  Heh...  Aoshi from Ruroni Kenshin uses nitou-ryu kenjutsu as well (and he's *good*), but he's the strong, silent type and he's got enough angst for an entire country (not so good).  Might be fun to see him thrust in command again - I can see parallels between the Oniwan Banshuu and the ST squad.  Sakura/Misao parallels could also be made.

3. Iris Chateurbran. 9-year old French esper girl.
Hyperactive and super-kawaii. She thinks of herself as
an adult and hates to be treated as a child.
Definitely immature and selfish, though. Her esper
powers include psychic energy blasts (or, more
accurately, shining hearts and flowers...) and healing
waves (which, amazingly enough, is done by her teddy
bear!).
Likely contenders: Azusa/Chibi Hinako (R1/2),
Chibi-Usa (SM), Sasami (TM!)

  You forgot the fact that Iris can teleport as well...  I'd say the best personality match here would actually be Asuza from Ranma 1/2 *without* the Uber-Kawaii fixation - although I don't know how much characterization you actually *want* to keep, sooo...

  Again, if you want to have the *least* number of series involved, I'd say Sasami, though she's not, IMO, anywhere as petulant as Iris.

6. Li Kouran. Chinese mad scientist with glasses,
Kansai dialect, and happy-go-lucky attitude. She
desires to use her inventions to make the world a
better place for everyone. However, she has a
well-hidden inferiority complex. Her expertise in
machines is more impressive than her actual combat
ability, which relys on guns and bombs.
Likely contenders: Ukyo/Shampoo/Ranko (R1/2), Skuld
(O!MG)

  Shame on you!  You forgot about Washuu-chan!  :)  I think she'd be near-perfect for the role, if you give her what Kouran has to work with and take away her computers, though Skuld would be a close second choice.

7. Kirishima Kanna. If it wasn't for her very large
chest, many people would mistake her for a hunky man.
She is abnormally strong; she actually swam from
Okinawa to Honshu when her ship sank. She talks rough
and eats enough for ten people. Filled with a passion
to become stronger, but loves kids and friendly in a
rough manner. A Karate master beyond compare, her
fists are more powerful than any weapons other members
use.
Likely contenders: Makoto (SM), Ryoko (TM!)

  I'm actually at a loss here... both of them have a lot of potential in my opinion, though if you want to have the *least* number of series involved, Ryoko would be your best choice - you could cast Kanzaki Sumire as Aeka - her natural arrogance and animosity towards Ryoko will do the rest.
