Tenchi stood, head bowed in a darkened room. He appeared to be in
his mid twenties, his hair now hung over his forehead while his
ponytail reached down to mid-back he was wearing clothes that
were similar to what he wore as a youth, only adjusted for his filled
out frame. With a snap-hiss he activated Tenchi-ken, which
bathed the room in a blue glow. A slight smile tugged at his lips,
the feel of the blade in his hand brought back memories of home
and his life before Yavin.

A slight buzzing in the air reminded him of why he was here. He
quickly took a normal Juraian battle stance, and then closed his
eyes. The first remote fired off a stun bolt, which he easily
blocked, as were the next three. Then the second and third remotes
began firing. Tenchi became a blur of movement as he twisted and
turned dodging what he could and blocking the rest, all the while
he stayed in the same spot. Finally the droids beeped, the signal
that he'd been practicing for ten minutes. The droids would cease
fir for three minutes before starting up again, only this time
they would work in concert.

Tenchi switched the blade to his right hand, then reversed his grip
so the blade ran parallel to his arm. He then dropped into a more
unorthodox stance. One of the things he'd seen at the academy was
that the same basic sword styles were taught to everyone. His
training in the Juraian style had made him very formidable at first.
As time passed he'd gained an interest in learning as many
sword styles as possible. His grandfather, once he'd learned of
this, made it a point to send him as many books on various
styles of sword fighting as possible

The droids started up. Tenchi ducked, weaved and seemingly
danced around the room as he avoided the blaster fire. The
droids adjusted and began to heard him toward a wall. Smiling
slightly Tenchi leapt straight up, and kicked off the wall to sail
over the remotes. As he landed the timer went off signaling the
end of the exercise. That's when the clapping began.

Tenchi sighed as he turned to face the intruder while deactivating
his blade, already knowing who it was "Mayuka, what have I told you
about sneaking into my practice sessions."

The young blue haired girl smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry
daddy but the captain had a message for you." She looked up at him,
a curious expression on her face, "How long did you know I was here?"

Tenchi grabbed a towel of the wall rack and wiped the sweat from
his brow "Since you walked in. That's why I lead the remotes
away from you. Now what is this about a message?"

The young girl looked up in thought "He said we will reach the
Juraian/GP escort in two hours. He wanted to know if he should be
expecting any royalty to board 'The Venture'."

Tenchi stared off into space for a moment then shook his head. "Tell
him no. We shouldn't see any of the royal family or other nobles
until we reach Jurai." The young girl nodded and turned to go "Oh
and Mayuka, don't forget your meditation drills." She grumbled a
bit but nodded.

As the door closed behind her Tenchi moved to one of the walls.
Touching a button a small section of it moved away to revel the
molted blue pattern of hyperspace. The Venture was a modified
Corellian Corvette. One of A fleet of ships dedicated to ferrying
various nobles to and from home. Tenchi leaned against the wall and
thought of how this all began 10 years ago.

*****

Once again Tenchi found himself strapped into one of Washu-chan's
devices. The only difference this time was that it was voluntary.
Washu-chan had explained that she might have found the reason Tenchi
could not call upon the light hawk wings. Considering the ever
increasing number and power of the people arriving at his home to
challenge or kill him he figured it would be in his best interest to
reach his full potential. And to do that he'd need use of the light
Hawk wings.

Craning his neck a bit he was able to spot Washu who was typing
away at her computer. A frown was evident on her face as she
muttered something about impossible readings. After several minutes
of this Tenchi's curiosity got the better of him.

"Er...Washu-chan?" The mad scientist continued her muttering.
Clearing his throat he tried again. "Washu-chan!"

"What!" The Crab haired scientist glared at him anger, then
when she realized whom she was speaking to, she calmed down
"I'm sorry Tenchi but these readings are making no
sense. According to this, the amount of power you've used
should've burnt you to a crisp. But since you're still alive..."
her voice trailed off, as her eyes grew bigger.

Tenchi, feeling a bit nervous and left out began to ask what was
going on when she laughed. He stared in complete bewilderment
as the 20,000 year old mad scientist nearly laughed her self off
the chair. After a few moments Washu-chan calmed down and
shook her head. She began typing again.

