intelligence
report on cause of problem. He is one arrogant bastard though.
Shinji frowned and remembered suddenly that Misato was in the shower.
Misato stood soaking up the warmth of the shower and sighed in
contentment. The water suddenly became Ice cold. She shrieked and jumped
out of the room quickly grabbing a towel from just outside the shower. A
flash of light blinded her momentarily and she saw Shinji sitting at the
table with a wrench and a huge grin on his face. He was also holding a
camera. She froze.
"You know, You shouldn't leave the door unlocked like that, just anyone
could walk in!" he said as he snapped another photo. "Gee, barely a
handful my dear. I really am better built than you, a pity really."
Misato's face twisted into a mask of pure rage. "You perverted bastard!
Give me that film!" she roared.
"Catch me first!" said Shinji as he pulled down his eyelid and stuck his
tongue out at her.
An hour later a heavily panting Misato sat at the table with a smug grin
on her face. Shinji sat opposite her in female guise with a frown. They
had a large meal of instant food sitting between them.
"It's not my fault you turned the hot water off ya know," said the woman
with an evil grin of her own.
"That's OK I don't mind being a girl. I just wish you hadn't sat on me
to get that film back. You weigh a ton on such a delicate young flower
like myself," said Shinji with an evil looking grin.
Misato got a sour look, "You know you've got a real attitude problem,
you know that?"
"Yea, I know but at least I'm working on it Misato-chan," said Shinji
indignantly.
"Watch your mouth, and what do you mean, you've been a rotten little
bastard ever since I've known you," said Misato grumpily.
"I'm not used to being around women that's what I mean. It's been a long
time since I'd even seen one before I got here. I guess the monks weren't
much on social skills," said the girl dryly.
"You sound like you need a drink, if you weren't so young..." said
Misato looking at him calmly.
"Don't be so naive' Misato. I was in a monastery, I practically grew up
on Sake, I can handle my liquor better than you can," snorted the girl,
"I ought to be able to with my job."
"You drink?" asked Misato in surprise.
"Not excessively like -some- people, but yes," said Shinji calmly.
"I am not an alcoholic!" said Misato defensively.
"Who the hell said I was talking about you?" said Shinji with a small
grin.
"Anyway, most people will let me buy a can of Sake occasionally.
Especially if they know where I used to live," said the girl.
"Well you do seem to be getting used to operating the Eva which is good,
the only thing I could ask is for you to be quicker to act upon your
orders," said the woman as she took another swig of her can of cheap
beer.
"Well, I still haven't mastered the controls, I'm still growing
accustomed to operating that thing," snorted Shinji as she picked at her
meal for a moment. "Besides, I'm still not good enough to be in a real
fight."
"Hey! What kind of thinking is that? You did great against that angel!
Your scores in simulation are exceptional! If you keep piloting that Eva
like you don't care you'll be dead before you know it!" said Misato in
shock.
"My scores aren't a hundred percent yet. Simulation is not reality, if
I'm not careful someone could end up dead," said Shinji calmly. "When I
die, it won't be at the hands of any angel, I promise you that. Death
does not concern me."
"If you pilot with that kind of attitude you'll be killed!" cried Misato
angrily as she slammed her can on the table.
"Think what you like Misato. I don't care anymore," sighed the girl.
"Damnit Shinji! Your body doesn't belong to you anymore! You're an
important pilot to us! How can you talk like that?!" said Misato in
anger.
"Could you stop leaning over the table like that? I'm trying to eat
here," said Shinji as she pointed down Misato's now exposed cleavage.
"Damnit girl! Is that how you react to any confrontation? No wonder your
so alone in the world, you can't even control your mouth," said Misato
with a dark look on her face as she stared the young girl down hard.
"Don't try to intimidate me Misato, you aren't strong enough to hurt me
if I let you. If you ever try to tell me that my body belongs to anyone
but me again I'll walk out that door and I won't look back. I'm here
because I want to be and no other reason. Humanity will survive without
me some how. It always has in the past and it will continue to do so. I'm
not gonna play angst ridden hero for your little play so you can forget
about that okay!?" said Shinji angrily as she returned the gaze evenly
she stood and turned away from the table.
"Hey! Where are you going?" cried Misato hotly as she watched her for a
moment.
"To bed...Maybe your right about my mouth. But the alternative is worse,
believe me. Don't worry about me Misato, those angel's 'll never know
what hit 'em," said Shinji with a grin as she flexed her arm and walked
into her room closing the door behind her. Her face changed the instant
she was alone. "I've got to get away for a while."
