they're probably be more. :)

Now, fate is a funny thing. Especially when you start pulling on
certain strings. Take the following for instance. Change a little
something here, a little something there, and...
EVA Unit 01 spun around, having just killed Tabris in
Terminal Dogma. From inside, the pilot, Shinji Ikari, screamed
out in rage.
"FATHER! YOU, YOU, AAARRGH!"
He could feel his anger flowing through him, and through
Unit 01. Then the same feelings of betrayal and anger reverberated
back through EVA 01, magnifying his own. A flood of feelings came at
him. Then came the memories, information, and finally understanding.
He knew everything, and, gods help Gendo Ikari, Shinji was rather
pissed off. Shinji had Unit 01 jump into the lift shaft and start
climbing towards the control center.
As he climbed, the control center snapped into action. Techs
started scampering for their consoles, trying to look busy while
planning how to get the hell out of there before Shinji turned the
place into confetti without bringing Gendo down on their heads. Talk
about being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Misato was not happy. Her little Shinji had suddenly started
screaming illegibly, in anger, not pain for once, and now he was
taking his EVA on a joyride through NERV. "Pilot, what the hell are
you doing?!"
Shinji's response was disturbingly calm. "What do you think?
I'm coming to kill that son-of-a-bitch, that's what I'm doing."
Almost everyone in the control center was shocked into
silence at this point. Almost everyone.
"Raise LCL pressure in the entry plug." Gendo said, with the
same cold calm as his son.
The voice of the commander shocked the tech crew back into
action. However, as much as they may have tried to carry out their
orders, their attempts were futile. Hyuuga called out, "Unable to do
so, commander. The signal is being rejected by Unit 01."
Dr. Akagi, who had been watching the entire proceedings,
chose this point to jump in. "What?! That shouldn't be possible!
The pilot should not be able to block the signal."
Hyuuga rechecked his readings. "Doctor, the _pilot_ isn't
blocking the system. The interference is coming from Unit 01 itself."
Shinji's voice came over the com link. "Oh, and Commander,
Mother says hello."
At this, Gendo's face paled, and his usual calm was
lost. As his composure dropped away, a whisper escaped his lips.
"Yui."
Most of the bridge crew became very confused at this point.
Misato, who had already been a bit worried about Shinji's mental
health after he started screaming, was afraid he had finally snapped.
However, when she looked over and saw Ritsuko, she wondered if he
might not be so crazy after all.
Ritsuko's eyes were as wide as saucers, and she had backed
herself up against the wall. She was mumbling "oh shit" over and
over.
By this time, Unit 01 was almost at the control center.
But just as the unit was about to reach command, Rei walked in.
Unit 01 had a giant, rather disturbing, smile upon it's face
as it reached the control center and saw Gendo staring out the
window. However, before he could rip Gendo into itsy bitsy bits, Rei
stood in between the commander and Unit 01. Her face was a model of
rationality as she stared down Unit 01. Shinji temporarily halted his
assault, unwilling to injure Rei. "Rei, everyone, leave now. I don't
want to, hell I _won't_ go through you to get to him. So move. Now."
"Ikari-kun, I can't let you do this." She said, staring
into the monstrous eyes of the Evangelion.
Shinji's rationality broke down. "Rei! Look at what he's
done! He destroyed Asuka, he nearly killed Toji, Kaji's dead, Kaoru's
gone- even you died, what, a couple of times now? And worse than
that, the son-of-a-bitch, he, he, he-"
Rei calmly asked, "He what?"
Shinji's face contorted into a face of pure hatred. "HE
LET MY MOTHER DIE!"
Gendo Ikari's control, which he had slowly been recovering,
once again shattered, allowing a small amount of guilt to show. With
everyone who hadn't already ran for their lives focused on the battle
of words between Rei and Shinji, however, no one noticed.
Rei seemed thoughtful for a moment. Then she said quietly,
"If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here."
"I know!" Shinji yelled. He took a second to gain his
composure before continuing. "I know. He's my father. I have him to
thank for my miserable existence too. I don't care. We can't do this
anymore! Too many people have been hurt. Too many have, have died..."
Shinji said, fading at the end.
However, Rei still wouldn't move out of Unit 01's way. "I'm
sorry, Shinji."
"Please. I can't- I can't hurt you. Then I'd be just like
_HIM_. Please Rei, let me do this."
Rei finally spoke up. "No Shinji-kun. I can't let you do
this."
Shinji knew he had lost. He couldn't harm Rei, not even for
this. Unit 01's head bowed down in defeat and it's systems began to
power down.
However, Rei continued. "I cannot allow you to have that on
your soul. I'll do it." Rei whipped around and flew towards Gendo.
Before he could react, Rei's fist, charged by the power of an AT
field, drove through his face, and out the back of his skull. His
twitching body fell to the ground, lifeless. She looked down at his
lifeless body, and the corner of her mouth inched up. "Gomen,
sensei."
You may be reading this right now and saying "WHAT THE
HELL?!" I was listening to the song "Another Brick In The Wall" by
Pink Floyd, and when it said "Teacher, leave those kids alone,"
a few ideas came to mind. First, I was looking at the background
of my computer, a picture of Rei looking rather pissed off. Then,
I remembered reading somewhere that Rei calls Gendo "sensei."
I can't remember if this is the case in the subbed I've seen, though.
Teacher+Kids+Pissed Off=Kill Gendo. C'mon, you know you wanted to
kill him sometimes too.
2/22/1999- I just did a bit of revision. I was reading this and
I
realized it was way too short for my tastes, so I did a little
editing, added a little detail. I might do so again later, I don't
know.
6/19/1999- More revision. I think it's finally ready for the
FFML.
5/30/2000- Once more to the list for review, then it's off to
the
archives.
C&C is welcomed, flames will be extinguished, then burnt in
offering to the god of unhappy fanfic authors.
Oh, one last thing- last time I wrote this, I had a couple people
suggest I keep going. I still can't see where else to go with this, but
suggestions are welcome.