"You know Tenchi, 5,000 years of imprisonment must have dulled
my skills. It never occurred to me that you could be using another
power, like the force."

Tenchi blinked "The Force? What is that?"

She continued to type away as she answered "Its an energy field
created by all living things. It's everywhere and in everything,
basically it binds this universe together."

Tenchi thought about it for a moment before asking "Okay,
if I could manipulate this field, how would that explain the Light
Hawk Wings?"

"If you are capable of using the force, then it may mean that
it's allowing you to safely create Juraian energy. You see
I did a lot of research concerning Juraian energy during my days
teaching at the academy. I wanted to know if the reason Juraians
couldn't produce the energy was due to Tsunami wanting a firm
control over them or something else."

Tenchi nodded as he began to understand. Washu-chan suddenly
smiled in triumph

"Bingo!" She looked at Tenchi "Congratulations Tenchi
you have a high Midi-chlorian count."

"Tenchi blinked what the heck's a midi-chlorian?"

She started to release him from the machine as she answered.
"Small microorganism in the blood stream."

Tenchi sat up and reached for his shirt "So they allow me to use the
force?"

Washu-chan looked at Tenchi as if he'd grown another head "No,
God no! How exactly the force is used is still not clear. In fact I
was planning to solve that one after solving the mystery of the
light hawk wings. Any ways, midi-chlorians are attracted to people
with high force potential. The higher it is the more you've got.

He nodded as he hopped of the table and walked around pieces of
equipment to look at her screen. "So this force is what allows
me to safely create the light Hawk wings."

She looked up and smiled "Right."

"Okay, how does it do that?"

Washu-chan settled herself in. "Well, the energy produced by
most Juraian trees are very unstable by design. It seems Tsunami
wanted a type of energy that could be turned into nearly anything.
Basically you could create a ship from Juraian energy if you had
sufficient power and knowledge."

"Whoa, whoa, wait a sec. I could create a ship with this?!"

She nodded "In truth you already did. Remember the black hole
you escaped from during the Clay incident. That sphere you
created was a basically a ship. You could make a
fully sentient being from thin air, or a universe if you
had sufficient knowledge and power. "

Tenchi stared, "I...I..I could...create a universe?!"

Washu-chan shrugged. "Its within the realm of possibility.
I doubt however that you could generate that much power.
More and likely your stuck at things only the size of a
small moon."

Tenchi blinked, "Only the size of a small moon?" He
shook his head "So why can't other Juraians do this?
I mean even if they are only able to use the energy
created by the trees, they should be able to do similar
things?"

She shifted slightly in her seat. "To a small extent they
can. Yosho's shield and Ayeke's logs are proof of that.
However, even the royal family can only safely make use of
1 percent of the energy produced by a tree. Anything more
and they risk being burnt out."

He nodded "So where does the force come in?"

"During my research I found that if a fully trained
Jedi assisted a Juraian, that person could make use of
20% of a trees power. The Force stabilizes more of
the energy than is normally usable."

"So why aren't their any Jedi helping the royal family"

Washu-chan let out a deep breath. "I also found out that a
Jedi can cut a Juraian off from the trees. That got
out and the Jedi were quickly driven from all systems
that were influenced by Jurai."

"How'd that get out?"

She sighed, "You remember Yakage? He felt it was necessary
to alert the royal family to this. Sadly, a bunch of nobles
intercepted his message and from there all hell broke
lose."

Tenchi arched an eyebrow "I see. Well, how do I learn
to use this force?"

Washu-chan became a bit uneasy "It would be unwise for you to try to
train yourself. There are aspects of the force that could destroy you
if you. The only place you could learn is at the New Jedi academy on
Yavin." Seeing his questioning looks she continued "Its in what is
now called the New Republic. Here, I'll give you the information I
have on all this." After a few deft touches of the keyboard, Tenchi
found his arms full of books on Jedi lore and Republic history.

He blinked several times "Err..."

Which was all he got out before Washu-chan ushered him out. "Well
now unless you want to help me with more experiments its time for
you to go." She blinked at the suddenly vacant laboratory.

