Shinji discovers that Rei has been raped. Everyone except
Asuka rallies round. Gendo deals with the matter personally.
Shinji and Rei grow closer.
Alllright, rape is a topic that stirs up a lot of emotions
and I'll say that the fic made me uneasy so i'll just stick
to technical points. A few � weird quotation marks outside
the ASCII set that need fixing. Appears to be a problem with
line formatting as well with usually one word over-running
the line, on the next line on its own and leaving a large
shape. Personally i'm the type that's fussy about format of
the fic that i'm reading.
The ending was rather abrupt. i would have liked it better
if Gendo had given some reaction to Ritsuko's report. you
know, leave a little tension and direction hanging in the
air? Overall it was a good read but use some touching up.

Looks like Shinji wandering around in the post-Third Impact
world. He meets and attempts to deliver a message to a
Yukishiro.
I dunno... there isn't really enough to go on to say very
much on my part. Would be nice if there were line breaks
between paragraphs. This looks more like a prologue than
a substantial first chapter but admittedly i'm curious to
see how events unfold - where more, it is promised, will be
explained. One of those delicate balances that authors have
find - between arousing curiosity or frustration in your readers.

The long awaited rewrite of the 'Ascent' series. Author's
notes on his feelings about fanfiction in general and his
motivations in writing this series. Kaworu talks to monoliths,
one of them, I assume, represents God. Symbolism of the gems
- the twelve tribes of Israel? What's Kaworu up to? What's
God up to? Write on, Sparky! ;)

Shinji first person introspective type fic. Seems like a
free verse sort of arrangement as well. Lines were not
wrapped at 72 char or less, made it a little hard to read
as such, i gave it superficial once over - impression is
that it's pretty angsty stuff. And rather self-centred
portrayal of Shinji (note the prevalance of "I"). Sorry,
not really my cup of tea. And the Charlie Brown thing was...
surreal. Dunno, rather ambivalent about it.

Given Scrivener's stature, i'd like to believe that the
revival of this project has got nothing to do with the
success of 'Children of an Elder God'. Not that I'm complaining,
NGE has got a powerful internal logic that causes fics to do
the same things over and over again. Elseworlds can be lots
of fun if managed well.
I'll gripe about the lack of line breaks between paragraphs.
Ok. Done. Kaji picks up Asuka from the train station. They
are chased by strange creatures. Shinji kicks their asses
but Asuka saves the day when she catches a bullet aimed at
Kaji's heart. In short, Shinji and Asuka are super-heroes!
I've been long out of touch with DC stuff so I don't really
know who Shinji and Asuka are supposed to be. Would Scriviner
be kind enough to idiot-proof the fic with a short author's
notes so that i can go 'Doh!'? On the whole this looks like
fun - the textbook way of writing a first chapter that engages
the reader's interest and piques their curiosity. A few graphics
as teasers as well but haven't gotten round to them yet.
This Asuka is definitely different, she's almost Shinji-esque.
What's her parents' relationship to Kaji? Shinji is, well, I
wouldn't say Asuka-esque as in anime-series obnoxious but
definitely confident. This sort of reminded me of the Avengers/
Ranma fusion (what's happened to it, btw, does anyone know?).
This looks really promising, hoping to see more!
Second Chances - Prologue

Shinji angst scenes in the aftermath of the Third Impact.
Belldandy offers him a second chance - Shinji is 'reborn'.
Well, sort of.
Sigh. The Belldandy deus ex machina thing seems a little
tired as a plot device but there isn't enough material on
the main idea of the fic (how is Shinji going to live and
act differently, now he has a second chance?) for me to
make a definite call on the story. wait and see.
