This chapter introduces some of the new ideas that I had for the
story... of course, I had them well before I started reading large
amounts of Pokemon fanfiction, so they won't all be new to you
(possibly), but I assure you, they were new to me! Let me know what you
think of them!
Jellics Hateful Quest
Chapter 7: Mewtwos Company, Mewthrees a Crowd...
At long last, Jellic and Ashley emerged at the far side of the
Forest of Mist. Strangely, the sky was still bright. We must not have
been in there very long, remarked Jellic. The suns still up.
No, Ashley said through a yawn. We were in there the whole night.
Its tomorrow now. She pointed down the road to a small town. Thats
Maroon Town. We can stop there and get some sleep, then search the
surrounding area for new Pokemon before we get back to your quest.
Maroon Town? asked Jellic. I thought all of your cities were
named after foods.
No, silly! Thats just the convention for towns south of Orange
Harbor! Everything between that and Gold Mountain is named after a
color.
Of course, mused Jellic. Orange is a color and a food. And gold
is both a color and a metal, so north of that theyre named after
metals, right?
Sort of, said Ashley, leading the way toward Maroon Town. Anyway,
I dont think Maroon Town has a recognized Pokemon Gym, but we should be
able to find some trainers there who will battle us. Your Mewtwo will
probably cream them all.
I dont like the idea of turning such a dangerous Pokemon against
innocent people, said Jellic.
Dont worry about it! It wont be attacking the trainers, only
their Pokemon. And besides, now that youve captured it, it should be
tame enough for you to handle. Some Pokemon dont respond well to
inexperienced trainers, but with your natural talent and your Mind
Badge, that shouldnt be a problem.
Jellic shushed Ashley as he heard a voice coming from the nearby
forest. Go Growlithe! shouted the girls voice. Jellic moved closer to
investigate, and Ashley followed. Just beyond the treeline, a girl
several years younger than Ashley was using a Pokemon that resembled a
cross between a flaming dog and a tiger to battle a rather demonic
looking Pokemon with a watch dangling from a chain in one hand.
Hypno, chanted the Hypno, swinging its watch back and forth in
front of the Growlithes eyes. The Growlithe growled at the Hypno, but
without much conviction, as the Hypnosis took effect.
Growlithe, no! Dont you dare fall asleep! Bite! shouted the girl,
but the Growlithe turned around three times, curled up on the forest
floor, and fell asleep. Growlithe, return! shouted the girl, as she
prepared to throw out her next Pokeball. But the Hypno vanished into the
trees before she could call out another fighter. No! It Teleported
away! cried the girl. Then she began to cry for real.
Please dont cry, urged Ashley, nearly scaring the girl out of her
wits. Sorry, I didnt mean to scare you. My name is Ashley, and this is
Jellic. I know youre sad that the Hypno got away, but youll find
another one. Next time, you should carry some Awakening potions to keep
your Pokemon awake.
I know. I used them all up trying to catch a Drowzee earlier, but
it knocked out some of my Pokemon and ran away. I thought I could catch
the Hypno, but I didnt know Hypnos learned Teleport.
They dont, said Ashley. It must have belonged to a trainer once
who taught it Teleport with a Technical Machine. Apparently, its former
trainer couldnt control it and it Teleported away. The girl laughed at
the prospect of an inexperienced trainer losing a Pokemon to his own
foolish ambition.
There, isnt that better? Dry your eyes now, said Jellic. The girl
did, and stared at his badge.
You have a Mind Badge? Wow! Where are the rest of your badges?
I dont have any others, explained Jellic. Just the Mind Badge.
Thats impossible! said the girl. And you only have five Pokemon?
How could you possibly have beaten Heidi? What Pokemon do you have,
anyway?
Hey, youre getting a little familiar there! said Jellic. We don
t even know your name yet.
Oh, sorry. My names Lobia. I live in Maroon, but I like to come
out to the forest to catch Pokemon. Ive got a Growlithe, an Abra, a
Metapod, and a Pikachu.
Jellic nodded, even though none of those names meant anything to
him. Ive got a Machop, a Caterpie, a Magikarp, a Meowth, and -- he
paused for effect -- a Mewtwo.
A MEWTWO! No way! Lobia crossed her arms in disbelief. Show me.
Fair enough. Jellic tossed out the Mewtwos Pokeball and the cat
appeared in all its evil glory.
Cool! said Lobia, leaning down for a closer look. Suddenly, Jellic
s satchel began to shake, and a dull glow came from within. What do
you have in that bag? A Voltorb? Jellic reached into his satchel and
pulled out the glowing stone. Wow! Ive never seen a stone like that
before! What is it?
