There is very little evidence that Ranma
refuses
to hit a girl in the original manga. He hit Shampoo
just fine, he kicked Kodachi with P-chan, and he hit
Kiima without hesitation, to name a few. Most of the
comment she makes are like "You're a girl. I can't go
all-out on you.", "I don't like beating up girls.",
and
so forth. This and other things indicate that he's
only reluctant to hit girls, and does not absolutely
refuse to hit one.
There are little fanfics (to my knowledge) that
attempted to explain why Ranma doesn't like to hit
girls, and many fanfic authors assume he's a sexist.
Perhaps he is, but would that make most men in this
world sexists? At any rate, there ARE quite a few
fanfics where Ranma DOES hit girls. "Ill Met By
Starlight" comes to mind.