The next day Shinji stood on the roof of the school building alone
during his lunch period practicing a loose Kata on one of the rails that
ran along the edge. He felt at peace here and smiled lightly as the
movements flowed smoothly. He smiled as he realized that he was not
alone. "Well, are you going to say something or just stand there gawking
all day? I'm a busy man Suzahara, Ida," he said without looking at them.
Ida started clapping. "Cool!" he cried. Toji hit him on the head and he
stopped.
"Moron! What makes you think we'd want anything from you?!" cried Toji
angrily. Shinji could tell that he didn't really mean it. "I may not have
a reason for talkin to you...but one thing's for sure. I hate your guts!"
said the boy as he moved directly into Shinji's face.
"What are you gonna do? Hit me? If you don't want anything leave, I
can't afford to worry about how you'll feel every time I do something,"
said Shinji as he stood unimpressed, he jumped back onto the railing and
started his Kata again.
"Hey, you can't ignore me!" roared Toji.
"Can't I? Try and stop me," said Shinji as he continued unimpressed.
"Fine! Remember you asked for it! Don't go cryin to nobody afterwards."
said Toji as he swung at Shinji who simply moved lightly out of the way
without breaking his kata. This went on for several minutes.
Toji was pissed. "You show off! I'll get you yet!" he cried as he
grabbed the fence in frustration.
"Who are you to talk? Besides you're interrupting my practice with this
nonsense," snorted Shinji as he continued.
Toji tried to jump onto the rail and tried to shove Shinji off it. He
toppled over the edge almost immediately. Shinji moved out of the way
easily and caught the boy by the shirt as he fell off. Toji had a look of
complete terror on his face. "Now, are you going to stop this nonsense or
do I have to let you fall into the pool?"
Toji only nodded vigorously and Shinji put him back on the roof a little
roughly.
Shinji looked at Ida and grinned a little. "This never happened," he
told him. The boy only nodded in amazement.
"Ikari," said a quiet voice. The three boys turned to see Rei standing
there. "We just received an emergency call. I'll see you there." said the
girl.
"Sure thing Imoto-chan!" chirped Shinji cheerfully.
The girl gave him a strange look and turned away. Shinji ran after her
and caught up with her as she reached the door back into the school. They
walked together silently.
"I-Imoto..." stammered Ida.
"He's Ayanami's brother? No wonder he's so weird," said Toji as he
huffed for a moment.
Off over the waters of the Pacific Ocean the fourth angel approached...
Spirit within 3: Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Part 4
"Visual confirmation of target! Territorial waters have been breached!"
cried the technician, Shigeru Aoba. He pushed his chair back from his
monitor and turned to face the holographic screen in the room below.
Misato Katsuragi stood flanked by Dr. Ritsuko Ikagi in the center of the
cramped platform that overlooked the huge holographic display. "All
personnel, prepare for level one combat!!" she cried.
"Tokyo three transforming to battle mode. Armament buildings and current
anti-air intercept systems operating at forty eight percent!" cried the
other tech. His name was Hyuga Makoto. A discarded manga sat by his chair
and he pushed his glasses up his nose as he read the information forming
on his monitors.
"Shinji! Are you ready?" said Misato to the silent cockpit of the
waiting Evangelion.
"Does it matter?" said the girl in slight amusement.
"Damn it Shinji, this isn't the time for this," muttered Misato under
her breath.
"Sorry Misato-chan, I'm ready," said Shinji.
Misato growled; he was showing off again.
Ritsuko just stood silently.
After a few moments the woman calmed a bit. "So the fourth angel attacks
while the commander's away...this is sooner than we expected."
"There was no sign of them for fifteen years before that last attack!
This time just three weeks have passed," said Makoto.
"How convenient, can I go kill it now?" said Shinji impatiently from the
comm.
"Shinji, try to show a little respect at least?" said Futsugi from his
perch above Misato on a balcony nearby. He sounded more amused than
anything else.
Misato grit her teeth and said nothing.
"Captain Katsuragi! The committee is demanding the immediate dispatch of
Eva!" said Shigeru as he hung up the phone at his station.
"Tell them I already did," said Misato looking a little sated. Maybe
that would get the old farts worked up anyway. She felt a little better.
Underground in Geo-shelter 334 Shinji's classmates Toji and Kensuke sat
looking bored.
Kensuke had a video camera with an antenna and a pull out screen and was
watching in frustration. "Damn! They're doing it again," he whined.
"Doin' what?" muttered Suzahara grumpily.
"See for yourself," muttered Kensuke as he offered the camera. "All
words again. They never show us civilians anything, and this is such a
big event!"
"You really get off on this stuff, huh?" said Toji.
"ARRRGGGGHHHH! Man I just gotta see it just once! We might never get
another chance." said Kensuke "...Toji?"