Jellic couldnt remember, but Ashley did. Its the Cyber Stone!
she said. Its glowing because theres a Pokemon nearby that can use it
to evolve! Jellic held the Cyber Stone close to the Mewtwo, and the
Mewtwo began to glow. Jellic felt the Cyber Stone dissolve as the Mewtwo
grew to about Jellics size. Its head expanded and its arms grew longer
in proportion to its body as it expanded. When the glow faded, the cat
stood nearly a head above Jellic, with a tail the size of one of Jellic
s arms. It examined its own body, surprised at the transformation, but
evidently impressed. What is that thing? asked Ashley.
Jellic pointed his Pokedex at it with fumbling fingers. Mewthree,
an advanced form of Mewtwo. Mewthree evolves from Mewtwo only in the
presence of the Cyber Stone. Its physical strength as well as its
Psychic powers improve with this transformation, and it learns the
Telekinesis attack, which allows it to lift its opponent off of the
ground and slam it down with tremendous force.
Excellent, said Jellic. With Mewthree, Machop, and Gyarados in my
fighting party, no one will stand a chance against me. And once Karddor
Labs has been destroyed, I can move on to a dimension where I can
actually fight for myself. But there will be times when Ill miss
Pokemon...
Lobia, who was staring at Jellic with her head tilted for the
duration of this speech, could contain her curiosity no longer. What
are you talking about? But before Jellic could answer, the Mewthree
finished examining itself and decided to test its new powers on its
master. It glared at Jellic until he felt himself fly up into the air,
hanging by a Psychic thread high above the Mewthrees head.
Put me down! Mewthree, return! shouted Jellic, holding out the
Pokeball to recall the Mewthree. But the Mewthree simply sidestepped,
avoiding the red beam of light, and let Jellic fall to the ground.
I was afraid of this! shouted Ashley. Its too powerful for you
to control, even with the Mind Badge! Youll have to prove to it that
youre a good enough trainer before it will obey you!
All right, then lets battle. Magikarp, youre my last hope once
again! Jellic threw the Pokeball down. It stopped before hitting the
ground and floated back up into Jellics hand. What? The Mewthree
raised itself to full height and stepped closer, towering over Jellic.
You want to fight one-on-one, dont you? An evil smile crossed his
face. Then thats what well do.
Three, said the Mewthree, blasting Jellic with its Psychic attack.
Jellic reeled, but managed to stay on his feet and launch himself at the
big cat. Mewthree caught him in midair with its Telekinesis attack and
lifted him up out of reach. Puny human, did you really think you could
contain a powerful creature such as myself in your puny Pokeball? Jellic
was in shock. The Mewthree was actually communicating with him
telepathically! Answer me, human. Why do you seek to entrap me?
I need your help to destroy the evil Karddor Labs, answered
Jellic.
Karddor created my kind. Karddor created Mewtwo from the puny Mew
and developed the Cyber Stone that allowed me to evolve into Mewthree.
But they use their technology for evil! I want to see the
technology of Karddor Labs turned to good purposes!
Then you do not seek its destruction, merely its conversion into a
place where technology serves both human and Pokemon. I can see into
your mind and know what it is that you truly desire. I must be sure that
you also know what your true desire is. Seek Karddor with hatred in your
heart and it will consume you. Seek Karddor with temperance and its evil
shall fall. Great Jellic, accept the task that you were born to
accomplish. Seek the benefit of humankind, not its destruction. Respect
So, you made it through the Forest alive, interrupted a familiar
voice. Jellic fell to the ground in a heap as the Mewthrees
concentration was broken. It looks like youve bitten off more than you
can chew there, Jellic, said Droll Vordekar. But if you can survive
the Forest of Mist, youre a lot more resourceful than I gave you credit
for.
Whos that man? asked Lobia.
That man is Droll Vordekar, possibly the most evil man in
existence, answered Jellic. Were still not returning your Pokemon,
and that includes the Caterpie.
Caterpie? Vordekar shrugged. I know of no Caterpie. But I am
intrigued by the amazing specimen youve found there. What is it?
Jellic looked up at the Mewthree. What do you think? Should we show
him your power?
Mew. Three! answered the Mewthree, lifting Vordekar into the air.
Lets teach him a lesson without harming him. Order me to lower him so
that I appear to be under your command, although I currently serve only
myself.
Jellic nodded slightly. Mewthree, put him down! The Mewthree
sneered and let Vordekar drop. Gently! shouted Jellic, and Vordekar
stopped a few inches above the ground and slowly finished his descent.
Now, Vordekar, are you willing to make a deal?
