Sorry, about that. I think it will work this time.

The Trials Never Ends
Near the remains of Tokyo-3 there was a series of sounds.
"Skip skip skip skip skip skip kersplash!" In better
days no on would have thought much of these sounds. "Skip
skip skip skip skip skip kersplash!" But considering
that life on this planet didn't exist anymore the
sound could be considered odd. "Skip skip skip skip
kersplash!"
Nearing the beach we finally see the cause of the noise.
There sitting near the edge of LCL ocean is what appears to
be a boy of ten years. A scowl mars his cherubic features as
he lifts another rock and tosses it across the LCL "Skip
skip skip skip skip skip skip kersplash!" The boy looks at
the world around him and his scowl deepens. He picks up
another rock, when a hand is placed on his shoulder.
"Quinn, what's wrong?"
Quinn sighs as the older being sits down next to him "Dad I failed
them."
The sadness is evident in the child's voice,
so much so that the man puts a comforting arm around
his shoulder.
"I shouldn't have made the test so hard,
or at least provided more help!"
The man pulled his son close to him as the boy seemed close
to tears. "Son, you knew this was a possibility. The point of
these tests is to see if a species is worthy of continued existence,
this one was not."
The boy shakes his head "But what if they were worthy." The father
looked his son in the eyes "You gave them many chances and many
warnings. Still, they always assumed violence was the solution. You
even forced them to use kids in the Evas and even so they used them
to fight." Quinn considered this, the man went on "They
never even stopped fighting even amongst themselves in the face of
total annihilation!" The older man took a deep breath as his words
sank into his son's head.
His son seemed to waver a bit so the father continued.
"You also gave the final choice to one of their own. Admittedly
he was not the best, but the Continuum has used far worse beings
to decide the fate of a people. You even showed Shinji what his
world could've been like, you made him understand the truth of
his motivations and that of others. In the end he decided that
his race was unworthy of continued existence. For in that
moment of decision he knew the evil they could wreck across
the universe."
The boy nodded agreeing with his father only
half-heartedly "That still does not make me feel better."
The older man hugged the boy to him "That is way the hopes for
the continuum's existence lie in you, you have something we Q
often lack, compassion."
The boy remained silent
"Say, why don't we go visit my old friend?"
Quinn perked up a bit at this "You mean Picard?" The older man
smiled warmly as he helped the boy to his feet
"Yes! I'm quite sure he would be thrilled to meet the son of his
old friend Q. So what do you say?"
The boy mulled it over then smiled a bit "Okay." With a
smile and a wave of the hand the two disappeared from the world
in a flash of light.