"What?"
"Let's sneak out."
"Are you nuts?! We'll be killed!!"
"Okay Shinji?! Neutralize the enemy's A.T. field, then repeat fire. Just
like in practice, got it?" said Ritsuko as she went over the mission one
last time.
"Like any thing ever goes 'Just like practice," muttered Shinji.
"Just do it Shinji. Eva Unit one launch!" said Misato.
"Yea, yea..." said the girl in the cockpit as she felt the G-force blast
her into the seat again.
"Hey Kensuke, wait up already!! You're goin' too fast!" cried Toji as he
chased his friend up the stairs of a temple on the side of a large hill.
They could see most of the city from its peak. Kensuke reached the top
and kneeled on the ground. He pointed his camera at the angel as it moved
over the rooftops of the city. It moved forward and stopped. The angel
then stood on its end and moved it's two lower appendages apart.
"Man! It was worth all the hassle sneaking out here!!" cried Kensuke in
excitement.
"Eeeww," said Suzahara as he looked at the towering monster. A doorway
opened and Unit one appeared from underground.
"There it is!" cried Kensuke in almost rapture. The Eva moved out and
behind one of the buildings, then it just disappeared.
"Hey! Where did it go?" said Toji in shock.
Aida was speechless. "What the...?" he thought as he looked around
desperately.
Then the Eva appeared behind the angel. The monster spun around and two
whip like laser tentacles appeared from the stubby 'arms' below the head.
"Center the target and..." said Shinji reflexively as she aimed for the
red sphere just below the monster's head. She pulled the trigger and
fired a short burst. She saw the first tracer bullet bounce off the
sphere without hitting an A.T. field.
"Shit! Misato, the gun's no good, it's bullet proof. I'm gonna have to
switch over to the progressive knife! Unless you've got something
better?" she reported.
Misato looked at the screen in shock. "What? You only shot it once!"
"She's right Captain, look," said Makoto as he replayed the shots in
super slow motion. "She'll just be wasting ammo and making smoke if she
tries to shoot it."
"Progressive knife has been engaged," said Maya calmly from her seat.
The angel came to life the instant the knife was in Shinji's hands. It's
whip like protrusions slashed about wildly and the girl was barely able
to avoid them. She rushed under a particularly wide swipe and punched out
at the monster as fast as she could, it was still blocked. She tried a
variety of punches and kicks and each time was forced to back off.
"What the hell? Why can't I get through??!!" that was when she realized.
It wasn't her at all; it was the Eva. "Damn it! The Eva can't move like
me, it's not built for speed. The body hasn't been trained!" she cried as
she ducked under another set of slashes. A building fell apart behind
her. The Eva's arm crashed through one of the buildings as it ducked away
again. The girl had a realization.
"Ryoga," she said as she smiled again.
The angel rushed forward and crushed a smaller building as it charged
through it. Shinji did a spinning backhand that connected solidly and
sent the angel flying back a short distance. The angel moved forward in
another attack and Shinji backed away and kicked outwards at the last
moment. The angel was sent back again.
"If I can't go around it, I go through it. I've got to fight like Ryoga
in this thing," muttered Shinji as she looked at the small scratches the
angel had made along the arms of the Eva. She frowned and charged for the
angel with the knife held in an offensive posture. At the last moment
Shinji jumped into the air in a flying sidekick aimed at the core of the
angel. The last thing Shinji remembered of that kick was something
wrapping itself around her leg and tossing her away. Just before the
ground hit, she felt something pull at her back. The internal warning
light started blinking and a timer appeared.
Shinji looked down at her hand, the Eva's hand actually and frowned.
There was both of the idiots. They had practically wet themselves. She
watched the angel draw nearer and sighed. "Get in now!" she cried over
the speakers as she released the manual plug ejection.
"She can't let unauthorized civilians into the entry plug!" cried
Ritsuko angrily.
"Umbilical cable severed! Eva has switched over to internal batteries,"
yelled Aoba.
"What the hell?! Damage report!" cried Misato.
"None! All green, but he only has four minutes and fifty three seconds
of power remaining!" said Makoto.
"Shinji you have to defeat it now! You've only got five minutes of power
remaining!...What the hell is than noise?!!"
Aoba was the first to speak. "It's...Aerosmith?"
It was coming through the speakers over the comm. system.
"<Sweet Emotion...>"
Shinji appeared on the screen with an evil looking grin on her face.
"Let's go ugly. I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out
of gum."
"Oh, shit! Were gonna die!" said Toji from behind her seat.
"My camera! My camera!!" cried Kensuke.