Vordekar got to his feet and reached for his Pokebelt. Its time to
show you the true power of the Secret Machines! I didnt want to have to
do this, but youve left me no choice! Pokemon, go! He tossed the
Pokeballs out, releasing a small bundle of tangled vines, a tiny seal, a
hedgehog made entirely of sand, a small floating boulder with muscular
arms, a small mouse with a tail shaped like a lightning bolt, and a
two-headed bird with tiny wings.
Ill take you on! shouted Lobia, tossing out a Pokeball of her
own. Pikachu, go! From her Pokeball emerged a lightning-tailed mouse
just like Vordekars, only slightly smaller and a brighter shade of
yellow. Pikachu, Thunder Shock! The Pikachu launched a stream of
electricity from its body at Vordekars Pokemon. The hedgehog leaped in
front of the other Pokemon, protecting them with its body. Surprisingly,
the electricity didnt harm the creature at all.
Foolish girl. Electricity does nothing to a Ground type Pokemon
like Sandslash. But Ground type attacks are very powerful against
Electric Pokemon like your Pikachu. Sandslash, Tectonic Shift! The
Sandslash buried its claws in the ground and ripped the earth apart,
forming a huge crack into which the Pikachu fell. Lobia reached down to
grab it, just catching the tip of its tail, but then lost her balance
and tumbled into the fissure herself. Jellic darted forward, grabbing
Lobias waist before she could fall out of reach and hauling her up onto
safe ground as the Sandslash pulled the two chunks of earth together.
Lobia got out of the pit just in time, but the ground closed on the
Pikachu, leaving only its tail sticking up out of the ground.
Pikachu, no! screamed Lobia, digging at the ground in a frantic
attempt to rescue her Pikachu.
Now, call off your Mewthree and return my Pokemon to me before I am
forced to demonstrate another Secret Machine technique, threatened
Vordekar as he recalled the Sandslash, which had fainted from the effort
of performing the Secret Machine technique.
Jellic looked up at Mewthree inquisitively. I do not think we can
run from this battle at this point, Jellic. Even though our power is not
at its peak, we must prove our superiority or else our opponent will
have the advantage.
No deal, Vordekar, said Jellic. If we have to fight you off, we
will.
Be careful! shouted Lobia, as Ashley tried to help her recover the
Pikachu. Pikachus tail is very sensitive! It could shock you, or you
might damage the tail!
My patience is waning, said Vordekar. Seel, lets see how the
little girl likes water! Inundation! The seal barked sharply and spat a
huge column of water into the air from its tiny mouth. The water poured
down onto Lobia, as Ashley quickly backed away. Lobias screams were
quickly drowned out by the rushing water as it covered her. But instead
of draining away, the water formed a bubble around Lobia. She pounded on
the side of the bubble, but its surface tension held firm as the air
began to leak from her lungs in tiny bubbles that floated to the top of
her watery prison and collected there. This can go on all day if youd
like, but Im not sure that human beings can go that long without
oxygen. Two, maybe three minutes is all Id give her.
Mewthree took a threatening step toward the Seel, focusing its
Telekinesis on the tiny Pokemon. The Seel rose into the air and landed
with a crash. Vordekar recalled it. You shouldnt have done that. Now I
have no way to release the bubble of water. Youve just doomed your
little friend to a watery grave. And Ill tolerate no interference from
the likes of you. Pikachu, Live Wire!
The Pikachu lashed out with its tail, which extended almost
magically as it snaked its way around the Mewthree, wrapping it up
completely before it could react. The Mewthree struggled to break its
bonds, but the Pikachus tail was far stronger than Caterpie string, and
held firm. Pika. PI KA CHUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! shouted the Pikachu as its
tail became a superconductive coil, electrocuting the Mewthree. The
Mewthrees mental screams of anguish burned a hole through Jellics
brain.
Stop it, Vordekar! Just stop it! he shouted through the curtain of
pain.
Hand over your Pokemon, called the scientist. All of them.
Over my dead body! returned Jellic.
I accept. Vordekar pointed at Ashley. Geodude, Medusa Stare! The
boulder glared at Ashley, who tried to move out of the way, but found
her feet stuck to the ground. She looked down to see that her legs below
the knees had become stone, and the petrifaction was extending upwards,
turning the rest of her body to stone. She screamed. And now for you,
Jellic. Which element will be the most amusing? Grass, perhaps. Tangela,
Coma Bind! The tangle of vines extended a leafy tendril and quickly
wrapped it around Jellics neck, choking him. Jellic reached for his
Pokebelt as he felt himself blacking out and threw the only Pokeball he
had that contained a conscious Pokemon.
