I'm not exactly sure exactly how well yen trades into dollars (or of the
cost of living in Japan though I'm of the understanding it's on the expensive
end) but, limited knowledge aside, isn't that like... a LOT of money?! A
ridiculously lot of money?
A yen is approximately worth a penny. Therefore, Ranma opened an envelope with a
thousand dollars in it, and he's getting five hundred a month for expenses, and
50,000 dollars as a reward if he doesn't marry until 2012. Truthfully, not a
heck of a lot in my opinion for what they're asking. Just to compare, at the
lowest wage, an assistant language instructor made 250,000 yen a month in 1995 in
Japan, which is 3 million yen in a year. Remember Nabiki charging Kuno for
photos in the beginning? 5000 yen a batch, or 10 bucks a photo. Not as much as
you might have thought, but a nice profit for a couple hours work.
It took me a moment to realize this meant RANMA couldn't marry. ^_^
This REALLY may not be as bad as he thought. Nothing like money to excuse
himself from making a decision :)
Yeah, but if they learn it's only 5 million yen, Ukyo or Shampoo might offer to
pay him off.... Shampoo could certainly manage it, and Ukyo could as well, if
she sold her shop. (Which she would do in an instant if she could get Ranma,
child and all.)
I agree with the rest but, uh... How does this stop him from marrying
anyone?
Nothing is stopping him from marrying anyone, as long as he decides he doesn't
want the 5 million yen....