*****

It was mid day in the Masaki household, so the girls were either
resting after the morning fights or playing at their hobbies. This
allowed the Young Masaki to slip up the stairs. After a quick check
on Mayuka, Tenchi finally entered his room. He set the books down
at the foot of his bed. Then he sat down on his bed he mulled over
the things Washu had said. He really didn't want to leave but
he was no good to them if he couldn't defend them and he couldn't do
that with out full knowledge of his abilities. A small sigh escaped
his lips. It would be hard on him but it would be harder on the
girls. He had no clue how they'd take it.

His eyes drifted to the books. He couldn't make a decision with out
as information. Moving with a little trepidation he picked up the
first book titled. "The History of the Republic." Opening the cover
he began to read.

'A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away....'
*****

3 months later

Tenchi finished packing the last of what he'd take with him to
Yavin. The rest would be shipped later. As he took a moment to
rest he could almost feel the sadness that had descended over
the house. Ever since his announcement that he was leaving
the girls had basically gone to pieces. They'd begged him to
stay or at least take them with him. But some how he'd found
the strength to remain firm. Only Washu-chan had been
supportive of his decision at first, followed by Sasami
and Kiyone. The others were still convinced this was a bad
idea.

He slung the pack on his back and opened the door and headed
outside. The rest of the household was gathered near the lake.
Already a Juraian ship hung in the air ready to take him to his
rendezvous with a New Republic patrol that would see him to
Yavin. He'd tried to avoid having a royal escort but given up
at then insistence of Funaho.

Most of the girls stood almost in a line, seeming like a
barricade to the ship. Gathering his wits he approached
them. Ayeka and Ryoko moved forward together.

"Tenchi" Ayeka began "Is there no way..." Ryoko seemed in capable
of speech but he could see the hope in her eyes. He smiled but
shook his head. Almost in unison their heads bowed. Tenchi tensed,
the last time they'd asked him and he'd replied similarly, both had
tried to break his legs to force him to stay. It had taken him and
his Grandfather to subdue them.

He put a hand on both their shoulders "You will be fine, and I won't
be gone forever. But this is a good chance for you both to find out
who you are. Now is the time to find out what you want out of life."
He smiled "You may find I'm not right for you."

Their heads snapped up at this "Lord Tenchi ....!" "Tenchi....!"

He waved them off "At least find out okay?" They hesitated
for a moment before they slowly nodded.

The others had joined the first two to form a semi-circle around
the young prince. All except for Washu-chan, She stood with his
father and grandpa closer to the lake, and Mayuka was in her arms.
Tenchi said his good byes then approached the rest, as the others
remained behind.

His father hugged him "Now you be careful, and don't forget to
write." He smiled "I will dad."

Yosho shook his hand before pulling him into a hug "No matter what
happens remember, I am proud of you." Tenchi nodded, unable to speak.

He turned to Washu-chan and his daughter. Mayuka giggled as
he caressed her cheek. "Now you be good for Auntie Washu okay. "
The babe mealy smiled, which Tenchi reciprocated "I love you to
Mayuka."

He looked up at the greatest mad scientist in the universe, and
gave her a quick hug. "Thank you for everything Washu-chan."

Instead of answering she smiled and kissed him on the cheek.
At the same time he felt something being pressed into his hand.
Looking down he saw it was a small data pad. He gave her a
questioning look.

"It contains some information on the various cultures your likely to
run into. It also has all the data I gained on Jurai and the power
of Tsunami. I hope it provides some insight to your other talents"
Tenchi was speechless for a moment. Finally he kissed her on the
cheek. She blinked as if stung.

"Thank you."

With out further ado he boarded the ship.

*****
The beeping of the ships comm brought Tenchi out of his reverie.
He walked over and flipped it on. "Tenchi here. What is it?" The
calm voice that came over the comm was that of the ships captain.
"Just wanted you to know we will be reverting to real space in 45
minutes. I thought it would be a good idea for you to be on the
bridge." Tenchi thought it over for a second. "I'll be up there in
30 minutes." "Very good sir." The comm clicked off. Tenchi took
a deep breathe, 'And so the next chapter in my life is about to
begin' Grabbing his towel Tenchi headed for the shower.

Notes:
Okay I got a lot of people commenting on how much more interesting
this would be if Tenchi remained a living generator of Juraian
energy and after some thought I agreed. As for Tenchi-ken, it
did accept Tenchi as its wielder so I guess he is stuck with it.
Any comments, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
