Summary:
A Pretty Sammy spin-off, starring Achika as Tsunami's magical girl.
You know, never having had experience with canon Achika, I am at a loss to
the specific components of her personality. I do not, however, believe
cynicism featured heavily among them. Again, I could be wrong, but if you
could tone that particular quality down a few hairs, you'd have a better
story. The rest, I can honestly see nothing wrong with.
Yeah, I know, this version is a little more cynical than the standard
Achika, but it was necessary for some plot devices and to subtly reinvent
her for the purpose of the project. In a similar vein, PS Sasami was given a
degree of cynicism and impaired capacity to deal with the weird that the
canon OAV Sasami didn't have. I tried to emulate that change with Achika,
whilst not changing her beyond recognition or losing what made her so
loveable in the first place. I deliberately kept the change less subtle than
that made by the series creators to Sasami; it didn't need to be that
extreme anyway - Achika already had a limited capacity for weird, I just
changed her responses to it (for the purpose of plot, and keeping with the
pattern of the Sammy characters), and subtly reinvented her for the 21st
Century (itself necessary for both plot, and the timeframe of the series).
I hope this clarifies my POV, and I'm glad you didn't find too much wrong
with it.