The Magikarp suddenly found itself amid many powerful Pokemon, with
no orders to follow and a very evil sounding laugh echoing in the
surrounding air. The Magikarp immediately launched itself at the nearest
Pokemon the Geodude. Its attack failed to do any significant damage,
but the Geodude lost its concentration, and fainted from the effort of
using the technique. Ashleys body stopped turning to stone, but she was
already a statue from the waist down. She strained to reach Lobias
bubble, but it was inches out of reach.
What a nuisance this Magikarp is, said Vordekar. Lets teach it a
lesson. Doduo, Peck it! The two-headed bird responded, hammering the
Magikarp with its hard beak. The Magikarp attempted to Splash away, but
only succeeded in knocking the Pikachu over. The Pikachus tail shrank
to its original size, freeing the Mewthree from the coils of the Live
Wire attack. However, the Mewthree was so weak that it fainted as soon
as it was released.
Jellic seized the opportunity while Vordekar was distracted to grab
the Tangelas vine and pull it as hard as he could. The vines grip on
his neck didnt relent, but he pulled on the vine until the creature
began to unravel. Before long, the Tangela was no more than a single
strand of vine with a pair of eyes attached at one end and feet
somewhere in the middle. Unable to pull itself together, the Tangela
fainted, freeing Jellic. Okay, Vordekar. Youre going to pay for this!
Vordekar fumed. Thats it! Im tired of this. Doduo, Fly! The
Doduo flapped its way up into the air, then folded its wings, diving at
Jellic with supersonic speed. Jellic took the blow in the chest and fell
backward, right into Lobias bubble. The bubble shifted slightly, coming
into contact with the sharp point at the end of the Pikachus tail,
which was sticking up out of the ground nearby. The bubble popped,
spraying water everywhere. The Doduos feathers got wet, and it fell to
the ground, unable to fly. Vordekar furiously recalled his useless
Pokemon. You got lucky again, Jellic. But I wouldnt count on your luck
holding out in the future. One of these days, I will defeat you! He
stormed away. Jellic started to give chase.
Jellic! Lobias not moving! shouted Ashley. Jellic swore under his
breath and turned back, examining Lobia carefully.
Shes not breathing, and she doesnt have a pulse, reported
Jellic.
Oh my god, is she
Dont give up yet! shouted Jellic, beginning CPR. He pinched Lobia
s nose shut and breathed into her mouth twice, then placed his hands on
her chest and gave fifteen quick compressions. If only we had a source
of electricity, we might be able to jump-start her heart.
What about the Pikachu? If you could dig it up, it might work!
Jellic quickly dug around the Pikachus tail. The earth, which had been
softened by the recent deluge, gave way easily; and Jellic quickly
exhumed the buried Pokemon and placed it on Lobias chest.
Now, Pikachu, give me everything youve got! he shouted.
Piiiiiiii, moaned the Pikachu as it strained to give off a spark.
Its been grounded, explained Ashley. Its why Electric Pokemon
are weak against Ground type attacks. It cant even make a single
spark.
Lobias life is at stake here! shouted Jellic. He bent down until
his eyes were level with the Pikachus. Listen here. This girl is
depending on you. Youre no weakling; I know it! Now I want to see you
give her that spark she needs, and I want to see it now! The Pikachu
nodded and scrunched its eyes closed, giving its all to the task of
producing a shock. But its power was completely gone. Well see about
that! said Jellic, grabbing the Pikachus tail. Pikachus face grew
dark with fury.
Pika. CHU! it shouted, emitting a single blast of electricity that
threw Jellic backwards. Jellic quickly recovered, and moved the fainted
Pikachu to one side so that he could listen to Lobias pulse again.
It worked! he shouted triumphantly. Her hearts beating again!
Jellic, you did it! You saved her!
Not yet. Now I have to get her breathing, said Jellic, giving
Lobia rescue breaths. It was several minutes before Lobia began to
breathe on her own. Jellic sat back, exhausted from his efforts.
Jellic, are you okay? asked Ashley. That Tangela sure had it in
for you, and that Doduo hit you right in the chest...
Im fine, replied Jellic. I just have to figure out how to get
both of you into town. Suddenly, Ashley began to rise into the air.
Jellic looked to see the Mewthree sitting up, using its Telekinesis.
Youre amazing, Mewthree, said Jellic, recalling Lobias Pikachu
to its Pokeball and replacing it in her belt. You took that much damage
and youre still okay.
I Recovered. I need medical attention, but can serve you until I
receive it. Quickly, there is no time to waste. We must reach Maroon
Town before these conditions become irreversible. Jellic nodded, picked
up Lobia, and set off for Maroon Town with Mewthree and Ashley following
close behind.