Toji became silent suddenly and just stared at the seat. Kensuke just
looked at him and frowned. "Uh oh."
"We're detecting irregularities in the nervous system!" said Maya.
"That's because he's taken in two foreign bodies, there's noise mixed in
with the nerve pulses! That music is disturbing it too!" cried Ritsuko
from beside her assistant, she was not happy with Shinji.
"Idiot! You're supposed to ask me for orders! You had any number of
options!" yelled Misato.
"Combat situations don't have room for delegation!" said Shinji as he
stood and faced the angel; it had just come within range. She kicked it
and it fell back down the side of the mountain
"Now! Fall back!" Use retrieval route 34--" started Misato, but she was
interrupted.
"No retreat," said Shinji suddenly.
That woke Toji up. "No! We'll be killed!"
"Show a little faith sugar," said Shinji as she turned and winked at
him. He shuddered for a moment. Shinji had seen the looks he was giving
her from the beginning of course. "I could have some fun with this," she
thought to herself. She looked at the angel for a moment and decided.
The progressive knife has been re-engaged!" said Makoto.
"What?!" cried Ritsuko.
"Shinji! follow my orders!" roared Misato.
The girl frowned onscreen and the music got louder. The two boys behind
her were almost in tears and holding each other.
Shinji uttered a battle cry and charged the angel. She held the knife
forward and slid down the side of the mountain. The monster stood waiting
and slashed out as he neared. Shinji vaulted into the air at the last
moment and went over the angel's strike.
"Bakusai tenketsu!!" she cried and tossed the knife into the core. It
shattered instantly and the Eva ran out of power just before it hit the
ground. The song Shinji had been playing ended just before they landed.
"Eva Unit one is inactive!" said Aoba.
"The target?" asked Misato.
"No sign of any activity from the target," said Makoto.
Shinji sat with her head bent down and was breathing hard. She was
almost gasping for breath as she sat looking worn out.
"Hey, y...you OK?" asked Toji.
Shinji turned around and smiled broadly. "Well that was fun! I wasn't
sure if that would work or not," she said as she looked back at them a
little too cheerfully. She had the same look as someone who had just
finished running five miles for the first time.
"She's nuts!" said Kensuke in shocked fear.
"Seriously though, what the hell were you two doing out here?" said
Shinji with a now serious gaze.
The two boy's relaxed a great deal at her now serious demeanor and
blushed.
"Hey, I know you, your that jerk that was dumb enough to get into a
fight with my little brother," said Shinji as she looked at Toji
directly.
He turned extremely red and averted his eyes. "Yea..." he muttered.
"I'm Shinko, nice to meet ya," said Shinji. "If it ain't broke..." she
thought to herself.
Toji just sat looking embarrassed. "I'm Aida Kensuke, and this is
Suzahara Toji," said Kensuke.
"Well we got a while to wait until pick up boys. How well do you know my
little brother?..."

Why the breaking point worked....
My theory on the Bakusai tenketsu is that it works on structure and
hardness. There is nothing solid enough in the human body to use it on so
it doesn't work, bones aren't as hard as you think. Besides, that's been
debated in fanfics before. It doesn't work on most animals or people, but
it might work on a tortoise shell or something. Basically it takes
something rock like in structure. The angel's cores seem to be like that
from what I've seen.
As for cannon, In the manga it isn't used very often. They never get
into the real specifics of it all or anything. Cologne might have only
been generalizing on the whole 'it only works on rocks' thing. I'd really
rather not start an argument about it on the list.
Well I finished another Chapter of this; I can't wait until Asuka meets
this Shinji that's why I've been writing this so often recently. I'm in
no real hurry to finish but I'd like to get to that point in a month or
two. It'll be interesting to see how their relationship goes. Especially
when their ego's clash. I suppose it's good because I haven't worked out
how Asuka will see Shinji's curse, especially since she'll figure out
that he doesn't mind it fairly quickly. But that's still a while off yet.
I think it's kind of ironic that he gets mad about her treating him like
a pervert and then proves her right. I suppose it wasn't really perverted
if you consider the fact that he doesn't really care about her nudity,
Misato won't see it that way. Still, they are starting to warm up to each
other a little.
BTW, Toji is mad at Shinji for making him look stupid, not because he
still thinks he is the pilot of Unit One.
" 'I've never had any cherished dreams or ambitions. I don't aspire to
any career or profession in the future. So far, in the first fourteen
years of my life. Things always happen as they had to happen, and things
will probably continue in the same way.
That's why I never really cared whether I got into an accident or
something and died.' ...I wrote that in an essay for school, and
predictably, the teacher yelled at me...and told me to take the
assignment seriously."
